SEATTLE -- Our friend and colleague Kathi Goertzen made her first public appearance Tuesday as she continues to recover from her latest surgery to fight brain tumors.

She paired with Dan Lewis to speak at the YWCA luncheon. It's the 24th year of the luncheon and Kathi has spoken at all of them.

Kathi is doing well, tough as ever, said KOMO-TV News Director Holly Gauntt.

"Her voice is very weak -- it's only been 6 weeks since the surgery, and she has to walk with a cane because she is still having some balance problems," Gauntt said. "In typical Kathi fashion though, with a quiet voice, she made everyone laugh with a couple jokes."

Kathi has had several surgeries over the past 10 years to fight non-cancerous tumors that have developed in her brain. You can follow her progress on her Facebook page.
