Months later, man who was beaten with his own gun dies
SEATTLE -- Nearly eight months after he was attacked, a man who was being beaten with his own shotgun died on Thursday.
Police say on the night of July 22, the 48-year-old victim got into an argument with three men near Summit Avenue and E. Olive Street.
The man then left, but returned a short time later armed with a shotgun. While threatening to shoot the trio, someone in the group was able to wrestle the gun from the man.
That man then hit the victim with the gun, severely injuring him.
Officers arrived moments later, where they recovered the gun and detained the three men. Two of them were eventually released, while the third was booked for possession of drugs.
The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. He was then transferred to a long-term care facility, where he died on Thursday, according to police.
Homicide detectives are investigating the death, but police say they've "identified everyone involved in the incident and do not believe this was a random attack."

It should have ended with "The man then left,..."
This responsible gun owner can really only blame himself.
@lakeviewWow, you made it through one statement about guns without a scathing comment against the NRA. Hell must be freezing over...
8 months and no arrests? Yep thats the SPD for you.
@Blindman What are they supposed to arrest these guys for? This is a cut and dry case of selfe defence. 1) It is illegal to brandish a firearm in a threatening way. 2) it seems that this man, no matter the previous situation in the argument was intending to do bodily harm to the 3 other individuals. 3) they disarmed and subdued him in self defense.
That he died of his injuries has no bearing on the case and I doubt there will be any charges filed at all.
Sounds like a Darwin Award winner to me. Should have just let it drop.
Sounds like we need background checks and registration for ANY blunt object, crowbars and lead pipes come to mind. Anyone seen Professor Plum?
Molon labe indeed.
Ummm...he menaced other people with a gun...after leaving and coming back to the scene. Why not just leave and call the police!? I feel bad for his family but this was just a poor choice.Â
Now that's a self-defense killing involving guns that won't cost me a minute's sleep.
Why go back?Â
@sometimesright I agree, distance is your friend.
The guy went back into a bad situtation and brought his gun. He should have stayed away. He went back threatening to shoot the other guys and allowed them to disarm him. He should have stayed away. He got his dumb @zz beat to death with his own gun.... you know the drill. He should have stayed away.
In any situation, the only thing that will keep you alive is situational awareness. You could have the most expensive Wilson Combat on your belt, but that isn't going to save you if you are out of shape and unable to gauge the situation around you and react quickly. We did a training scenario once with civilians(using fake guns of course) and you would be surprised how many of them fumbled when pulling out their firearm or failing to keep a distance between themselves and the perp. If you really want to be safe, I suggest joining a Krav Maga class in addition to defensive gun training.
Well thank goodness he had a gun to defend...wait a minute...oh...never mind.
@Howard Beale He wasn't defending, he was offending by bringing the gun back to the group. He should have stayed home and called the police.
reap what you sow
Don't pull out a gun unless you are going to shoot. Â In this case, the guy should not have come back. Â If he would have left and taken some time to cool down he would be alive today. Â I am not saying his death is justified, those who attacked him should be charged for his death, but he kind of brought this on himself.
@KRM66Â I dont know, if the man came back with a gun and threatened the guys and they disarmed him, wouldnt that be self defense? I'm not saying they should have beat him so badly, but honestly if they'd wanted him dead couldnt they have just shot him with the shot gun? Provided of course it was loaded...
@Susabelle @KRM66 What I was thinking.....the guy isn't a victim, he brought this on himself. He didn't deserve to die, but he came back to the scene with a gun in hand when he obviously could have left well enough alone.
