Man suffers fatal cardiac arrest after boats collide in Puget Sound
SEATTLE -- A 76-year-old man has died after being pulled from Puget Sound following a boat collision in Puget Sound Friday afternoon.
Investigators said a small aluminum boat and a yacht collided approximately one mile off shore around 4:30 p.m., causing the smaller vessel carrying two passengers to overturn.
The crew aboard yacht, with the help of Suquamish police who happened to be nearby, pulled the two men out of the water. They began performing CPR on one of the men, who had apparently suffered sudden cardiac arrest and lost consciousness.
The man was pronounced dead minutes later.
The second victim, a man in his 70s, was alert and conscious. He was taken to an area hospital as a precaution once the yacht docked at Shilshole Bay Marina.
The Seattle-based yacht is named Shelmar. No other information about the vessel was immediately available.
A drug recognition expert evaluated the man who was driving the larger boat and didn't find any signs of impairment, according to police.
Police are still trying to determine what caused the crash.

You just KNOW the guy who ran the boat over was driving a Bayliner too.
Obviously nobody on the larger boat was at the helm. Pretty hard to prove that though. Maybe a conscience?
@Klondiko Rules of the Road Rule 5- Every vessel shall at all times maintain a proper look-out by sight and hearings well as by all available means appropriate in prevailing circumstances and conditions so as to make a full appraisal of the situation and of risk of collision. If the man aboard the yacht had any knowledge of the rules regarding right of way and keeping a propper lookout, this all could have been avoided.
So sorry for the loss of life. It would appear someone in the small boat or the yacht was not paying attention......preventable accident, likely. RIP.
terrible ....

totally clear day, great visability. i'm guessing the small aluminum boat didn't "collide" with the big ol' yacht. someone was likely relying on their gadgets and not their eyes.
@SwampThing Thinking the same thing here. Can't blame lack of visibility for this one.
strange.... It was an extremely beautiful day... Why or how did this happen?
That is horrible. Condolences to the victims friends and family.
