TWISP, Wash. (AP) - The North Cascades Highway has reopened.

The Transportation Department raised the gates at noon Thursday. The scenic 37-mile section of Highway 20 had been closed by winter snow since Dec. 3.

Crews started clearing the highway this spring on March 31. They plowed their way their way through snow, up to 20 feet thick in places, using giant D-8 Caterpillars and other heavy equipment.
