No charges for alarming Facebook post

CAMAS, Wash. -- A parent who posted an alarming Facebook message on Tuesday night will not face any criminal charges, officials said Thursday.
Jeff Berni, the 39-year-old parent of a Skyview basketball player, called his actions "stupid" and apologized when he spoke to Camas police and Clark County sheriff's deputies, police said.
Berni was apparently frustrated after a boys' basketball game between Skyview High School and Camas High School when he posted the status update sometime on Tuesday evening.
The post said: “Camas fans!!!!! Worst in the league!!!!! I hope someone shoots up their school really soon!!!!!!!!”
The post followed a confrontation after the game between Berni and a group of students, said Josh Gibson, Camas School District's athletic director.
Camas High School's principal notified police, who launched an investigation.
Camas police said Thursday they will not recommend criminal charges against Berni.
"While Berni's actions were alarming, his actions did not reach the level of a criminal action," a Camas Police Department press release said.
One of the charges that prosecutors were considering -- harassment -- involves making a direct threat to a specific person and causing "reasonable fear."
"It’s not against the law to wish harm on somebody else,” said Camas police Sgt. Scott Boyles.
The father is barred from coming onto Vancouver School District property and Camas School District property, school officials said.
Both police and school leaders said they found Berni's post especially alarming in light of the recent shootings across the nation.
FREEDOM OF SPEECH, no matter how much I hate it.
This guy's a moron without any kind of common sense but not a criminal. If anything he deserves to get smacked in the mouth 1 really good time.
horrible thing to say, but filing charges for saying something like that especially when it isn't a threat would be even more horrible than what he said
Deleting the truth again komo? Integrity in journalism is dead.
 @komoispropaganda:Â
Huh?
I think it was disrespectful of the poor families of the victims in Sandy Hook. Using their tragedy as a classless comment.
.I only have one thing to say to this moron, a Forest Gump quote: Stupid is as stupid does!
well there is no law against being stupid if there was. half the nation and all of the government would be on death row.
@Exiled_Patriot half the nation and "all" of the government huh? Wow.
Can't charge him with anything because he didn't break the law. Doesn't mean he isn't an idiot though.
Glad the school district is taking proper action against this dumb jackass.
I hope the son will not be treated any differently than usual by classmates or school officials. This has to be so embarrassing for him.Â
@Just my say Are you kidding? This is a public school. OF COURSE HE WILL! That's how it works.
@slappywag Your probably right, but hopefully parents will talk to their children and let them know what is going on and not make this boy feel any worse. It all starts with parents doing the right thing, or teaching their children the right thing.Â
"No charges for alarming Facebook post" Â Wow, what a shock. Â Freedom of speech actually prevailed. Â Who would have thunk it!?
@sfvcyco Did it? He's barred from going on to public property to public events and he did nothing wrong.
@sfvcycoThey uninvited him due to the confrontation on the school grounds, not the Facebook post.
