Man shot by intruders in Des Moines home

DES MOINES, Wash. -- Police in Des Moines are looking for two men who shot a man in his own home late Monday.
Sgt. Bob Bohl said the two men kicked in a door at the home in the 1300 block of South 251st Street and demanded money from the man and woman who were inside.
The 53-year-old homeowner got into a fight with the intruders and was pistol whipped and shot in the abdomen, Bohl said. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and was expected to survive.
The intruders left after the shooting and remain at large. The woman who was in the home was not hurt.
Investigators are still trying to determine if the home was targeted.
"The victim's house is kind of tucked away a little bit," Bohl said. "Somebody would really have to know the area a little bit to know the house is back there."
Bohl said one of the intruders is white, in his late 20s, with a shaved head or close-cropped hair with a red scruffy and unshaven face. No description of the second intruder was available.

Settle down local sheeple giving a physical description of a suspect depends on which the wind is blowing in most cases with local news...
This is why you need to install a steel "kick-plate" into your door frame, my guess is these people simply had their deadbolt going right into a wooden frame which is easily broken.

A kick plate isn't a guarantee, but it will give you enough time to hear the commotion and arm yourself.
 @NorthwestEconomist While steel kick plates are definitely better, if people would even just replace the screws in the strike plate with 3" deck screws or similar they would be miles ahead of a standard door installation.
 @NorthwestEconomist Steel door frame and 2 locked doors in between the path of the door to our bedroom, which is armed with a cruiser ready shotgun.
I really hope those SOB's who did this try it again at a home with a homeowner who is armed and will pull the trigger on them. There is no need in society for trash like them.
Always carry, even in your home. Sad that it has come to that but it looks as if it has. You apparently never know when some thug is going to try to kick in your front door.
I hear what you say and I have some serious home protection, but I doubt people will start carrying around firearms in their homes while they're sitting around at the dinner table. I've had the unfortunate experience of having to shoot an intruder. It's pretty scary. Hopefully IÂ won't ever have to do that again.
WTF? When 4 Hispanic guys killed a man in Belltown, Komo would not provide what race they were, but when it's white guys, they don't hesitate for a second. Komo, please on crime related stories include any physical description available to make the world a little smaller for the criminal. This filtering of minorities makes no sense, providing a physical description is NOT racist, filtering out minorities is.
