Motorcyclist killed in Hwy. 7 crash near Spanaway

SPANAWAY, Wash. - A motorcyclist was killed overnight when he crashed into a guardrail at high speed just south of Spanaway in Pierce County, the Washington State Patrol reports.

State troopers responded to the scene, on Highway 7 at the Roy "Y," at about 12:50 a.m. Friday after receiving a report of a serious accident.

The motorcyclist, a 23-year-old Texas man, was found dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation found that he was heading south on Highway 7 at high speed when he lost control of his 2013 Kawasaki ZX636 and slammed into a guardrail near the spot where Highway 507 branches off toward the town of Roy.

No one else was hurt in the crash.

The roadway was closed for nearly four hours as troopers investigated the crash.
