Matthews Beach reopens after week-long closure

SEATTLE - A popular Seattle beach is back open for swimmers Saturday morning.

Seattle Parks will reopen Matthews Beach at 11 a.m. Environmental officials tested water samples this week and found low bacteria counts that are within the safe swimming level.

The busy beach was shut down abruptly on August 1 after a routine test found fecal coliform levels were too high for swimming.

Matthews Beach is located on Lake Washington, and is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends, and noon to 7 p.m. on weekdays.
