Officer opens fire as stolen pickup rams patrol car in Clyde Hill

CLYDE HILL, Wash. - An officer opened fire early Saturday after the driver of a stolen pickup truck rammed a police cruiser and attempted to run over the officer in Clyde Hill, authorities said.
The maroon Dodge Ram pickup sped away as the officer fired at it, and it later crashed in the 1800 block of NE 96th Avenue. Two suspects inside the pickup then fled on foot.
The officer was not injured, said Clyde Hill Police Chief Bill Archer.
Police from Bellevue, Clyde Hill and Kirkland joined forces to investigate and search for the suspects.
One suspect was later found in the 9300 block of NE 14th Street and was identified as the passenger of the truck, Archer said. He was arrested and taken to Overlake Hospital Medical Center for treatment of a superficial gunshot wound to his arm. He was later booked into the King County Jail.
The driver of the truck was not located. He is described as a white male, 18 to 20 years old, standing about 5-feet-7-inches or 5-feet-8-inches, with platinum blond short hair, and wearing sweatpants and athletic type shoes.
An investigation found that the incident began earlier in the evening at a Woodinville residence, where the two suspects stole the pickup when it was left unattended with its engine running in the driveway.
Later there were several reports of a recklessly driven pickup truck which ultimately wound up in Clyde Hill.
Anyone who was information about the driver of the pickup is asked to call 911 and ask for the on-duty officer at Clyde Hill Police Department.

Hope the other POS is caught and charged with attempted murder and quickly sentenced to life in prison.. though honestly we shoudl be takign up stock on a island to ship this people off to...no escapes and they are away from the rest of us
More of the same in the greater Seattle area. Shootings, murders, rapes, etc. The place has really gone down hill in the last several years.
Â
The stealing of vehicles in our state has become a major problem too. This occurs commonly in the Seattle and Spokane areas. Â I myself had my old honda stolen a few years ago from the Mil Creek area despite having a clutch lock on it. Â I think our laws need to be toughened. Those guilty should be sentenced for a long time in prison. Some states also allow the vehicle owners who catch car thieves in the act to use deadly force much like a house being broken into. I wouldn't mind seeing this becoming law in this state. Â The trash needs to be taken out. There should be serious consequences for living a life of crime.Â
Growing up I lived out in Graham. We never locked our doors, we'd start our cars to warm up before we had to leave, and never worried about lowlife theives. My first real duty station was at Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls, Montana. Same went for there. We didn't need to lock our doors and never had to worry about our vehicles being stolen.
Â
When I moved back to Washington after my elistment was up, I couldn't believe how much things had changed. Your not safe anywhere anymore. One of my cars were broken into to and another time it was stolen. It took me some time to get into the habit of locking my doors.
Â
One thing I learned is DON'T keep anything valuable in your vehicles and DON'T lock your car doors. If the POS wants in your car bad enough, they will just bust a window. It costs me more to get the window fixed than the $5 in change they stole out of my center console. And don't bother with the police if your car is broken into. They won't do a damn thing.
@Tattooed_Angel Car prowls are an on line reporting thing now with the police in Seattle. How much are they going to garner from some broken glass and no one having seen anything? You are absolutely correct about not leaving anything even remotely worth stealing in your car in the first place.Â
@Citizen#3457899654 I actually lucked out in my case when my car was broken into. The sheriff came out and took a report and that was it. A few days after the break in I was talking with a neighbor out at the mailboxes. I told her about what happened and she said she would check her security camera footage. I didn't even know she had cameras!
Â
Sure enough, the camera caught the guy in the act. We recognized him as a punk from down the street and when I called the sheriff who took my report, it took him 4 DAYS to get back to me.
Â
When they finally picked up the jerk he was found with LOTS of stolen property. He was more than just some random car prowler. Police need to take everything more seriously because some lowlife car prowler might turn into one of the bad guys they are looking for.
Wow, happy the officers were not injured. Hope the passenger will give the police information about where to locate the perp. Maybe the perp will resist arrest; practice your target shooting officers, in case.
Isn't it just convenient that the cars that are left running always seem to be in the proximity of those wanting to steal them.... Hmmm.....
Maybe if insurance companies start denying claims for stolen vehicles when they are left running and unattended, then people will stop doing stupid stuff. Insurance rates are high enough already and stupid owners like this one will only complicate matters. Insurance companies already deny too many claims on technicalities.
@mustang sally I'm sorry - I can't seem to find an icon on my keyboard that depicts something going WAY over someone's head...
Glad that no police officers were badly injured in this incident, and that at least one of the suspects was apprehended. I find all the "come steal my 4wheel drive truck with gun rack and I'll hunt you down like I'm Dirty Harry" guys on here downright humorous. Go watch another episode of "Dog: Bounty Hunter" you goofballs... and leave reality to the grown-ups
@TruthinAdverts I take it the "grownups" you speak of are happy to just LET the thieves have their vehicles? Besides, WHY watch "Dog" when you can live it? Culling the tweaker herd, one bullet at a time.......
Hang em high!
Glad no officers were hurt. Now let's hope the guy makes the same mistake so officers can take him down!
....so why KOMO, why do you always use the term "opens fire"? How about , "Officer defends him/her-self ______"
Then you can use "fires at suspect" in the body of story.
Yes, I know, not as dramatic or attention getting, but a little more realistic.
@Sydthepiper You don't really think the media wants to make the police look good do you? By making the headline a self-defense act by officers, is a big no no.
@Sydthepiper Truth is Syd, I think we can all read between the lines rather well. Beside, that term maybe a little too conservative for the liberal media. :)
@Zoso The press is not liberal... it is corporate.  They do what is in their share holder's best interest.  If the press was liberal... we never would have went to war in Iraq!
Typical Clyde Hill
"An investigation found that the incident began earlier in the evening at a Woodinville residence, where the two suspects stole the pickup when it was left unattended with its engine running in the driveway."
Â
Abject stupidity and look at what it lead to...
I got "Do it yourself" tracking devices on both of my cars. Come steal one tweakers! A tweaker hunt would be fun this weekend.
"Dear truck thieves......I have a nice Dodge pickup sitting in my driveway, just WAITING for you to try to steal it. I WORKED pretty hard to buy it and pay it off, just like I WORKED pretty hard to be able to afford the GUNS I will use to SHOOT your ass if you try to take it. Here's a novel idea. Get a JOB, and WORK for what you want rather than stealing from us who do. Please bear in mind, that more and more of us are exercising our 2nd Amendment rights these days because of you, and are fed up with your lazy antics. If you like playing Russian Roulette, the game is less in your favor these days, but if you MUST play, play with me. I practice at the range for just such an occasion, and doubt I'd just wing you. Sincerely, Hard WORKING Joe American."
@LoudNoises I too am sick of punks stealing anyone's hard-earned possessions. These creeps need jobs, but they are probably HS dropouts and don't want to work for McDs.
@mustang sally  @LoudNoises Even McD's doesn't hire IDIOTS like this. They have a sense of responsibility to the community and try to prevent such morons from drooling in our food.
Definitely two from the shallow end of the gene pool
The really sad part of this is that there is an organization of attorneys who go out of their way to protect these punks, and our legislators are gutless wonders who are afraid of alienating the voters. Â So now we have out of control punks like this who are have no fear of stiff penalties for their actions. Â Until we demand that the laws are stiffer and put some teeth into the consequences this is going to continue. Â Three strikes and its life in prison? Â If you are a three time loser you are not going to change, lets just get rid of you...three strikes and you are executed. Â Sounds harsh yes, but it might make the some of these dirt bags rethink their actions and make a serious attempt to mend their was.
Â
The other option, lets take some of our mothballed carriers, pull them out into the ocean, remove the propellers, and anchor them... do a food drop once a month...no guards would be needed. Â They would have to maintain the systems on the carriers if they want to have fresh water, lights and other necessities of life. Â
Â
Stepping down off of my soap box.
@Circe ok... the "carrier" idea sounds wonderful, until actually implemented... Then a cottage industry springs up of speed boats and helicopters going out to pluck these guys off the carriers so as to help them escape... yeah... I know... next we'll provide patrol boats and helicopters armed to the teeth with kill orders for any non-authorized boat or helicopter entering the "no sail/fly" zone (it'll be sorta like "Escape from New York except there will be no Snake Pliskin)... Eventually some "off course" Japanese touring vessel will accidentally happen into said no sail/fly zone with a "made for movies" combination of radio failure and terrible timing... then there will be extensive lawsuits and posts to the KOMO news site from people just like yourself about what an absolutely TERRIBLE idea this "government prison carrier" program was. Plans like this are as predictable as cornflakes.Â
Here come the anti gun nuts. These criminal used a truck to assault an officer. So maybe just maybe we should ban trucks.Â
Hopefully the driver was hit by the officers shots and is bleeding out somewhere. I have had it with punk thieves.
We all have enough with this, those crooks have to be shoot !
