Man shot by Kirkland police during attempted getaway

KIRKLAND, Wash. -- A Kirkland police officer shot a man who allegedly drove his SUV directly at the officer while trying to get away late Monday.
Kirkland police Lt. Mike Murray said the incident began just after 11 p.m. when officers on foot patrol heard a woman yelling for help outside the Motel 6 at 12010 120th Place NE.
The woman told officers she was the victim of a crime and pointed them toward a man who was running through the parking lot.
Officers ordered the man to stop, Murray said, but he got into an SUV and began speeding out of the lot.
When the man swerved directly at one of the officers, the officer fired a single shot, hitting the man in the shoulder, Murray said.
The man kept driving but crashed at a car dealership parking lot about four blocks away. He got out of the SUV and ran off, but was quickly captured.
He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle to be treated for the gunshot wound and was listed in stable condition.
No one else was injured and the King County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation. It was not immediately clear what the man may have done to the woman who initially called for help.
The officer who fired the shot has been placed on paid leave, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings.

Motel 6 in Kirkland...a known spot for troubles for sure.
such a beautiful, perfect maneuver by kirkland police. Â good job, guys!
 @CIAassassin for real! i was thinking the exact same thing! too bad seattle PD can't be this damn good!
 @DylanJ  you know it!
Name and mugshot?
So he was trying to get away, but was driving at the officer? Usually when reports like this come out, it turns out that the person was driving AWAY from the officer, and the officer lost their temper and fire at the vehicle (as in the last similar case of this happening in Everett, where the officer claimed the man was driving at him, yet the coroners officer + the 8 bullets through the BACK of the vehicle proved the guy was driving away. Not that its ever a good idea to run from officers, but lethal force should only be used when there is an imminent threat to life according to the law.
Â
Hopefully that is not the case here, but sadly weve reached times where law enforcement throughout King County isnt that trustworthy (ask the SPD).
I don't understand why people run from the police? Don't you know it's going to end up worse for you in the long run, nitwit?
 @Tattooed_Angel you'd be surprised
Here we go again. It's the wild west. The guy must have been carving some wood
Just like Yosemite Sam used to say on Buggs Bunny âWhoa Camel⦠BANGâ.
Nice shooting... Â Good job...
We really need to improve our basic education system in this country.  I mean "stop, police" is a very simple statement, not hard to comprehend at all....but somehow people keep misunderstanding it. Â
Â
The crook will likely try to sue the police, but he really shoud be suing the school system... he didn't get the education he needed, apparently.
Nice work officer!!! Â Â
What crime was this victim for... at that motel 6 hrm let me guess.. I voting either drugs or prostitute who didn't get paid.... Make sure the perp works off his bill via chain gang labor in the local sewer!Â
@Freespeech OMG, I,m so stupid, I thought someone was being murdered, it sounded like it!!!!
