Murder charge filed in brutal North Seattle stabbing

SEATTLE -- Prosecutors have filed charges against a man accused of stabbing two people, one fatally, over the weekend.

Austin E. Spearman, 51, has been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder in the incident that occurred at his North Seattle home on Dec. 3.

Investigators said Spearman stabbed his roommate and the roommate's fiancee as the two slept in their home in the 13500 block of Linden Ave. N. just after 1:30 a.m. Spearman had posted an eviction notice on his bedroom doors just hours prior to the incident, according to the statement of probable cause.

Spearman's roommate survived the attack, but his fiancee, who had been stabbed at least 20 times, did not survive.

Spearman fled the scene, but was arrested minutes later in the 800 block of N. 137th St. after he identified himself to an inquiring officer searching the area.

Spearman is being held on $5 million bail. If convicted, Spearman faces up to 50 years in prison.
