LAS VEGAS (AP) - Miss North Dakota and Miss Washington have picked up prizes in the third day of preliminary Miss America competition in Las Vegas.
Miss North Dakota Rosie Sauvageau took top honors Thursday after her piano and vocal rendition of "To Make You Feel My Love." The 24-year-old from Fargo, N.D., will take a $2,000 Amway scholarship home from the competition at Planet Hollywood resort.
Miss Washington Mandy Schendel took the trophy for the third round of the Lifestyle and Fitness category after modeling a strapless white Catalina swimsuit. The 22-year-old from Newcastle, Wash., earned a $1,000 Amway scholarship for it.
Contestants are divided into three groups and compete in different categories during three nights of preliminaries. Their scores factor in the finals that will be broadcast live on Saturday.

Her vs. Christina Hendricks? Point made. I would be to afraid of breaking this fragile anorexic girls body to give it to her right. Real woman may not have to have breasts like Christina's to be beautiful, but you should have enough extra meat for your durability to be trusted. My own gals milkshake certainly brings my boys to her yard, neatly mowed of course.
@6hauptman6It's doubtful that she is anorexic. She has none of the telltale signs. IE Sallow cheeks, yellowing of the eyes and she has decent muscle tone (in most anorexic individuals the body will start to eat the muscle and you will end up looking more like a marathon runner, ie no muscle tone, and gaunt). I would assume she is probably addicted to exercise however, as she is on the skinny side, but probably maintains a healthy diet, because she's managed to maintain tone.

that is one ugly bathing suit. Â I agree, her hipbone area smacks of being far too underweight for her height. It's one thing to have a disorder where you have low body fat, but that is just not attractive at all. you should not have a concave pelvis.Â
I think that as long as she eats well, exercises reasonably that whatever size a person ends up is just right. I'm probably her size too- although with more muscles- I wear a 2 and eat about 2500kcal a day just to maintain my weight between climbs.Â

Everyone complaining that she's too skinny ought to see a picture of me in that swimsuit; you'll see true too skinny. (What am I saying, my boobs couldn't hold that thing up!) She's fit and probably works very hard to stay so, and most women would give anything to look like that (me included). Now I'm going back to my bowl of ice cream and hoping for a few ounces of an increase next time I step on that scale.Â
@Val I have to correct you on that one. "Most" women would NOT give anything to look like her. Maybe most white women. But the rest of us love curves, as do the men who love us with them. Most men, though not all admit it, don't find jutting bones sexy.

I know that I am too skinny, being a full time mother and full time manager at a grocery store can do that to a person with an already over active metabolism. I am by no means anorexic, though I have a sister who is. I was simply comparing a healthy skinny, the woman in the picture, to an unhealthy skinny, meaning myself. I certainly have no ego, considering I actually hate my figure, or lack of. And as for "help", my doctor's are working very hard to help me come up with a healthy way to add more carbs and protein into my diet, while working around an extremely active schedule. So thanks, but you couldn't have misunderstood my words any worse.

So what's all the hooplah? Yea, she's a bit thin, most women wouldn't mind being that thin if they didn't have to starve to get there (and we all know this lady did)....but the bathing suit? Did the bottom fall off or something? I thought this whole thing was going to be about a Janet Jackson "costume malfunction" or something. Did the bathing suit bottom slip off her right hip? I don't see the suit anywhere on that side at all? What did they do....Super-glue the left side so it would stay put?

Who would want jutting bony hip bones like that?  Sorry.. don't ascribe that to everyone else.  I've been never over a size 6 my whole life, and even in high school at 98 pounds I did not have that kind of boney stuff sticking out. It's not attractive.Â

If any of us (without you knowing what we look like,) say that someone is at too low of a body fat, has bones jutting out like an underweight 16 year old boy, we're automatically jealous???  That is how people keep women down.  We don't like something, or we're concerned about something, it means we're jealous? I've been in shape my whole life, and did not look like a coat rack.  But hey, if you find the body structure of a 16 year old boy who is growing too fast, or of people on those Unicef ads, attractive.. then more power to you.Â

We only watch the opening montage so we can see all the contestants...and the only thing I remember about Miss Washington was her snarky comment about Russell Wilson and the Seahawks. She has an incredibly fit body and looks great in her swimsuit and I'm glad she won a scholarship, but I still think any gal that thin could use a cupcake or two. (Yes, it's a joke, lighten up)...

You know, I've been just as indoctrinated by Madison Avenue and Playboy magazine as the next reasonably average American male, but this girl looks too thin. She looks like a wrestler or boxer who wore the sweat-suit too many days to make weight for a match and appears to be just one step ahead of anorexia.

Look, our culture puts too much emphasis on physical looks anyway and we are making our little girls miserable in the process. Most girls who participate in a sport quit by 16 in order to focus on their looks and eating disorders are rampant in our schools. Kids start tanning [and risking skin cancer] way too early and there are some dresses in sizes suitable for middle school girls that wouldn't look out of place on a full grown woman at a bar.

@newdragon ND, I wouldn't call Sofia Vergara, Christina Hendricks, Halle Berry, or Alyssa Milano 'fat', not by any means.
@newdragon I've met Alyssa Milano once, briefly on the subway in New York. As for the others, nope. I just think they look better, healthier, than an awful lot of the models I've seen over the years.
But then, I've always had a thing for brunettes with brains and curves. :)
That's a perfectly normal swimsuit in a Perfect body. Believe me, the judges were not looking at the suit.

I think she looks great and the muscular legs are nice. The only thing that is hard to look at is the jutting hip bone.
There must be something wrong with me. I'm heterosexual, and yet I don't find her attractive at all. Nor do I think her "swimsuit" is at all flattering.

Keifer, my husband agrees with you. The swimsuit is a glorified bra and thong. Although appearing fit to gym junkies, she's not a good role model for the average teenager who needs to set attainable goals. Skin and bone is not attractive or healthy.Â
