Mukilteo to appeal FAA decision on Paine Field

MUKILTEO, Wash. -- The city of Mukilteo will appeal the FAA decision allowing commercial flight usage of Paine Field.
The Mukilteo City Council made the decision on Monday night, according to Mukilteo Mayor Joe Marine, who told KOMO Newsradio lawyer hired by the city will file the appeal in federal court.
A Federal Aviation Administration study determined that commercial flights would not significantly increase noise, traffic or pollution in the area. Paine Field is located in Everett but borders Mukilteo.
The airport is owned by Snohomish County and is largely used by Boeing and other aerospace operations.

60 years ago in the 50s the area wasn't nearly as built up with residences, streets, and businesses. Probably one of the reasons it was appropriate for an airbase back then! I can see how the people who have set up their lives near there would not be thrilled to deal with potential of major air traffic going overhead all day and night. If something moved near to your home area that didn't benefit you directly, would be disruptive, and could make it more difficult to sell your home for the $$ you had expected you may not be as excited that it might provide Convenience to someone else. Show some grace and cut them some slack while they adjust. Really there was never any chance that the FAA would not approve the use of the space for commercial flights - it's what they DO. Talk about a "fixed fight"! My question is why Everett - seems like Olympia and south would need the convenience more than the north sound area.  I'm sure the answer if that it benefits Boeing --and we know that western WA and even the FAA must bow for the B.Â
Paine field was formerly a USAF base and during the 1950s was the home of F-89 Scorpion
interceptors.
F-89 engines had afterburners and were therefore extremely louder than any subsonic
commercial aircraft. One other benefit is that commercial aircraft do not carry nuclear
air to air missiles as the F-89s did, ergo no threat of a nuclear accident there now
like the past presented.
Â
This is a clearly a case of NIBY as is clearly shown by the field history of being much louder
in the past than any of the aircraft in general use today.
I read they have 250K in the coffers to battle this. Where did that money come from, hey Joe where did that money come from!
Mukilteo won't even notice ANYTHING because they're down the hill from the airport...this will be a boost to the economy. I hate NIMBYs...I wish they'd all go move back to California.
@Donkey Kong Couple things... I do live in Mukilteo, and your thinking of old city Mukilteo which is down the hill... Where city hall is and a big chunk of Mukilteo is located, jets take off right over the city... with that being said... I think they should allow commercial jets to fly out of here still. Like you said, it will boost the economy and create more jobs, etc... I travel a lot, and would love to fly out of Everett if given the chance.
HAHAHA Â Idiot. Â Forget the business it could bring to the surrounding areas, the convenience of not having to go through heck to get to SeaTac... I want to piss and moan about an airport being used for what it is, an airport. Â I'm going to highly doubt the same planes they see day in and day out (Dreamliners, etc) will be the commercial planes used.
Seems like every little poobah and NIMBY wants to push things else where and use delaying tactics that end up only costing us more and more money for what they will only delay and not stop. I can appreciate the fact that they are trying to restrict air traffic from Pane Field, but it is, has been and will be an airport and eventually will have regular commercial air traffic going through it. Suck it up folks and enjoy the music.
That music is the sound of jet and turboprop engines....and it sounds like JOBS AND MONEY.
Â
Unless those whining about the airport use expanding are willing to give up their job for someone who wont have one if not for the expansion....Remember...its a small fraction more of what we already have with BFG, Boeing and others on the field.
