Kitsap County employee accused of gun running

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. -- A Kitsap County employee accused of dealing stolen guns remains in jail, but investigators say the case is far from over.
Trevor Hulley was arrested last week after police found an assortment of firearms in his Port Orchard home. Hulley, the lead mechanic for the Kitsap County Department of Public Works, allegedly had a collection of pistols, hunting rifles and rare handguns in his bedroom.
Detectives believe Hulley was operating a gun-running operation that sent thousands of firearms out of state. Hulley can't legally own any guns because he violated a domestic violence protection order three years ago.
Investigators say Hulley bragged to a co-worker that he had picked up $50,000 worth of guns and pocketed $20,000 from the transaction.
Police caught on to his alleged gun-running business after he reported his truck stolen from the county road shed. When deputies found the truck, they also found a handgun under the seat and began asking questions.
Detectives seized ammunition, methamphetamine and more than 20 firearms from Hulley's home. At least three of the guns were stolen from the Port Angeles area, and some may have come from other countries.
"He flew under the radar. Nobody from a law enforcement perspective really knew what was going on, but the people that he worked with certainly did," said Kitsap County Sheriff's deputy Scott Wilson.
While on the clock, deputies say Hulley showed off the guns to co-workers, but they believe he was the only county employee involved in the business.
The investigation is still underway, and detectives say they aren't sure who Hulley was shipping the guns to.
"Are they being transported for private sale to sportsmen for those purposes, or are they going to be used for some type of nefarious criminal activity? That's always the major concern," Wilson said.
The county's public works director said Hulley has worked for the department for 13 years. He's now on paid administrative leave and the department is doing its own internal investigation.

Check into the corrupt Kitsap County Sheriff's Office. They stole 12 vintage firearms from me and got away with it. They are probibly part of this gun running ring. I have the Sheriff's paperwork to show they stole the guns, but the FBI/BATF refused to investigate becasue they are fello cops. The corruption in Kitsap County runs all the way through the Sheriff's Office, Prosecutors Office and all the way to the court system and judges. (I have the evidence!)
Welcome to Kitsap County! We hope you enjoy your stay in this picturesque northwest landscape!
So the tax payers are still paying him. Great.
Administrative leave is becoming a joke. People getting paid for sitting around when they should be fired on the spot.
@jcman I believe in innocent until proven guilty, but they should pay back every cent of that money if they are found guilty. With interest.
All I can say is wow. This guy is/was my parent's neighbor. I met him on several occasions and never would have thought for a second he was doing anything illegal, especially meth.  My parents are just as shocked and always said what a good guy he was. I guess you just never know about people.Â
As a Kitsap county citizen, I have a few questions for KCSO:- The gun running is the LEAST of my concerns. But why did his coworkers remain quiet?  - The tweaker crap really concerns me. Did his job require him to drive on county roads?- Did his coworkers remain silent because they are involved with the meth side?
I cannot believe with all that is going on these days with regards to guns , that those that knew about this, someone did not step forward, Â Shame on them.
I wonder what is going to happen to the coworkers that knew about it and chose not to report it. At a minimum, they should be fired.
What they are showing is a modern reproduction of a âcap & ballâ rifle, dissembled for some reason, Next is a modern sporting rifle, likely bolt action, that does not use a detachable magazine. In the background I see a âcap & ballâ pistol. Both of the âcap & ballâ guns are muzzle loading, single shot, black powder guns of the type used during the Civil War. While the picture of the pistol is not very clear, neither of the rifles are worth much. There is either a whole lot to this story that has not been reported or the story has been blown way out of proportion. Stolen is stolen, regardless of the value so some crime has been committed.Â
@oldster70 Watch the video and you will get a better look at a few of the more modern guns that were seized.Â
Yeah, the 'duckfoot' is a cheap repro from Dixie Gun Works and the muzzle loader looks like a Thompson Center. Niether is 'rare', but go ahead and sensationalize it, KOMO. If this dolt had meth in his possession it should have been a slam dunk along with everything else, and he shouldn't be on paid leave.Â
And a meth-head...... yep, pretty much sums it up.
Hey, come on he is just trying to please the NRA in getting as many illegal gun out there as they can!
@nunof uors Or just trying to keep up with the department of justice.
more than 20 firearms... lets see,... shouldn't he be charged for possession of each one of those.. and it should be served consecutively.. After that, we should look at the possession of a stolen firearm... tack on a few more years... This guy should never see the light of day again...Â
Just goes to show you, laws only affect the law abiding. Criminals will find ways to ply their trades no matter the restriction. The more restrictions on lawful gun ownership, the more criminals will have business to keep them around. It's been shown time and time again; prohibition breeds crime.
@dg54321 when the Rep. in the congress cut the balls off the ATF how can any law be up held, the ATF cant even keep track of any gun crimes by laws passed in congress.
@nunof uors, Unfortunately, the ATF has been salted with active anti-gun proponents. Granted, there need to be some revisions to current law, but you can't give the ATF a free hand either. That's how we wound up with 'Fast and Furious', which was inappropriately used to enact stiff reporting requirements on the border.
@SargeMcC  @nunof Giving the ATF power is how we ended up with Waco and Ruby Ridge as well. I'd rather keep the ATF in check, thanks, before we have any more "heroes" shooting women and children.
@dg54321 You said,"...prohibition breeds crime."  Oh yeah, this country learned that the hard way via the Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution, which later had to be repealed.  That one attempt by people, with good intentions, pretty much created the modern Mafia and a WHOLE LOT OF CRIME.  Sometimes I wonder why people do not think of the consequences of their political goals.  I really wish the schools would do a better job of teaching history.
@K. Coleman You think they teach history the way they do on accident? If we taught the children all the lessons they should learn from history even they are smart enough to stop and ask, "So why isn't our government smart enough to learn from the failures of others in history?" Revisionist history........it's rampant in our educational system.
@dg54321 Sorry, you are right, opposing forces do FIGHT to change the contents of the textbooks.  It's a continuing battle.  Sometimes in my attempt at brevity, or to be polite I avoid an additional fact or two.  In this case, I am truly sorry as it gave a free pass to those with a political agenda.
He can't own any guns because he violated a domestic protection order? To hell with the guns, why was he even still an employee of the county?? The lead mechanic of public works and he has a criminal record. Nice. Where was KOMO on this before he started running guns and using meth? Why was he not exposed as a high up public works employee with a record before this? It's like the news is saying it's ok for the county to employ criminals, unless they get caught with a gun.
@jimbob Would you prefer EVERYONE with a criminal history be banned from getting a job and becoming a productive member of society paying taxes?  Or would you rather keep them desperate homeless and without hope?  Okay, he BLEW his second chance in life, but I wonder how many other ex-felons go on to leave productive lives (if given the chance).
He is probably just one of thousands.
I don't think you could get much "nefarious criminal activity" done with muzzle loaded weapons....."NOBODY MOVE WHILE I RELOAD THIS THING!!!!!"
Â
Other peoples underwear in a bunch in 4, 3, 2, 1.....
@Lee Erickson it is the ones above the muzzle loader... wonder what caliber it is... It looks to be in fairly decent shape.. (can't see the bore)Â but they are fun to shoot.. can be reloaded inless than a minute, if using premeasured charges.. If someone uses a steel ball, it would go through a few things... You can use a patch on quite a few things..LOL
Wow. Paid admin Leave! Â That is so much BS. Â 1/2 of Wash State is out of work and this fool on drugs and Paid Leave.
paid leave? and had meth and theres no drug testing for city employees thats bs start testing these idiots so us clean folks can have there jobs.
Time to start drug testing all employees sucking off the tax payers tit. Â I'm so sick of these stories of corrupt government employees. Â
Let's go easy on the guy, he's only trying to help people defend themselves against a totalitarian oppressive government..
gun runner now on paid vacation.
OMG! GUNS! PANIC! HYSTERIA!
@Glassman what part of criminal gun trafficking don't you get? This kind of crime OK because it's guns? You a straw buyer? Crime ok because it's guns?
if we can call illegal aliens undocumented workers lets call him a collector and give him that well desrved benifits.. Can't have it both ways..
@Linc239 I'm with you. These guns have done nothing wrong...why are we calling them "Illegal"?...It seems unfair to them, since they had no choice in the decision to be sold illegally....I would prefer to call them "undocumented tools of self defense".
@tufa23 No, but the hysteria brought on because the subject is GUNS is the whole point of the article. There's a myriad of other equally horrible crimes going on, like corruption in Olympia, sinking bridge pontoons, rampant drug dealing and drunk driving that also deserve our righteous indignation, but GUNS are the current buzzword guaranteed to get people seething.Â
There is nothing in the article about a death count because of these, but is anyone upset enough about the probable death count from a floating bridge disaster? Where's the pitchforks and firebrands over drunk drivers? Is there rioting in the streets because of homeless deaths? Why isn't there SOMETHING being done about our troops committing suicide?
But mention GUNS and everyone gets hysterical.
@dg54321  @tufa23  @SargeMcC  @DrugFighter Go easy on tufa, he doesn't have any rational argument so vilifying is all he has left. But then again, thats where a lot of anti-gunners start, run, and end.
@tufa23  @SargeMcC  @DrugFighter The only people I see vilifying themselves are the anti gun crowd who can't make a statement without turning to insults, personal attacks, comments about "manhood" and other childish things that I thought I left behind in grade school.
@SargeMcC  @DrugFighter gun owners are doing a fine job of vilifying themselves.Â
@DrugFighter You can't deny that the media is continuously trying to vilify guns.
@Glassman  @tufa23 So... because of all those other horrible things going on you propose we just let this particular issue slide?
Â
 @JK15  @Glassman  @tufa23 Well said, JK!
@Glassman  @tufa23 The topic of guns is a two way street. You have the people who get "hysterical" any time there is a story about guns. On the other hand, there are the guys like you who see a story related to guns and automatically go into you typical pro gun rant.
Â
If the only thing you get out of a story; in which a county employee, who is on paid leave while in jail for illegally possessing a firearm, dealing firearms, and possessing meth. Is that someone is trying to vilify guns, than you are looking for something that's not there.
After due course this indvidual is a danger to society and should be terminated forth with.Â
@George ... with a pitchfork??Â
I indirectly worked with him for the past four summers at Public Works. Â He was always a really cool guy at work, but we all knew there was something awkward about him. Â Turns out we know what now.
That's a pretty wide range of hardware. Looks like a 454 Cassul, a Hawken-type muzzle-loader, some WWII vintage bolt guns, old lever-actions, various used and new modern shooting irons, and even a "duck-foot" three-barrel pistol (VERY old - possibly quite collectable depending on condition and details).
And, of course, he's a government employee. That *should* make him do double-time, but sadly, it'll likely cut years OFF his sentence.
@RN1 Hey! I didn't know we got special treatment for Gun Running. Is that in the contract or just County policy? :)
Â
Can't believe a guy would throw away a golden gig such as his for essentially pocket change. Like when they caught that Metro driver on the #48 dealing drugs.
Â
What a maroon...
