SHORELINE, Wash. - An Everett man was killed Saturday evening when his pickup slammed into an overpass pillar and flipped over a guardrail along Interstate 5 near Shoreline, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Troopers responded to the scene, on I-5 at NE 185th Street, at about 5:25 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious one-vehicle crash.

Arriving at the scene, they found that a 1998 Chevy S10 pickup had veered off the northbound lanes of I-5 into a grassy area, slammed into a pillar supporting the 185th Street overpass and flipped over the guard rail beneath the overpass, coming to rest on its top.

A man was found dead inside the car. He was later identified as Bryon T. Monge, 30, of Everett.

It was not immediately known what caused the pickup to veer off the freeway. The accident remains under investigation, the State Patrol said.
