Lake Stevens police nab suspected serial coffee stand robber
LAKE STEVENS, Wash. -- Lake Stevens police believe they've nabbed a serial robber who's targeted coffee stands in Lake Stevens, Snohomish and Everett.
Officers responded to Frontier Village Coffee Wednesday at 10:19 a.m. after a barista was robbed at knife point. The barista, a 26-year-old woman, told officers a knife-wielding man walked up to the stand and demanded money. The woman handed over the cash and called 911 as the man ran away.
Police deployed a K-9 unit to track the robber, but just as the dog was beginning its track, police got a second 911 call about another coffee stand robbery.
In that case, a barista working in the Tom Thumb area said a man with a knife approached the stand and demanded money and the barista's cell phone.
Based on descriptions from both baristas, police came to the conclusion that one man was behind both robberies.
Later that day, officers stopped a green Chevy truck and found a man who matched the description of the robber hiding in the back seat. The man was positively identified by both baristas and was arrested.
Police believe the man is responsible for a host of similar robberies throughout the region.
