Man dies after being stunned at Spokane Co. jail
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Officials are investigating the death of a man at the Spokane County Jail.
The sheriff's office says the man died Sunday morning after deputies used a Taser and a restraint chair to gain control of him. He lost consciousness after being placed in the chair, and the sheriff's office says deputies and emergency medical staff immediately began CPR. The man did not regain consciousness.
It happened in the booking area of the jail. No further information about the man was released.
A regional law enforcement team managed by the Washington State Patrol is investigating.

Cops use tasers because they are safer than fighting with someone. If you are under arrest and don't fight with cops then you have nothing to worry about. The fact is, this guy (as many other) most likely died from a condition called "Excited Delirium". It is a condition where a person is high on stimulants or maybe has a psychotic/hypomonia episode. When he is contacted by the police for odd or illegal behavior and arrested, the person goes into excited delirium.
Check out these links if you want to educate yourself before spouting off, especially you, pete1427:

People have had episodes of excited delirium after a physcal fight, getting pepper sprayed or being tased. The common variable is most often drug use.Â
Don't do drugs, don't fight with the cops and you have nothing to worry about.
BTW, it usually takes 2, 3 or 4 cops to arrest a combative person because it's a lot safer that way, not because the cops can't handle themselves.Â
@jlynnhood"If you are under arrest and don't fight with cops then you have nothing to worry about."  not necessarily true. I received no warning whatsoever when police tasered me. the excuse given was that I didn't spread my legs far enough, even though I was fully compliant with them.Â
"it usually takes 2, 3 or 4 cops to arrest a combative person because it's a lot safer that way, not because the cops can't handle themselves." unfortunately, it ALWAYS takes more than a few cops to make an arrest, because they want to invoke fear and intimidation.
More than likely another doper who died from self administered drugs. Of course it will be the âTaserâ. The moron died of his own stupidity if he chose to take a bunch of dope.
Tragic. What's for dessert, Honey?
Some of you that think your experts should bother to do your patriotic duty and sit on some of these juries once in a while. You might learn a little something. Would like to see more info. They had him in a restraint chair and still tazed him?Â
Where does it say he was tased after being put in the chair? He was unccoperative, the deputies used force, including the Taser, then after gaining control,  restrained him in the chair. No where and at no other site are they saying they tazed him while he was restrained in the chair.Â
@FunkyDWÂ The articles don't say in which order it was done.
Guys like that usually die because of the drugs in their system that are making them combative, along with a deadly lifestyle. Best way to avoid that, is to stay out of jail.Â
Maybe a better headline would be "Uncooperative Meth User dies in Spokane Co Jail". It wasn't the Taser that killed him, it was his choice of lifestyle and drug use.
No, KOMO doesn't have this information. Try KXLY in Spokane for more information.
@FunkyDW You are clearly unaware of KOMO's anti LE bias and unabashed pandering to the bleeding hearts infesting their market audience.
@HawkEye  @FunkyDW Maybe you should save some of that pitchfork for the AP since it's their story.
@HawkEye If the story is by the AP, then the headline would obviously be by them as well. That's like saying a publishing company gave an author's book their own title even though they didn't write the book. It's alright, tough stuff to understand.
@Zoso If the story was the problem.... The biased slant of the headline was the topic. It's alright, tough stuff to understand.
Time to end the use of stun guns. Jails have the legal obligation to make sure no one gets hurt while in their custody, obviously they failed. These stun guns are a health hazard for anyone with lung or heart problems. And the tax payers end up having to pickup the costs. Now his family will sue and they will win and then we get stuck with the bill.
@Blindman You are absolutely correct. We need to take Tazers away and go back to billy-clubs and guns so that all prisoners will be safe going forward. Yep, it sounds that stupid no matter who is saying it.
@Blindman What should they do to control unruly people then, ask them nicely to calm down?
@Blindman I feel stun guns actually save lives. If you have heart or lung problems it is probably a good idea to do what you are told to do. After all, stun guns were developed to use in place of a more lethal weapon to subdue an out of control person.
@Blindman People with heart problems should not take up the life of crime!
@steve340 I didnt see where he had taken up a life of crime, where was that info?Â
@T_BONE_WALKERÂ @steve340Â Everyone just assumes that people are guilty if they are being arrested. Evidently they don't bother to take the time and do their patriotic duty and sit on a jury once in a while otherwise they would see what really happens.
@steve340Â @Blindman An individual can be in perfect health and still die
as a result of the use of a tazer. The problem is that the path of the current
flow is random and unpredictable and can interrupt the normal auto-nervousÂ
system's instructions to the body. The pulses from our nervous system areÂ
of a minute voltage in comparison to a 50KV+ signal that is generated by theÂ
police device and that device can cause the heart in even the most healthyÂ
individual to stop beating .Â
When the unpredictable current path causes damage to the nerves for theÂ
heart, the end results can be every bit as fatal as if the individual wasÂ
strapped in an electric chair like California used to carry out theirÂ
death sentencing . The actual cause of death is virtually the same.
@K00lGuy @pete1427  There are numerous deathÂ
certificates signed by coroners, pathologist, and doctorsÂ
that state that being tazered was the cause of death.
If one actually researched the issue on line one would beÂ
surprised at just how many lives are lost because ofÂ
misuse of tazer type devices.
@pete1427 @Blindman @K00lGuy at least you took this from the most liberal appeals court in the nation. The taser is less than force then pepper spray. A taser has an mustang affect and ends instantly. Pepper spray has an instant affect and continues upwards on an hour. That is far more extreme than a taser. If it prevents a cop from being hurt I am all for it.
@Blindman @K00lGuy @pete1427 it fails to prove the taser was the sole cause.
@Pahana Tasers were developed in the late 60s, early 70s. So before its creation, how did police subdue criminals then? The point I'm making is that tasers have nothing to do with minimizing death to the so called criminal. They were developed and used to minimize injury to officers.Â
@Pahana judge judy has spoken! All Hail!!
@pete1427 These facts in mind, criminals should not resist arrest and should cooperate with officers to the best of their ability.
@Blindman@K00lGuy@pete1427a federal court has ruled (PDF) that the pain inflicted by the taser gun constitutes excessive force by law enforcement. The courts donât want police to electrocute people with their tasers unless they pose an immediate threat.

@K00lGuy @pete1427 Here's 2 of them right here in Washington.

Tazing someone is just simply another form of torture. But its legal when the government does it.
@pete1427Â I agree. Its the same thing with having irresponsible officers with firearms, some just use them for the fun of it. If these officers are so poorly trained that 2 or 3 of them can't subdue a prisoner then its time for them to look for a new career.
@pete1427 Can you provide any evidence that a taser as killed anyone? People who have had a taser used on them and some other issue going on.
@Pahana There are several examples on U-Tube, and other
video sources that show that the police sometimes taze individuals
just for S__ts and giggles, or to state it clearer, simply because
they can. The use of the device has caused numerous deaths
and injuries and its use should restricted . Improper justification
for the use of tazers have cost the public millions when law suits
prove that the use of the device was not called for at all.
@Pahana It didnt say he had chosen to act violently, where did you see that part. I saw where they were trying to get control of him though. I saw last week where they killed a guy having a diabetic attack while trying to get control of him.
@pete1427 The point being that if you're choosing to act violently, the consequences of justified force used against you is entirely your fault. They use tasers instead of firearms in situations like these because they would prefer to minimize the likelihood of death and injury to everyone around including the person causing the situation.
Wait.......nobody has said it yet?
Ban Tasers!!!!!!!!!!! Haaaaaaaaaa!
@2ndstartothenorth SIGH....LOL

@burmesepythondude not really. he could have said something like WTF? or not complied to what the guard asked of him fast enough. I support LEO's But sometimes things go wrong real fast. Like that woman in Florida arrested after calling 911 for being beat up she went to jail she was then hand cuffed he clothes ripped off her in jail on cammera as the male gaurds raped her. inocent person maybe this guy was inocent too and was resisting unlawful detainment?
"maybe this guy was inocent too and was resisting unlawful detainment?"Â Not likely
@burmesepythondude What if the man's actions were due to a medical condition?
Ingesting meth isn't a medical condition.
@BuddyHolly Good point.Â
Just goes to show that some people would rather die than cooperate.
@SoTweetie Well if it clears the jails a bit, no problem here.
