AUBURN, Wash. -- An Auburn neighborhood turned into a shooting gallery Wednesday morning that ended with three arrests, a wounded man and a gun in the pocket of a 5-year-old boy.
A man in his 30s was wounded after getting into a gun fight with the mother of his 5-year-old child, who witnessed the entire melee.
Detectives don't know what prompted the the shooting, but they say the gunshot victim was parked in the driveway of his ex-girlfriend's house with their young son in the back seat.
As father and son sat in the car, police say the ex-girlfriend and two other men pulled up to the house and fired multiple gunshots.
The father returned fire, and moments later everyone involved sped away from the scene. The gunshot victim stopped a few blocks away, and when officers approached his car, they found a gun in the 5-year-old's pocket.
Police later found and arrested the ex-girlfriend and two other men in a local parking lot.
While the father was the only person injured in the shooting, neighbors reported hearing plenty of shots ring out. Les Alexander was inside his friend's living room when the shooting began.
"I flip back and hear a 'pop,'" he said.
A bullet went through the fence, into a window and hit a television, narrowly missing Alexander.
"I heard the first shot then the TV fizzled out," said Cliff Grace, who lives at the home.
The two men ran outside to see what was going on, but only saw a car backing out of the driveway. Detectives arrived a short time later and removed the television, which will be used as evidence in the case.
"I'm kind of mad about my TV, (but) at least my friend didn't get shot though," Grace said.
The 5-year-old boy was not injured and is now with relatives.

This is why Guns should NOT be in the hands of a 5 Year Old, Until he can reload without assistance.
"the mother of his child" huh...
Why do people "run outside to see what is going on" when they hear gunshots? Especially if one just came through their window? "Outside" is NOT SAFE when someone is out there shooting! Go to an inside room & let the melee sort itself out first, then go see what happened instead of running out to see if you can become a gunshot victim. If you absolutely must try to be a witness, at least just look out the window. Jeez, where's the common sense?
@katiemcc this is Auburn Common sense Rarely speaks or can not be heard over the girgling of a pipe.....

I hope the child is removed permanently.
December 21st is coming. Please beam me up Jesus it is just too weird here.
NOTHING about an individual excuses this kind of utter crap. This illustrates why the overall community does and should have a say so in values and conduct of individuals.
Come on, shots don't ring out in Auburn!
@Hehateme It's seasonal. "and Christmas shots are ring-ing!"
@Hehateme No. The article clearly states they were "pops". Ha.
what do we expect from a child that grows up like that?
Great move - endangering your child that way. Such a "Mother"
Old Elvis song, "Then one night in desperation A young man breaks away He buys a gun, steals a car, Tries to run, but he don't get far And his mama cries As a crowd gathers round an angry young man Face down on the street with a gun in his hand In the ghetto"
Oh, the old baby's mama mad at the baby daddy thing again. i get it. respect.
It just keeps getting even wilder.........I just dont get what could possibly motivate a woman to fire into a car that her son is in? What kind of low life cretin can do such a thing?Â
@Susabelle I'm guessing she was driving and the other two thugs in the car were shooting.
@Klondiko  @Susabelle Actually she wasn't driving until after the fact fleeing with the other two......
@Susabelle The same type of low life that would date someone who would put a gun in his 5 year old sons pocket!! Trash
...where to even start with this.....
So now, they both lose custody and the sooner the better!
Am I the only one wondering how and why the kid has the dad's gun in his pocket?
@grcymgr probably thought the cops weren't gonna check the lil boy after all they are auburn finest.....
Â
@grcymgr Pure speculation, but it could be he isn't legal to carry concealed.Â
@MargeGunderson  @grcymgr my thought exactly, however, judging from the story, him returning fire may have saved his life - legal or not.
@MargeGunderson  @grcymgr poor little guy.....I just cant have sympathy for someone who would turn a gun over to a child..........Â
@grcymgr That info was not  available, when I first read the story it said nothing about the five year old with a gun.
 @grcymgr no, you are not.......a 5 year old!Â
Okay, I've heard enough.....lock em both up and get that poor little one into a safe and loving environment with someone that will put his safety and well being first. Sheesh

@Tooby Roosday If I'm holstered, it's to continue protecting the lives of my children.Â
 @Tooby Roosday Ummm...  what?
 @Hagar  @Tooby Roosday It's just a rant......I was ignoring them.....Â
@Tooby Roosday  @Susabelle  @Hagar Ah to ol' "Guns were invented for killing so they can't possibly be used for anything else until the end of time itself". Right. Keep on believing that delusion. You only put it forth to try to justify a really bad argument that has absolutely no basis. You have an irrational fear of guns. Fine. Don't try to convince people that don't have that irrational fear that the only reason for guns is to kill. The very fact that 100's of MILLIONs of rounds are fired every year (in the US alone) for purposes other than killing and very few rounds are used to actually kill totally and thoroughly blows your delusion out of the water. The numbers are so against you I can't believe you even bother to say what you do. You have no chance of convincing any reasonable person who can objectively analyze a situation and draw a factual conclusion.Â
As for gun ownership I can justify it easily:
1. Guarenteed under our constitution
2. When a woman needs to defend herself against a rapist, she likely needs a gun
3. When an elderly person needs to defend against an intruder, they likely need a gun
4. When anyone needs to defend against an individual that has a superior advantage, they likely need a gun.
5. Most encounters happen so fast that calling the cops is often no help.
So your last sentence is so much bs it was easy to refute it. You let your irrational feelings rule over logic and facts.
@SeattleJoe  @Susabelle  @Hagar If you are simple minded enough to really believe that guns were invented for other purposes than killing such as "plinking" or target shooting, you should in no way be allowed to own guns. And we just had a Marysvile cop, who is supposed to be a responsible, knowledge person in regards to firearms that now has a dead daughter. You know, you can try to justify gun ownership and how wonderful they are until the cows come home, but in the end, there is very little to justify their possession and to refute that there only true purpose is to cause death.
@Tooby Roosday  @Susabelle  @Hagar Of the 100's of millions of rounds fired every year, the number fired to harm someone almost doesn't register. So, guns are not only for killing or harming but are mostly used for just about anything else from simple plinking to target shooting to competition etc. As for leaving a gun accessible to children obviously a smart person wouldn't leave a functional firearm where children could get them. But then again why should I address ridiculous hyperbole?
@SeattleJoe  @Susabelle  @Hagar And just what do you use your gun for - picking your nose or scratching your butt? Or maybe you leave it accessible for a child to play with, and guess what the end result usually is?
@Susabelle@Hagar@Tooby Roosday A wise choice with Tooby's ramblings... The ol' "are good for one thing and one thing only - causing DEATH." shows someone who is so ignorant its hardly worth addressing. Might as well let him/her troll on and ignore it.

You might be a redneck if...
I'll bet a dollar to a donut that neither one of these lovebird zombies has a permit to carry and that they both get charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.
@TreeTopFlyer If it was open carry they don't need a permit... and I'll be you're right that neither of them have a permit for concealed carry.
@TreeTopFlyer but they were in a car so I guess you would need a permit???
@makeadifference @TreeTopFlyer Yes, in a car you need a concealed permit to carry a loaded handgun in any manner. If they were outside they would be able to open carry as long as they were legal to own a gun.
Now that is some role models that every child needs, (just kidding) I think its best to remove the child from both their care. They prove today that they have no regard for the child when they shot each other.Â
