SEATTLE - The U.S. Navy's Blue Angels flight team will return to Seattle's Seafair celebration next summer with air shows over Lake Washington during the hydroplane races on the first weekend in August.

The military canceled the Blue Angels' show this past summer because of forced budget cuts.

The Seafair organization said the Blue Angels announced their schedule Tuesday at a convention in Las Vegas. The squadron also plans to perform in Seattle at the 2015 Seafair.

The Angels are scheduled to peform Friday, Aug. 1, through Sunday, Aug. 3, in 2014. Performances in 2015 are set for Friday, July 31, through Sunday, Aug. 2.

The return of the Blue Angels is due to an outreach plan which secured funding for community-based military activities, including flights of the Blue Angels and Fleet Week in Seattle.

This past August, Seafair attendance was down 27 percent - due in large part to the absence of the Blue Angels.
