Mistakenly released Ore. inmate back in custody

PORTLAND, Ore. - An inmate who was accidentally released from the Multnomah County Jail this week has turned himself in.
Stephen Jamaal Reed, 22, an Oregon Department of Corrections inmate at the Oregon State Penitentiary, was being held at a Multnomah County jail because he was due to appear in court on pending charges.
He was mistakenly released from the jail and authorities had been trying to track him down until he turned himself in at about 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Reed was in the penitentiary on drug charges - cocaine possession and heroin delivery - and had been there since May 2, 2012.
Authorities were alerted to the mistake by an anonymous caller who told the Oregon Department of Corrections that Reed was free.
KATU archives show that this wasn't the first time that a person has been mistakenly released from custody in Multnomah County. Back in 2006, a sex offender was released when he wasn't supposed to be. He was later recaptured.

"Mistakenly released Ore. inmate back in custody". I don't like the title of this article. By reading that title, I get this message:Â "Mistakenly released Ore. inmate back in custody after good police work". Maybe it's just me that feels that way by it.
The title just seems like by saying "back in custody" that they are brushing off the jail's mistake. The guy turned himself in...no brownie points for the jail. You got your inmate back because he chose to turn himself in.  This mistake better not be taken lightly.
he missed his free medical/tv/internet?
maybe he couldn't find a place to sleep and was getting hungry...
Im thinkin they said "okay you've been released" or bailed out and he thought he really had. Saw himself on the news yesterday and turned himself back in. Just a thought.
I'll give him 1/2 a point for turning himself in. Maybe he now knows how it feels to do a good and responsible thing.
@Beau's Mom I'd give him way more than 1/2 point. He could have enjoyed a bit of freedom and let the state pay tons of money trying to find him. Credit given where credit i due.
WOW! At least some convicts have some backbone! Well, they got lucky this time, but maybe not next time since it could be a cop killer or another nutcase who could go on another rampage. DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN!
I sure hope that all you Saints , who have never done anything illegal, who trashed him on this site yesterday realize what true ASS's you are ! Instead of bashing the inmate, you should have been bashing the people who allowed him to be released! Anybody would get out of jail if they are released by mistake! (Duh!)
Sometimes people are released by mistake so they can be recaptured with a good knockout dragout fight. I hope he changes his ways and stops selling smack.  If it was just coke he would have fewer problems.
I mean, obviously he's a drug dealer and probably no help to society in any way but I respect him for turning himself in and I hope that factors into his sentencing...if he'd committed a violent crime, I'd definitely not be saying this but drug possession is something you could level at almost every single successful actor/musician in history.Â
Why should turning himself in be a factor in sentencing? His release has zip to do with selling smack to kids and others. Some of whom die from smack.
He did the right thing. Probably knew this would end up being a man-hunt & he would be shot onsite.
