UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. -- A man was fatally shot in University Place Tuesday afternoon and two shooters remain on the loose, Pierce County Sheriff's officials say.
The shooting took place outside of a 7/11 convenience store just before 3 p.m. near the corner of S. 56th Street and S. Orchard Street.
The victim, who has not been identified, was a 28-year-old from University Place, according to Ed Troyer with the Pierce County Sheriff's Office.
Two men wearing dark clothing were seen running off after the shooting and remain on the loose, Troyer said.
Nickolas Nagel lives in the area and said he heard at least five gunshots.
"Yeah, a drug deal or something like that wouldn't surprise me in this area," he said.
Troyer said investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting, but he said it could be drug related.
"We don't know what led up to this. There are some signs that this may be drug related. This is an area known for that," he said.
Detectives are on scene investigating. No eye witnesses have come forward.
