Man injured after falling off balcony during U District party
SEATTLE - A party came to an abrupt end for one man Friday night after he fell from a second story balcony and seriously injured himself, said police.
Officers and fire department medics responded to the 4500 block of 17th Avenue Northeast just before 11:40p.m. after receiving a call that a man had fallen off a balcony.
Police say the victim was hanging out on a crowded balcony during the party when he tried to get around people by partially climbing over a railing. As he attempted to move along the railing he lost his footing, falling two and half stories and landing on the street between two cars.
The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police do no suspect foul play.
A simple "excuse me" and move through the crowd would have worked. Idiot, lol.Â
So much for Higher Education. What they should be teaching is common sense.
@Nightshift Doesn't actually say it was a student....just happened in the U District. OBTW---my daughter is getting an excellent education at WWU.
The school cannot teach common sense. If you are a moron, and go to a great school you come out an educated moron.
@SandyBeach @Nightshift Lots of WWU students went to UW parties.
lol, idiot
"Police do not suspect foul play."
I wonder of acohol was invovled...
@Tattooed_Angel Nahhhhhhhhhh!
Someone falls off those balconys every year.
@Willow It happens alot.
My son fell from a balcony a few years ago. Even though his injuries were not life threatening they were critical. My heart is broken for this kid who will probably have years of recovery ahead of him. This is a very tough mistake to make. And, I am heart broken for the parent who received the call. It is life changing for all involved.
"Police do no suspect foul play."
They do no expect foul play huh? Well when he graduates from school he can go to work doing news stories I guess.
I hope the man recovers quickly....this reminds me of my younger daze......lol
Actually this is not so bad.They usually kill themselves.
Â@oldster70The Greek system is only about 8% of the student population but I am probably not going out on a limb to think that most deaths and injuries in the student population occur in that culture with the style of adult oversight it has.Â
oops
If alcohol was involved I don't really care about it. It's just natural selection at work.
@Steve98028Â Same here. If trying to appear cool is worth of risk of possible death and more important than living a long life with your family, I can't really care.
Thank you for not referring to "Darwin".
@Throbbinhood A thousand LIKES for you, sir! I get so sick of seeing some mouth breather drool out that stale cliche on every single death-related article. And doubly so when the victim didn't even die.Â
The adults who oversee the Greek community as private entities are apparently unable to address the issue of falls and most of these seem to happen with other people around who don't seem to think of persuading the person not to do certain things near a window or balcony.Â
@Citizen#3457899654Â Hard to persuade someone not to do something stupid when you're drunk and likely also acting stupid.
Darwin Award Committee will take into consideration..
@Windowseat No they won't. He didn't die and falling off of balconies, out of windows, and off of roofs at frat parties is hardly Darwin worthy even if he did die. Happens every weekend.
Ugh.
@Throbbinhood Darn, I posted too soon on your other comment. :( Â
For the love of God, can people please, please, PLEASE keep that stale thing in the holster at least when the victim survived, therefore not even qualifying??? Please?Â
Please?Â
Honest to God, these "ban" comments on every story are getting beyond old.
@Zoso Almost as nauseatingly beaten into the ground as the Darwin Award mouth-mouthbreathers.Â
@Zoso Aw...I was just having fun. I think we should ban the ban comments though.Â
....ya had to go there, didn't you?
@Throbbinhood Clearly a ban on discussing comment bans should be enacted.
Seems like I heard a similar story last month ... and the month before ... and the month before ...
KOMO should just post the following headline with no corresponding article:
SAME OUTCOME, DIFFERENT PARTY.
We would know what they mean.
A few things we can all learn from this:
Drinking gives you super powers. (at least before the fall)
Basements are a tad safer.
"9.8 mt/s^2" Â , Â or just less than one full second.
@cheekygesturton It's not the fall; it's the sudden stop when you hit the ground.Â
How many young drunk students have to suffer before we ban balconies?Â
Hey everybody , look at meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee........................SPLAT. ooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhh.
Not even worth the mention, KOMO.
Yes, that is frat row at UW.Â
@lakeview Otherwise known as splat row...
@MargeGunderson Excellent.
