Man charged in pellet gun shooting of 4-year-old stepdaughter

EVERETT, Wash. - A Lynnwood man accused of repeatedly shooting his 4-year-old stepdaughter with an Airsoft pellet gun was charged Thursday with second-degree assault.
Documents filed in Snohomish County Superior Court say the pain inflicted on the girl was "the equivalent of that produced by torture."
The suspect, Stetson G. Tedder, 26, of Lynnwood was booked into the Snohomish County jail last week. He was released Saturday after posting $25,000 bail.
Court documents say Tedder bound the girl with zip ties and duct tape, then shot her at least three-dozen times with plastic pellets until her skin looked like chicken pox.
The case came to light when the little girl's grandmother noticed red dots all over her body and asked the girl what had happened.
The girl told her grandmother that Tedder had hog-tied her and shot her with a pellet gun, and that she had cried from the pain, court documents say.
The grandmother took the little girl to Providence Hospital in Everett, where she was examined. Her grandmother and hospital staff counted more than 36 marks on the little girl's body.
The girl told detectives that Tedder became angry when she woke him up early, so he shot her with the pellet gun, according to documents filed in Snohomish County Superior Court.
On another occasion, the girl said, Tedder tied her up after her room was messy and made her pick up her room with her teeth, court documents say.
Court records also say Tedder admitted to detectives that he used duct tape to hog-tie the little girl as a form of punishment for up to 30 minutes.
The girl told police that her mom left the house when Tedder was shooting at her with the gun because "she doesn't want to hear her cry," court documents say.
The girl has since been taken into protective custody. Snohomish County sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton said the 4-year old might not be the only victim in the case.

This sorry SOB is in the Air Force?!?!?! I hope he goes to Leavenworth!!!! There is a very special place in hell for him and the female dog that had this precious little girl!
@Samantha Bigelow - that's an insult to the female dog!  Seriously, the female dog would have went after this dude.
I've heard these stories many times, a stepfather or stepmother hurting their stepkids. The Brady Bunch family in TV is not real people!!!. Single parents and divorce parents with kids please think twice before re-marrying especially if the other person also have children. Majority of the time it does not work. Please your priority should be the children,
I am so sorry for the little girl that this happened.  Children are small and so weak in comparison to an adult. They have no way to defend themselves. Shame on this so-called man. This is devious behavior and shows how sick the guy really is. I hope he serves time for it. Grandma did the right thing and is a hero.
Oh, mama you get an F for not having the guts to pack up and leave him. I don't understand why women do this to themselves and their kids.
Name the mom, she is just as guilty.
Really!!! And I mean Really!!! Talk about parent of the year award for these two. What kind of person do you have to be to tie up your 4 year old daughter and shoot her with an airsoft (or any type of gun for that matter) gun. I could never envision shooting my son with any gun period. Ok maybe when he is older I could see us using squirt guns in the summer or in his teen years if I take him paintballing. But even then I would have a problem shooting anything I know as even slightly painful at him.
Hey anyone got an address for this guy? And, no, I'm not kidding.Â
I can't imagine the mother either.
I would do anything to protect my kids. Literally over my dead body. I think of lot of mothers and fathers out there feel this way to right to the core. I think if a parent doesn't feel that way they are defective.
@Mom33 You're the kind of parent everyone should be.
Â
My kids are my life, my soul and the source of my happiness. Â I grew up in foster homes that dealt with similar crap as this story and you are proof that not all parents are like this idiot the story is about.
Â
Kudos miss.
@TJM  @Mom33 Kudos to both of you! :)
And we still know nothing about what's going on with the mother!
@Zoso She needs to be charged as well.
You want to curb gun crime? This is where you need to start. People like this are mentally broken. I'm sure we could argue and argue about the reasons but it would be pointless. The fact of the matter is that there is something wrong with him and he will most likely be in the news again for doing something else. Send him to prison, make sure it's known that he tortured a little girls, and let prison life take it's course.
Disgusting
Â
Cowardly
Â
Maggot
I say hang him high.
2nd degree assault is the only charge? No unlawful imprisonment for hog tying the girl up? No charges for the idiot mother?Â
Â
Lovely!Â
@lakeview and what is with the WAY LOW bail? Seahawk Leroy Hill on his charge was 150k, this guy gets 25k to get out after doing this to a child? who was the Judge that set bail so low? Jesus this country is going south, in a hurry.
what a pig, hope he gets hogtied in jail... let the games begin
Were the other children in the home also taken into protective custody? Because you know that since this POS posted bail he's going to go back home to his loving and adoring wife (who couldn't care less about her children).
This guy is the biggest piece of poop! I just don't get how people think it's all right to do this to their children.Â
very creepy
If my grandmother was able to get on a train in 1946 in NYC with her 3 kids (my mother and 2 uncles. My mother was 3) and leave her abusive husband, I see no reason why this "mother" left her child with this monster while he abused her. In the 1940s there were no resources to help a mother escape from an abuser, yet my grandmother left and worked and supported her children.  This woman should be charged too. I understand if he threatened her, but please go seek help. Leave. Get a restraining order. Change your name. Do something!  And people wonder why we cheer for women like Francine Hughes. I hope this baby girl find a loving family who will appreciate her.Â
@Northend Hooray for your grandmother!  And you're right, in a time when there wasn't much help for this kind of thing.  Some women get 'beat down' though and it is hard for them and then there are the threats and outright violence that keeps them that way.  I have known mothers though in that bad mental state that still threw their bodies over the children at least.  Walking away.... not really.  Mothers stay in some really bad crap sometimes...
The mom should be charged with neglect! What kind of parent allows the "friend" to do those things to their children?
@RTNavy That is the mother's husband.
A public flogging is what this guy needs.
Don't forget to shot him 36 times with a pellet gun too.
@mstipton But don't use an Airsoft on him! CO2 cartridge with .177 cal. pellets should do good.
@4ShotLatte @mstipton Nope. I say frozen paintballs should do the trick.
This guy wont make it out of prison once the "torture" word gets out to other inmates especially when it involves a 4 year old little girl.... Sickening
And the mother hasn't been charged?????????????
I can think of some mothers in the animal kingdom that this guy would have been shredded limb from limb. I suspect there were/are more incidents like this one playing out in that household daily. With domestic abuse victims, it becomes a cycle and the events wear the person down mentally, physically, spiritually - and there are probably threats against their lives. I'm glad this little child is out of their reach. Glad for the grandmother too, that she is a tigress in her own right. I hope these people never get this child back.
@Elaine2 I am one of those mothers (from the animal kingdom) that would shred anyone who placed their hands on my children.
How on earth could a mother allow something like that to happen to their child?!?!?! I blame her just as much as him if not more. Hopefully this child will now be raised in a loving protective household
He's going to get his butt whipped in jail.
Or worse.
"Snohomish County sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton said the 4-year old might not be the only victim in the case."
Sounds like he's been busy. Time to make an example.

Â
This POS is out on Bail? Commenters please pass along info on his whereabouts. I don't see a court date listed and if he were in my community I'd sure like to know. Could be another nut case like this guy. Â http://www.cnn.com/2013/02/01/us/alabama-child-hostage/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Â
He is a disgusting evil horrible person. Who in the hell would do that to a child? Oh my God!!! And as far as the so called mother.... what in the hell was she thinking allowing this type of person around her child???? Both of them are responsible for this abuse in my opinion.
As a mother myself this makes me sick. Â She is supposed to do everything in her power to protect her child. Â Maybe they should hog tie her and shoot her with the pellets. She doesnt deserve to ever get her child back.
It's a sad day when a mother will turn a blind eye...or in this case leave the house....to the abuse of her child, her flesh and blood, just so she won't  lose the "love" of a creep like this. He should be punished but the fact is they both need help. If they don't get it these things will surely happen again.Â
Guess the mother just gets a free pass. Figures we are in washington
I read on one of the other comment sections of this same story there were friends and/or family that were defending this POS. I can't imagine what there idea of a responsible parent is but, it's obvious by his actions they have the same parenting style and this piece of poo thinks it's normal and acceptible. The ones defending him need some mental help right along with this sick individual. This guys is flat out disturbed.
Again KOMO an airsoft gun is not a pellet gun. That being said this guys is one sick dude and should never be around kids again.
Unfortunately I can not express my disgust for this POS and even more so her mother because more than likely my post will be deleted!!!
good.. he should be.. Hopefully, he will get to spend some time with people who like those that torture children.., now, What about the mother who left instead of protecting her children? What can she be charged with?Â
