Lynnwood officer hurt in fall during arrest of fugitive
LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- A 28-year-old Lynnwood police officer was seriously injured Sunday evening in a fall during an attempt to arrest a fugitive.
Officers were running after the 29-year-old man around 5:15 p.m. and the chase crossed 196th Ave. SW and on to the Reclinerland store property, Lynnwood police said.
Officer Ryan Hoirup caught up with the man and tried to arrest him, but a struggle ensued and both men went over an 18-foot embankment down Golde Creek.
Hoirup was injured, unable to move after the fall and the Lynnwood Fire Department was called to pull Hoirup out of the ravine. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he was listed in serious condition.
The fugitive broke his wrist, but was able to get up and run away, only to be captured by other officers a short time later. He's been booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of 2nd degree assault and to face his outstanding warrants.
Lynnwood police say Hoirup is a five year veteran of their department and his married with a new baby.

So, why, may I ask is this officer's name being broadcast, but not the bad guy??? I think people should know so they can look up his booking photo and know what a local criminal looks likes....
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.  You, and every one on the Lynnwood Police force, are our Heroes.  Next time, please do us taxpayers a huge favor and take out the worthless maggot with a well-aimed shot.  We promise to look the other way, and thank you PROFUSELY later.
Next time just shot the scum rather than take the fall.... Speedy recovery, and Thank you for all the years of service.
Please help us raise money for this officer! He is a new father a loyal husband and a great friend! http://www.youcaring.com/fundraiser_details?fundraiser_id=8369&url=raisingmoneyforahero
@m517719 Scam maybe?  Why raise money when he was hurt on the job and it should all be covered
Â
@Whocares not a scam...
@m517719 Nope. Part of his job. He gets a paycheck, and just because he gets hurt on the job does not make him a hero. It makes him someone who is doing his job.
Wishing the best to the officer; speedy recovery, sir. Thank you for your service.
Prayers for full and speedy recovery of the officer.
This cop is a hero. Â I hope he fully recovers.
And Seattle activisits and Komo would accuse the police of not being adequately polite to the suspect.

I think the problem is when there is all out police brutality - let's not forget a Seattle policeman socked a black 17yo girl for jay walking a few years back and another tased a 70 yo woman for being at an occupy movement less than 1 year ago. The murderer of the wood carver can be added to that list, but then there have been many many cases where police violence in this area have led to unnecessary death (I'm thinking of Everett's finest and the guy trying to get into his house that they riddled with dozens of bullets.)
Â
Best wishes to this officer for a speedy recovery.
@super No, the officer did not sock the girl for jaywalking.  You should do a little fact checking.  The girl that got punched was not the jaywalker, she was assaulting the police officer who was trying to arrest her friend.  That isn't brutality, that is the consequence of being stupid, on the girls part.
