No charges for parents of baby buried in yard
OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - The Thurston County Sheriff's office is not referring criminal charges against the parents of a baby whose remains were unearthed in a yard in October.
Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock says a forensic anthropologist couldn't determine whether the baby was alive when the 16-year-old mother gave birth. Warnock says the anthropologist found no evidence the infant had suffered trauma.
Police have said that the mother told investigators the baby was stillborn, and that she and the infant's 16-year-old father buried the child near the father's home.
The Olympian newspaper says the mother disclosed the pregnancy to a high school nurse in October while being seen for an unspecified medical issue. The nurse notified authorities, and sheriff's deputies recovered the baby's remains in the home's front yard that day.

Isn't this illegal disposal of human remains or something like that?Â
I guess Bristol Palin did not visit that high school on her abstinance only tour.Â
So that's it? They found the body and they buy the mother's story, that's it? Yeah, sounds like there's more to this story that they don't even wanna investigate.
@Zoso More than likely there was an autopsy done on the deceased child where they found forensic evidence to support the mothers statement of it being stillborn and rather than wasting taxpayers money, left the knowledge of what she did with the mother. Losing a child is a punishment of its own especially for parent that young.
@Zoso I wouldn't say they bought the mother's story.  They investigated the death and could find no evidence to the contrary.  Good luck getting charges to stick with that.
Why would they even think of filing charges? Women have been buring their still born children in back yard graves for thousands of years. Why should that be different now?
@Magic 8 Ball Even the death of a still born is suppost to be reported. The difference is back when they didn't keep records like they do now and a still born child is still the body of a human being.
@JatokThe fact that someone did something without your express permission and approval upsets you, doesn't it?
Â
That anyone could act in a manner that they deem fit, without government oversight, just boggles your mind, eh?
Â
"But, but, but, it's supposed to be REPORTED!"
Â
"Reported" to whom? Â For what reason? So that the big corporations who write our laws could be satisfied that there was absolutely no way that they could have made money on the stillbirth?
Â
Thanks for clapping, Jatok, now here's your fish.
@Harry Balsagna Let me tell you something Mr. Know-it-all, years ago I held my full term still born infant in my arms and unless you've done that you don't have a clue how real that baby is even if it has no life. To just dig a hole in the ground and put the baby in it is beyond anything I can comprehend to begin with. Yes, it is suppost to be reported and that's usually done buy the attending medical personnel. Even back when my child passed it was necessary to fill out paperwork and perform an autopsy. There's a reason for the autopsy. Now, if you still choose to be beligerant do it somewhere else, you don't know a da-- thing about me or how I feel.
@Magic 8 Ball The police were trying to determine whether the baby had died from other circumstances. Fact is, these are 16 year old parents who failed to tell anyone about the pregnancy and then just buried the baby after it was born. Seem suspicious to you? It does to me.
@Tattooed_Angel Wouldn't you agree that there are a lot more still born babies than those who have been murdered (the abortion issue aside).
@Tattooed_Angel  @Magic it's more suspicious that the parents didn't notice their sixteen year old kid was pregnant. "That's" suspicious.
