OLYMPIA, Wash. – The father-in-law of missing mother Susan Powell is scheduled to be released from prison in about 3½ weeks, after completing a sentence for 14 counts of voyeurism, the Washington state Corrections Department said.

Steven Powell, 63, has been serving time at Monroe Correctional Complex for secretly recording images of young neighbor girls as they used the bathroom. He was sentenced in June 2012 and originally was scheduled for release in May. His new release date is set for Nov. 4.

After his release Powell will be a tenant in a privately owned home in Tacoma under the supervision of a community corrections officer who is part of a specialized sex-crime unit.

Powell will be required to wear a GPS locator for at least the first 30 days of his community supervision. He will also be required to attend a sex-offender treatment program and he must get permission from his community corrections officer to leave Pierce County.

Powell will be required to report to his community corrections officer twice each month, and he will be subject to random checks. The community corrections officer can place Powell in custody if he violates the terms of his community supervision.

Powell has been increasingly in the public eye since his daughter-in-law Susan Powell disappeared from her home in December 2009. Her husband, Steven Powell's son Josh, was a focus of the investigation until he killed himself and the couple's two children last year in an explosive house fire in Graham.

Investigators turned their attention to Josh Powell's brother, Michael, who, they now believe, helped Josh dispose of Susan's body. Michael committed suicide by jumping off a parking garage in Minneapolis three months ago.

Josh Powell and his two young sons moved into his father's home in Puyallup after Susan Powell's disappearance.

Steve Powell had a sexual obsession with Susan Powell and thoroughly documented it in journals seized by police. Officers investigating her disappearance searched his home.

Police in Utah have said they do not believe Steven Powell was directly involved with Susan Powell's disappearance but may know more about it than he has let on.

Police said both Steven and Michael Powell were uncooperative in the investigation.
