No charges against mayor, officers in city of Pacific dust-up

PACIFIC, Wash. - No criminal charges will be filed over allegations of misconduct by the embattled mayor of the city of Pacific and police officers who arrested him in July at City Hall, says the King County Sheriff's Office.
The decision not to file criminal charges comes following independent investigations by the Sheriff's Office and the Washington State Patrol into the dust-up between Pacific Mayor Cy Sun and his own police force, said King County sheriff's spokeswoman Cindi West.
Sun was accused of destroying public records, assaulting employees and intimidating a public servant. He was arrested in July when he attempted to enter the City Clerk's office as news photographers captured the action live.
The Pacific police officers were accused of violating police procedures regarding the treatment of individuals in custody.
Following the arrest and allegations, Pacific City Council President Leanne Guier made a formal request to the Sheriff’s Office to conduct an independent investigation.
The Sheriff's Office investigated the alleged misconduct by the mayor, and the Washington State Patrol looked into the alleged misconduct by police officers.
Following an extensive investigation, the Sheriff’s Office submitted its findings to the King County Prosecutor's Office. After reviewing the investigation, the Prosecutor's Office determined that no charges would be filed due to a lack of evidence that a crime was committed.
The State Patrol also completed its portion of the investigation. After a review by prosecutors, it was determined there is no evidence to justify proceeding with criminal charges against any of the officers.
The decisions follow months of long-simmering tensions between Sun, members of the city council and Sun's opponents who accuse him of abusing power in the small town on the King-Pierce county line.

Clarify:Â The King County Sheriff announced there was NO EVIDENCE of Mayor Sun having done any wrongdoing, NOT the "spin" there wasn't enough.
Â
Pacific has 6606 residents. Take out the 0 and the explanation of Pacific is clear 666.
Â
Of 6606 residents, the opposition includes ALL of them THOUSANDS of children, teenagers under 18, and unregistered in their fuzzy math to screw with the facts.
Â
Out of 1,157 Pacific voters that BOTHERED TO VOTE - MORE THAN A THIRD OF VOTERS VOTED FORÂ WRITE IN CANDIDATE MAYOR SUN IN A 3 WAY RACE.
Â
Voters had to:  HAND WRITE IN CY SUN. on the line, AND KNOW ENOUGH TO CHECK THE BOX, off to the left, TO MAKE IT LEGAL. Voters made SURE to elect Mayor Sun BY DOING THE WRITE IN CORRECTLY AND MADE HISTORY.
Â
There were 2 other candidates, both still disgruntled losers - a council president and two term mayoral incumbent.
Â
Get over it will ya? Your desperation is stinking up the courtrooms.
Â
Â
This is like sooooooo no fun. Our 82 year old mayor is kicking your butts. Did you really think him being 82 made him less intelligent than a younger man? Sun has the experience of a war hero and the dedication and fortitude to see this through to clean up all the corruption. Of course if you even get your recall authorized - which I highly doubt now that the King County Prosecutor has ruled there is NO evidence of all that wrongdoing you accused Mayor of - of course Mayor will appeal to the Supreme Court. I would. I'd appeal to hell's gate to give the voter's time to smell the stink on all of you.
Good Lord KOMO use another picture will you? Your bias is showing. At least KIRO doesn't inflame the issue in favor of the mayor's opponents (the corrupt) by using this same old photo. You might actually get an interview with the old guy who keeps winning and standing tall after accusation after accusation.Â
WE purposely wrote in Cy Sun and checked the box to make it count to change the way Pacific has been run. None of you can or will admit that for over 400 voters to take the time and effort to do that is historic. The DQ harpy just twists the facts. Well, Ms. Harpy and Mr. Thompson is "this" doing the trick for you? You're awful quite. How do you think court will go Tuesday when Sun's attorney brings the issue of the King County Prosecutor ruling there is NO evidence of all those nasty allegations. This is so reminiscent of ousted ex mayor hildreth (doesn't deserve a capital h) and his murdering pal/councilmember Hulsey claiming Mayor didn't have ALL THOSE WAR MEDALS. Hmmmm once again more accusations proven false. HA HA HA. Pacific voters know/knew EXACTLY what they were/are doing.
@711 Cares Maybe they will use a new picture when you stop saying the same things over and over again. Also, LACK of evidence. Does not say NO evidence. Those are two different things whether you want to believe that or not.Â
@striker9 Okay smart guy. Kiro reported the King County Prosecutor stated there was no evidence of wrongdoing for any of the ridiculous charges - not lack of. Either way lack of or no evidence means they are full of BS and you are still reaching. Do what I did, call up the prosecutor's office and ask them yourself. They will tell you in a several months long intensive investigation alleging (not proving) wrongdoing that the Sheriff's department did not find one piece of evidence to support a case against our Mayor. Is that clear enough for you.Â
Judging from news accounts there or some other elected officials and a police department that have their own self-serving agendas.
it sure appears that the people of pacific are not capable of governing themselves. They used the election to make a statement and put someone in as mayor that has no more idea how to do the job than the man on the moon. A vocal group in Pacific routinely criticize the police and city council with unfounded allegations. The city should be unincorporated and let the county have jurisdiction.
@memory9 Mayor Sun knows exactly what he is doing. I can assure you of that. Pacific has always been ruled by a select group with their own selfish agendas and the police department is included in that. The only unfounded accusations are/where those against the mayor and the King County Prosecutor has just concluded there is no evidence of any wrongdoing by the mayor. So twist in the wind. You'll find out, but you already know your post is BS - your just hoping others won't.
I fail to see the story in this.... seems to me it's another case of limp wrist pamper me city council types getting their little noses rubbed in the carpet poop stain! Obviously someone forgot that children that still ride big-wheels shouldn't be police officers!
KOMO really? You think maybe your station has overdone this picture. Maybe, just maybe you could find another pic? As for Ken Schram, I'm laughing so hard my junk hasn't seen this much action in years. COME ON DOWN KEN COME ON DOWN DUDE. Way to go Pacific voters. We know you can't "come out" without being afraid of being the target of rumor, false arrest, ridiculous police investigations, but YOU came through with your ballots. So many of you correctly voting for a "write in." You made history. Keep your chin up boys and girls. Mayor's moving back into his office and he's taking no crap. All will be exposed. Former Mayor Hildreth life goes on without you. Poor dear.
Luce short term acting attorney take notice: Your desperate attempts at harassing city employees who want nothing to do with your political agenda has been reported. Firkins will kick your ass. But, this harassing of city employees trying to get them to write declarations against the mayor . . . well I'm sure the judge and Firkins will make fine use of those tactics. Pack your bags fatso
So if there was "a lack of evidence that a crime was committed", on what grounds was the Mayor arrested? I understand that the State Patrol "determined there is no evidence to justify proceeding with criminal charges against any of the officers" but does that excuse the officers and the City of Pacific from a Civil Suit of false imprisonment and unlawful detainment?Â
@scared_citizen Mayor was arrested because he wanted to get back into HIS office which he had been letting the city clerk use, but she was on an extended leave and she didn't want to give up that office. Good luck Jane. You are NEVER coming back. EVER. You have no basis for a suit against the mayor or the city.Â
Even with the Writ the judge said he's not going to tell the mayor how to do his job AND that would include which candidates to bring forth to the city council for confirmation. The Writ backfired big time cause now if the city council doesn't confirm all mayor has to do is show resume's and qualifications of rejections and the council will be under court order. NO WAY will you be brought forth and there is not a dam thing the city council can do about it.
You screwed yourself fired clerk Jane. You and Picket and he's out $900 bucks. Nobody, no city, no private corporation will ever hire you Jane. You get on tv slamming your BOSS accusing him of what the prosecutor says there is NO evidence of and you filed an antiharrasment order against former mayor Erickson and didn't even bother to show for the court hearing YOU requested, so that gets dropped. OMG dumb. Jane Montgomery has NO CREDIBILITY. NONE.
You were an at will employee, who wasn't even certified as a city clerk, You are a liar and a loser. Try coming back. Just try. No one wants you and you are an idiot.
You should have just done your job instead of trying to play mayor. You would still have a job if you had kept your snotty nose out of what was not your business and not tried playing politics.
No evidence of any wrongdoing by the mayor - that's what the prosecutor determined after a LENGTHY sheriffs investigation. Wow how's that gonna work out for your civil suit hon? How can you be a whisleblower and claim protection under that act when there was NO wrongdoing. You going to accuse the King County Prosecutor of wrongdoing, now?
@scared_citizen A civil suit and formal firing of these officers is in the works lol. As for fired chief Calkins, he just walked back in, not being re-hired by the mayor and Calkins will be formally escorted back out soooon. As for fird acting attorney Luce. That weasel will be out on his rear very soooon, as well. Mayor fired city attorney Luce, more than 30 days elapsed and the council said "come on back dirty attorney we need your help with our dirty games and we will call you a contract employee." So Luce has been illegally acting as the city attorney.
Oh ya, now that the prosecutor has ruled there is NO evidence of any wrong doing by the mayor which was the whole premise for the recall, I wonder how tuesday's court date will go for weasel Luce. There goes the malfeseance and misfeasance claims, lol. In WA you don't get a recall just because some dairy queen princess who lives in bonney lake wants one.
Told you so - - - The recall petition will also fail - this in spite of Councilmember Josh Putnam submitting a Declaration in the Superior Court action against Mayor Sun. Â To be expected from self-labled-politically-neutral-roll-his-eyes-at-everything-the-Mayor-says-and-does Putnam.
@ScaredinPacific Putnam's declaration is nothing but hearsay and opinion and self motivated BS.Just like all the others. The entire city council could not handle what they considered a little old man write in candidate being mayor. It shocked them and they went for the kill and they will lose. They twist numbers and facts. Seriously, over 400 registered voters correctly wrote in Cy Sun's name on the ballot and remembered to check the box, too. That's amazing. The voters chose a soldier to fight a war. Yes, I said a war. The citizens of Pacific are sick and tired of the close knit political group and their BS. The citizens in the privacy of their homes wrote Cy's name on the ballot BECAUSE they knew they could make that choice without being targeted.Â
@711 Cares Putnam needs to take a step back, and really become "politically neutral" as he describes himself. I have called him out a couple of times here on KOMO and other sites. When he LIKES a post that is negative about our Mayor, then he is not politically neutral. When he submits declarations in the Recall fight, he is not politically neutral. He and the other councilmembers (I haven't said murderer councilmember yet) are part of the problem and not the solution.
Be sure and tune in for the next installment of "As the City of Pacific Turns". Where are the cameras? This is a reality show I would watch.
@Petwlkr LOL!!!! Someone should contact "E" or "TLC"! You are right, this could be interesting. Anything has to be better than the stupid housewives shows!
Such drama for a little town.
@mstipton When the ocean is small the sharks control UNTIL the little fish finally fight back and elect a leader who just keeps on ticking.
Little town syndrome maybe? ;-)
