Man hit by suspected drunk driver while trying to pick fight with cop

RENTON, Wash. - A man was struck and seriously injured by a suspected drunk driver Wednesday evening as he stood in the middle of the street trying to pick a fight with a police officer, authorities said.
The drama began Wednesday evening at about 8:50 p.m. when police received reports of a man creating a disturbance in the 1100 block of Grady Way, said Cmdr. Clark Wilcox of the Renton police.
An officer arrived at the scene within minutes and found a man in his 20s. As the officer approached him, the man began to walk away towards SW Grady Way then stepped into the roadway as traffic whizzed by.
The officer tried to get the man out of the roadway by talking to him, but the man refused to listen and or leave the roadway.
As the officer approached the man, he turned towards the officer and positioned his body in an offensive fighting stance.
Meanwhile, cars and trucks were approaching the officer and the man as he stood in the eastbound lanes of the roadway.
The officer was able to divert several vehicles around the man and himself so they would not be hit. But as the officer was requesting additional police units he saw an approaching Honda CRV that wouldn't slow down, and the driver did not appear to see the officer or the man in the roadway.
The officer was able to jump clear from the oncoming vehicle at the last moment, but the man in the roadway was struck and seriously injured.
Medics were called to the scene, and the man was rushed to Harborview Medical Center suffering from head injuries.
The woman who was driving the car was uninjured.
Wilcox said it appeared she was driving under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested and faces possible charges of DUI vehicle assault.

I hear Nelson.
Sounds like the 20 year old had head injuries before he began the disturbance. People seem to never cease to amaze me.Â
Natural Selection on overtime...
Yahoo. Karma.
Daaaaaang!
I really did need a laugh! Thanks, Renton!
Wow, the cop nailed a drunk driver and an idiot disturbing the peace all in one shot. Or should I say the drunk driver nailed the idiot and the cop got credit for both! Why doesn't the show Cops follow around Washington police more often?
Only in Renton....
Wow...how comical. Officer: reflexes of a puma. Drunk:Â reflexes of a traffic cone. Last words he heard where "Hey, watch ou...".Â
Nice driving ma'am.Â
Suddenly some John Lennon lyrics come to mind; "Instant Karma is gonna get you, gonna knock you right in the face." One time police force wasn't necessary. Just stand your ground, there you go. What a flippin' moron.
Funny. You know what the last thing was to go thru his head when the car hit him? His ass.
He fought the law and law... THUMP!
@This_again? That's right. He "fought the law and the... law won." ;)
I know two wrongs don't make a right, but this story gave me a chuckle. I'm a bad person now, aren't I?
No you most certainly are not.
Renton + intoxication + stupidity=Â just another Wednesday.
You couldn't make this stuff up! Â The poor officer had to write to incident reports for this one, thanks to the stupidity of two people.
Natural selection at work.
Just glad nobody important got hurt.
I needed something to brighten my day. Thanks Renton!
Sweet. Drunken poetic justice. The planets must be aligning nicely...
Two drunks collide! Now there is a headline.
Ahh Renton.....
Instant karma.
Renton, Ahead of the Curve!
Before reading the story, I will say that this is one of the more bizarre headlines I have seen.
Never bring a drunk driver to a fist fight. Â
Is this the definition of "car'-ma?
Hahaha! NICE!
Too bad they weren"t both gangbangers.
But, then an energy vortex would have opened somewhere...
The guy that got hit by the drunk driver has head injuries? The poor decisions to #1 fight with a cop, #2 not listen to being told to getting off the road before you get hit already are red flags to a head injury.
Â
Is this a car-pedestrian accident or a car-dumbasstrian accident?
Apparently, last night was a two-for-one sale on idiots in Renton bars...
Come on, people, picking a fight with a cop AND a DUI? Really? I don't usually expect a lot of smarts out of a lot of sheeple, but this one is pretty dumb.
Karma (or is that Carma) WORKS. both alerted the Gene police that there are TWO really stupid folks in the pool AND provided the evidence to maybe put one away for a week or two. S/B DUI and a Vehicular Assault at the least. The Walker got a BIG "dont DOOOO That" from Life.
Not to bad two for the price one one..
And the man's family will end up suing the Renton police department. "he is such a good boy, he didn't deserve this. The cop was picking on him!"
@DrakeDiscord The Renton police should counter sue the parents for not teaching him that playing in the street is dangerous! :))))
@DrakeDiscord You forgot,"he was turning his life around"...
Â
and he helped old ladies cross the street, voluntarily put a couple pennies into the penny jar at the store, and he is single handily catching drunk drivers.... well, I guess that last one was unintentional.....
@spiffyjumper  @DrakeDiscord and he had a baby daughter, and just enrolled in community college.  That's the standard line.
I've heard of justice being swift but this is rediculuous.
<sigh>Â It's NOT Darwinism if no one dies.
@No Time For purposes of awarding the Darwin Award, removal of reproductive functions counts as well.
Instant Karma's gonna get you Gonna knock you right on the head You better get yourself together Pretty soon you're gonna be dead-
-Lennon
Best. Headline. EVER!
and the cop gets a twofer
Wizard of Oz song lyrics come to mind . . . "If I only had a brain".

 @alexcrowley Awesome thank you!!!
This is truly the feel good story of the day! I hope every moron that tries to mess with a cop has an SUV with his name on it!
Who's to say a good whack on the head doesn't actually do some good on some occasion? If it didn't help HIM any at least it gave me a chuckle.
are you kidding me? maybe she deserves a DUI, but nothing further if the man was clearly playing in the road.
