2 wounded in shooting at Central District bar; gunman dead
SEATTLE -- Two people were wounded by a gunman at a bar in Seattle's Central District Sunday night, and the gunman was later killed by Seattle police officers.
More than two dozen people were in the Twilight Exit when the shooting occurred around 10:15 p.m., Seattle police said.
The gunman had come to the bar looking for his ex-girlfriend, police said. An argument ensued and the man pulled out a gun, firing several shots. The woman was struck multiple times and a bouncer, described as a man in his 30s, was also wounded. Both were rushed to a local hospital but were expected to survive, police said.
Investigators said when Seattle police officers arrived on the scene and began to enter the bar, they ran into the gunman as he tried to exit. The gunman raised his gun and fired one shot before officers returned fire and fatally wounded him, police said. No officers were hurt.
Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots.
"I parked my car and got out and you hear two gun shots," said witness Becky Goodwin. "All of a sudden you could hear someone screaming, and I started running towards my house and about 15 people started running this way screaming and crying."
She said she got into her home and called police.
"About 30 seconds later, all these police cars started coming and we heard five more shots and that was the end of it."
Witnesses said the gunman had been at the bar earlier in the night, left, then came back with the gun about 20 minutes later.
The gunman and the ex-girlfriend had a child together and witnesses reported he made some comments that he might have injured the child. Police rushed to the home where the child lived but found the child was safe and not hurt.
Police are still investigating the incident. The gunman has not been identified.

I would like every jacka** out there who comments on stories about women "making bad choices" by staying in abusive relationships to read this story and process it. Maybe next time they will put even half a slice of thought in before they open their mouths, about how hard it might be to dump someone who will quite literally grab a gun and go on a shooting spree after being dumped. I mean, they probably won't, since the people making those comments pretty obviously have extremely low mental capacities, but one can always hope.
to all those comediennes out there talking about how could this happen after seattle just did a gun buy back this is exactly what they are trying to stop....
Â
Had these foolish people gotten rid of their guns there is a good chance this domestic violence incident might never have happened.
Â
But like sandy hook there are so many people with guns it makes getting your hands on one very easy.
Â
THAT is the problem. Â It's not gangsters it's average every day people who do these mass shootings.
Â
They become infamous AFTER the fact but go under the radar right up until the day of
 @sunnysandiego  2013 Darwin Award Winner.......
@sunnysandiego A person who commits who commits violence will do so whether they have access to guns or not. I can't tell you how ignorant your comments sound. Going to ban knives too? Firearms don't make people more predisposed to violence just like a car doesn't make you more like to drink and drive.Â
Â
But hey what do I know, I have only been a cop and dealt with this first hand.
@seattleemt yes but like virginia tech good luck killing 30 plus people without a gun....
Â
Â
 @sunnysandiego  @seattleemtÂ
Sunnysandiego - If the nut jobs out there want to commit evil acts, they will. The school disaster with the most fatalities was the Bath School disaster. The suspect used a home made bomb and killed and killed forty three innocent children and teachers. (Yes, I know this was in 1927, but guns were readily available then as well.)
Â
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bath_School_disaster
Â
Let's also not forget the Oklahoma City bombings. McVey also used a bomb.
Â
The 911 planes were hijacked with box knives.
Â
A lot of serial killers do not use fire arms.
Â
Take a breath....disarming law abiding people who chose to exercise the second amendment right, is not going to stop crazies from killing. I do not have all the answer, but I think redirecting A LOT of resources to the mental health field will accomplish more then banning weapons.
Â
U R AN IDIOT! Go back to sunny San Diego.
 @sunnysandiegoÂ
ROTFLOL!
Sandy Hook, and Aurora Co were "your idea" of "average every day people". Do you hang around at the nut house? In the last while there has been somewhere north of 100 people killed in NY city by being pushed in front of a subway train. Were those who pushed these victims some of your average every day people too?
@Alex Clayton Maybe "apparently average, every day" would've been a better wording.  If you happen to know the next 100 people to do this, perhaps you could email that list to the police?
If this is your typical little gang banger club and these were all your typical little gang bangers who have never contributed to our society except for an arrest record then I can say good at least they are killing each other!!
@tkyed mostly hipsters at this place and Seattle U students....definitely not a gang banger club
@yeahguy Well then I think it is terrible. Thanks for clarifying. some people might say it shouldn't make a difference but to me it does.
@tkyed This was NOT a gang banger. Know your facts before you open your mouth.
I said "if". Learn to ready before you comment!!!
Then you have no problem with tyked's comments. The verb tense is not in any way a requirement for a conditional statement. Broken down into a logical syllogism, the comment is:
Â
IF A is true
THEN B is true
Â
Your "correction" implies that tyked knows this is NOT your typical little gang-banger club, and should have stated his premise (the IF statement) accordingly. It is fairly safe to assume, however, that Tyked does NOT know whether or not the premise is true - hence his phrasing it as a conditional premise, not a statement of fact.
Â
The use of a past participle results in a completely different statement than the one tyked intended to make, and was succesful in making.
@tkyed  Too difficult for you? You should have said "If this had been your typical little gang banger club..." instead of "If this is your typical little gang banger club..." Â
Â
Btw, I have no problem with your comments besides your usage of grammar.
@tkyed  "I said "if". Learn to ready before you comment!!!"Â
Â
Then, use the grammar correctly. You should have used the past participle for statement of supposition using "IF"
"Gaygun" has it right. Â The comments blaming this on the 'gun buyback' program make zero sense. Â
Â
1- Those programs dont even take a moderate fraction of guns off the street.
Â
2- What does one of those things have to do with the other?
Â
3- If you see "Several people shoot, 2 dead" in a story and your first response is= "Great, the anti-gun crowd is going to love this" - you have a lot to learn about being a decent human being.
Â
@salishan Blaming it on the buy back was a joke that started last nite go back to sleep
@salishan  You aren't actually trying to "reason" with these people are you?Â
No doubt the cops will be blamed somehow. This is Seattle after all.Â
 @jdoll88 ??? What?
Â
Cops get blamed when they are caught on tape lying in reports on arrests or assaulting nonaggressive civilians for no reason.
Â
Â
@salishan @jdoll88 What planet have you been on? The cops are constantly critiqued on absolutely everything that they do. My guess is the family of the shooter has already lawyered up and is ready to sue the city because their beloved family member was gunned down by the mean old SPD. Hopefully he was a whitey and not a minority.Â
@tkyed Wouldn't be nice if we held politicians to the same standard as cops. Then maybe our country would not be heading down the toilet. I would trust a cop anyday over some elected official.
@K. Coleman Huh! In this city of Political Correctness a minority is given more preferential treatment than a white guy. Don't forget the Tuba Man killer. If it had been a white guy doing the killing he would be doing hard time in Monroe, not given a 2nd and 3rd chance. Skin color makes a huge difference sir and to suggest otherwise is naive. My comment was not racist, it was fact.
@salishan @jdoll88 Yes some cops are disgusting you are absolutely right BUT only some. I have no clue where you work but I am sure not everyone is 100% perfect and commited to their jobs. There are crooked people in every profession, race and just about everything else in this world.
@lakeunion  @jdoll88  @salishan True. I don't see Andrew Woods jumping in with his smears on the SPD lately. Andrew, did you change your name?
@jdoll88  @salishan They are critiqued when they are caught beating innocent blacks and mexicans, or shooting unarmed native americans, or peppar spraying 80 year old women, or kicking pregnant women who were just mugged in the stomach, assaulting gay people during a capitol hill gay parade or beating their wives. Not to mention hiding 10,000 hours of dashcam footage of officers doing things they lied about in reports.
Â
Those are all things that a public tax funded, armed entity like the SPD SHOULD be criticized.
Â
Lets not try and scapegoat any of this. Â The SPD were caught lying in reports via countless videos (all available on youtube), not to mention the DOJ reported that they have a massive racism, sexism and accountability problem.
@jdoll88 What?  Please explain what difference the skin color makes in your assessment.  That "appears" racist (my opinion).  I personally could care less what his skin, hair or eye color was. It's a persons ACTIONS & CHARACTER that define them.  The caliber of a man is not how he looks, but how he behaves and treats others.Â
@jdoll88  @salishan You are 100% correct jdoll.  KOMO and some scumbag lawyer will team up to smear SPD again....just give them time.Â
Looks like someone forgot to trade in their gun for a gift certificate.
Looks like the right person was killed. I don't know what instigated it in the first place (and I don't care), but for someone to think its ok to go into a public place and start shooting people is demented and society is safer and better off without people like that.
Oh BTW, bars are "Gun Free" zones.
@TreeTopFlyer  That's why he left and came back with the gun. :)Â
The bulk of the comments on this story are all about the gun issue, the gun buy-back program, etc. Fair enough I suppose, but this incident has very little to do with any of that, in my opinion. All of the proposed changes being discussed would have no impact on what took place here. None. This was an incident where one angry guy sought out his ex, found her, went back and got a gun (we don't know if it was legally registered to him or not) and shot her in a bar with 20-odd other people present. No new law or ordinance would have prevented this. It will go on for decades, perhaps millennia, until humans evolve beyond where we are today. The sad parts are the wounded, the child of the perp and victim, and the emotional trauma experienced by innocent people enjoying a night spot minding their own business. It really has NOTHING to do with gun law or the recent buy-back program. It's amusing to me that people on both sides of the gun control issue jump all over this as if their view would have made any difference. Think about it. It would not and will not.
Â
@OldGayGuy --- "No new law or ordinance would have prevented this. It will go on for decades, perhaps millennia, until humans evolve beyond where we are today." Wait, what? I'm pretty sure the anti-gun left want me to believe the opposite. If you get rid of all legally owned guns (good luck getting the illegally owned ones), and you pass a bunch of new laws that ban this and that, then gun violence will go away. so, you mean to tell me that PEOPLE are actually the problem. Got it! Thanks.
@OldGayGuy It does, and it's weird that you, as a gay person (the LGBT community is one of the highest in terms of conceal carry licenses and gun ownership for very good reasons: persecution) would try to deny it.Â
 @NWCoin  @OldGayGuyÂ
Gun buy backs do nothing to help this...... 100 bucks for a 750 pistol? I think not.
While reading this story, the only thing I could think of was what did the ex do to push this man overboard? I also find it sad that there is now another child with no dad. I hope this child will be able to find a positive role model to look up to, and be able to move on in life with grace.Â
@Just my say I'll not jump to conclusions on this one.  Scenarios can go two different directions...  For example: he *MIGHT* have been an angry control freak wanting to run every aspect of her life.  She *MAY* have finally said something like. "Hit the road Jack."  Some guys do not handle rejection well, some guys get defensive and all bent out of shape when things do not go their way.  All we DO KNOW is that he had anger issues and could not control his temper (a valid reason why he was the EX boyfriend).  So no, I'll not jump to any conclusions or blame the woman for 'setting the guy off''. Â
@K. Coleman  @Just my say I dont think he was trying to victimize the victim, but really just stating that there is more to the story then we have.
@Jalharad  @K. Coleman  @Just my sayWas she pointing a gun at him when he shot her? No, she wasn't. Period. And to say otherwise, is to try to justify murder or attempted murder. Find another more civilized way to deal with your anger and your issues. The bulk of society seems to manage it quite well; otherwise, we'd be living in utter chaos.
@Just my say Without any facts whatsoever, you are poised to blame the victim? After some lunatic shot her? Way to go. No bias there. I hope you're not in the legal profession.
@SusieQ Here is the facts that are in the story. 1. He knew where she was at. I assume that he posed no threat to her and her or someone else would have told him her whereabouts. 2. Something happen for him to get so mad to want to kill her. He was not sitting around watching sponge bob and decided to take a drive to kill her. 3. They are both to blame. 4. There is always more to the story. 5. The story will be molded into her being the victim for much more, now that there is no other side.Â
@Jalharad  @thatsjarrod  @Just my say I don't care how angry you are. If your way of resolving a conflict with another person is to shoot them, you are a cold blooded murderer. Period. There is no gray area here.
Â
I don't care what she said to him or did to trigger him or didn't serve him for breakfast, but if this idiot went back home, told her he'd harmed their child, came back and shot her and another innocent person, HE, and only HE is to blame for his irrational actions. Period.
@thatsjarrod  @Just my say  @SusieQ actually they are facts. Nobody, I mean NOBODY just goes off. There is always a trigger. so 1). he knew where she was at (i have no idea what the 2nd sentence was supposed to mean)2). Something happened to make the guy angry3). There are two sides to the story, communication goes both ways4). There is some of the story we are not hearing (because the guy is now dead)5). Because we can only hear one side of the story, the victim is the only voice and so the story will reflect that.Seems factual to me.Â
@Just my say  @SusieQ Judging by your questionable grammar i can only assume you are from another country so i'll give you a pass on being a complete idiot. But your first sentence is, "Here is the facts that are in the story", then you proceed to babble 5 "points", none of which has anything to do with any facts in the story whatsoever.
@SusieQ  @Just my say I don't think that @Just my say is saying what you verbalized. We as a society have to come to terms with both sides of violence to stop violence. Violence is not just a physical act. Americans right now seem to be focused on guns being the root cause of violence but it is much deeper than just a inanimate object. Just ask people in the UK if banning guns has lowered the violence. What this guy did is completely wrong in many ways but until we understand where or what triggered his outburst of violence we will never see and never have a chance of ending violence in America.Â
@Just my say Dude, seriously? What you're saying is that sometimes it's ok to shoot unarmed people that you're in a relationship with? Wow. Seriously scary scary. A gun is NEVER the answer to your domestic problems. And he also shot up and put innocent people in harm's way. Said he'd hurt their child. But yeah, they're both to blame for this sick dirtbag's behavior. Wow.
Kudos to the SPD for taking care of this!!
