SEATTLE -- A man found moaning on the ground early Saturday in Wallingford claims he was attacked by a hatchet-wielding stranger, according to the Seattle Police Department.
According to the police report for the incident, a number of residents in the 3800 block of Ashworth Avenue North made 911 calls around 3:15 a.m.
The first caller reported two men had come out from behind a house and were fighting. The caller said one of the men walked off with a limp and holding something shiny, possibly a knife.
Another caller said a man was sitting on their porch and screaming. The final caller reported someone had rang their doorbell and was moaning outside.
Officers arrived to find the victim on the ground, sweating profusely and breathing hard.
According to the report, the victim had difficulty speaking but told officers he was running away from a man who had hit him in the back with a hatchet.
The victim said he didn't know his attacker and had no idea why he was assaulted.
According to the report, the victim's padded motorcycle jacket appeared to take the brunt of the hatchet blow, and he was taken to the hospital despite a lack of visible injuries.
