Man killed as car slams into trees in rural Skagit County

DARRINGTON, Wash. - A 20-year-old Darrington man was killed Sunday morning when his car crashed into trees along a rural stretch of highway in Skagit County, the Washington State Patrol reported.
State troopers responded to the scene, on Highway 530 near Concrete Sauk Valley Road, at about 9:45 a.m. after receiving a report of a serious crash.
Arriving at the scene, troopers found a 1993 Subaru Legacy completely demolished in a stand of trees. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation found that the man was alone in the car, heading east on Highway 530, when he crossed over into the oncoming lane, veered off the roadway and slammed into the trees. He was ejected from the car by the force of the impact.
The man was later identified as Kenneth Cousins, 20, of Darrington.

That was one of my best friends, i knew him since we were 5 years old! He did not deserve to go at such a young age! Doesnt matter what happened or why it happened, it did people should respect him. Nobody would like it if they lost a loved one. Love you forever Kenny, RIP my friend!
certainly a tragedy, a young man's life gone, a family and friends left to grieve. I have to wonder why these events so horrific happen, daily,. I think this car should be shown all over the state, not because of what happened or why, that doesn;t matter now,,however the impact of seeing what can happen if were not paying attention, or drinking or drugs, who knows, but one thing i do know, the sight of that vehicle, and the outcome are convincing that our young drivers need to pay attention.my condolences to the faily and friends.
This happened out past my Dad's place. He saw they car when they brought it by on a roll back. In his words "Looked like a bomb went off inside the car. There was nothing left."Â
Where this accident happened, its common for people to drive very fast. I guess its safe to say this could of been avoided.
so sorry for his friends and family...rest in peace Ken.
Wow, to use an Airforce term "I'm coming in hot" Wow
Oh dear heavens! That is horrific. I don't care how or why it happened, a young man lost his life. It could have been anyone's son. The family's hearts must be broken. No one wants to get that call. Rest in peace young man.
That's horrifying. I don't know how to say this politely so I'll just say it. It's probably a good thing he was ejected or he wouldn't be in one piece to be found. That is insane. There is nothing left of that car. My condolences for the family and friends of Kenneth.
You will be great fully missed. Thought and pryers are with you. The picture of the car reminds me when my brother was killed in a car crash. It wasn't as bad as that one, but it was pretty bad. My condolences to the family. It brakes my heart. He was way to young, but he will be looking down on everyone.
My son has a 92 Subaru Legacy that he decided to take to OR from WA after high school graduation. He was ready to "DEP" into the Airforce 2 days later. He went with some other friends and his dog. The hotel they were staying at didn't take dogs, so he continued on his journey to the coast.  After drinking he made a bad decision. He drove off a 1500 ft drop off on the OR coast, I am SO GRATEFUL that my son, his dog and his subaru are still here for me. I will forward this post to my son to let him see how bad things can really be. Condolences to the family. Thank you for sharing. My thoughts are with you!!
Looks like a horrible accident. Condolences to the family. Lots of people die in cars each year and many ARE well mannered, sober, good drivers that simply make some slight over-correction. Lots of wild life in that area of the county. Coulda been trying to avoid a deer or elk. Sad.
Wow, there is nothing left of that car! My condolences to the family.
Please keep your comments clean and positive this kid is part of my family.... not directly but by marriage, but he was still family.... I don't appreciate some of the ignorance coming out of people. If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. He was a very nice kind hearted person and would have never ever taken the time out of his day to type these terrible things about anyone .Just keep in mind that this could have happened to anyone at any time... if it was your family or friend I don't think you people writing those things would appreciate it. Rest in piece lil Kenny we love you!!
That kid must have been going really fast to have done that kind of damage to the car. I wonder if it was just excessive speed or if drugs and or alcohol were involved. Time will tell.
@what? or texting, sad RIP
What a serious bummer. Rest in peace.
RIP young man.
some of us were friends and family of his so please be respectful

@Kristina Its the internet dont take any of it to heart......sorry for your loss, sincerely.
That kid was hauling a$$ to do that kind of damage to that car.
Poor tree.
@m9078jk3 you need to remove this you are very heartless.... my family doesn't need people like you saying ignorant things like this, what if this was you brother would you appreciate it much..... jerk
Tissyh...No need to call people names. If you are asking the same in return.
Must have been in a hurry to get to church. Â I can only imagine how fast he must have been going to make that much of a mess of the car.
@Tim Lane maybe you should be at church more often for being so heartless this kid is my family..... and anyone ignorant enough to like this should carpool to church with him...
@Tim Lane That was a car??
Sure seems to be a lot of vehicles lately that mysteriously veer into trees.
@Ankle Biter if you're referring to the lady who's van was impaled by a tree, she blacked out and they later found a tumor on her brain that may of been the cause of her blacking out.
@ValleyBronco @Ankle Biter There was another woman killed just a few days ago in SW Washington too. Veered into trees. At least her kids survived.
@Ankle Biter  (jeepers) That's one Hell of a crash..... It would be interesting to know if there were any skid marks.... estimated speed of the vehicle before impact sort of thing... sad. :(
