I couldn't help musing whether a man's belltown is something like a woman's fracas... ;-)
I'm sure they were simply celebrating MLK day and the Obama inauguration with a friendly joust. Nothing to see here...move along.
Obviously the knife control laws in this country are way too lax... How much longer are we going to just idly standby while while these sharp instruments are being sold to just anyone that wants one. What about the cutlery show loophole? Why not a background check? How about limiting a box of steak knives to 10 or less? How many knives does one person really need anyway? A butter knife only law could have prevented this incident from ever happening. If it prevents just one cut from happening it's worth it! If you're not laughing by now it's because you're a liberal. Sorry :)
 @javajoe these jokes are just getting old, it's funny the first couple of times, but reality is that we have a violence problem - not a gun problem - and to address violence we need to dig deeper than to look at the instruments
Human beings have been murdering each other with zeal and lust for ten thousand years and we are still going at it strong. You will never evolve murder out of the hearts of human beings. It is just part of what we do. Natures way of keeping the herd down maybe? I don't know....just be careful who you associate with. Try to stay away from drug addicts and convicts. Lock your doors and keep a firearm handy. Never know.....
 @Rick4001CS Treating your neighbor with human decency and setting aside your own petty emotions for the safety of another?  Out of question.  Respecting humanity as part of a progressive movement?  No.  Lets go back to how we think ancient people lived to create our own warped viewpoints.  It's a conspiracy.  The best way to control a population is to create strife.  Ignorance (IE actions that lead up to murder) are a part of that cycle, and you are celebrating in it.
 @Rick4001CS you are right, we always killed each other, however, over time we learned to understand that we all benefit from reducing violence - one of the reasons Christianity was so successful and found it's way into our laws. As society we should always thrive to reduce violence, and for a rich country our numbers are not great. Locking the door is not good enough for me.
Just another day in the hood belltown
a knife? wow, how retro!
 @Rick4001CS You are retro,
Am I the only one who has the impression there was actually less crime in Belltown when it was a neglected corner of the universe before it was gentrified and filled with condos?Â
 @Citizen#3457899654 I think that the trend is for developers to buy an area when it's still cheap, clean it up to make it more appealing to white-collar types and build over-priced condos to sell.  Then, after all the money to be made has been made, leave it to languish and move onto the next money-making project.
@Citizen#3457899654 Interesting observation but not accurate. There is more reporting of this now vs. back then because Belltown is now one of the most populated neighborhoods in the city.(and still growing) Â 80% of these crimes are committed by a small group of (mostly) the same people. Any urban neighborhood has this same type of issue. It is not unique to Belltown.
 @Citizen#3457899654 Or maybe it just wasn't reported.
Â
30 years ago Belltown was the home for druggies and crazies but few others. So a few stabbings and shootings weren't terribly important to the Times or PI.
 @Citizen#3457899654 Absolutely! I used to work not far from there, 2nd and Bell, a block or so from Mama's Mexican Kitchen. It was funky, but definitely safe. I worked the swing shift at a type shop.
 @Good News I thought so, thank you for the guidance from your own experience.Â
