Man found dead inside Bellevue home with crying boy ID'd
BELLEVUE, Wash. -- The medical examiner has identified the man found dead by two friends who answered a Craigslist ad over the weekend.

Matthew Steckler, 36, of Bellevue was found inside a home in the 15800 block of SE Fifth Place. A 4-year-old boy who answered the door said he couldn't wake up his dad, who was bleeding from the nose.

Investigators believe the man had been dead for several days before he was found on Saturday. Cause and manner of death have not been determined.

Police interviewed the young boy, who was very scared and hungry. He told police it had been two or more days since he could not wake up his dad.

"Hopefully (the boy) didn't see too much and doesn't realize what happened," said Lt. Marcia Harnden. "It's never an easy thing to see a dead body, especially when it's maybe been there for a day or two."

Harnden said there was nothing suspicious about the man's death, but police are investigating due to the unusual circumstances.

The boy's mother does not live with the father, and she was out of town Saturday. As a result, police took the boy to stay with his grandparents.

"Poor kid. I don't know the words to describe it. That's horrible," said a neighbor who only wished to be identified as "Shane."

Neighbors said they rarely saw Steckler, who had moved in three months ago.

"I didn't see the kid very often," said Shane. "You feel bad for the kid."

"Very nice people. Very nice," said another neighbor.
