SUQUAMISH, Wash. -- One person died in a Monday afternoon house fire near Suquamish.

North Kitsap Fire & Rescue and Poulsbo Fire Department crews were called to a home on Balzow Road near its intersection with South Angeline Avenue at 12:30 p.m. after a neighbor noticed flames coming from the home.

Firefighters were able to quickly snuff out the flames, and when they went inside they immediately found a body. Crews weren't able to resuscitate the person, who has yet to be identified.

After 50 minutes of work, the crews had fully extinguished the fire, according to North Kitsap Fire & Rescue. The house sustained significant damage, and so far it's unclear what sparked the blaze.

Firefighters were able to track down two of the three dogs that lived at the home, and they believe the third ran away. It's unclear if the dogs were inside when the house caught fire.

A team from the Kitsap County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire.
