Kitsap County: Man rescued after canoe overturns

SILVERDALE, Wash. (AP) - Firefighters have rescued a man who grabbed a canoe and set out to retrieve a buoy that had broken off his boat, only to have his canoe overturn in Dyes Inlet near Silverdale, Washington. That's where he found himself drifting into the middle of the channel.

Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue spokeswoman Ileana LiMarzi says the man was able to yell for help and someone on shore called 911 Tuesday afternoon.

A rescue crew found the man clinging to the top of the submerged canoe. They pulled him on board their boat and towed his canoe back to his waterfront house. He was unhurt.

LiMarzi says the man was not wearing a life jacket. He was not identified.

Silverdale is west of Seattle.
