Ore. Humane Society nursing 149 dogs back to health after rescue
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Oregon Humane Society hopes to soon adopt out almost half of 149 dogs turned over to the Oregon Humane Society by their owners Tuesday after animal neglect charges were brought against the operators of a dog resuce.
OHS hopes to have 40-60 dogs ready for adoption in 2-3 weeks, according to spokesman David Lytle.
Sheriff’s deputies raided Willamette Valley Animal Rescue's warehouse in Brooks on Jan. 13. Many of the dogs seized were emaciated and suffered from ringworm, mange, eye infections and parasites, the responding agencies said.
Each of the three suspects arrested and charged in the case -- president Alicia Marie Inglish, 24; secretary Amanda Noelle Oakley, 19; and board member Merissa Marie Noonan, 21 -- faces more than 100 counts of animal neglect.
“We were extremely concerned that the rescued dogs would be caught in a legal battle for months without any possibility of adoption,” said OHS Executive Director Sharon Harmon. “Now that ownership of the pets has passed to OHS, we are going to place these dogs in new homes as soon as their health allows.”
OHS said more details about the upcoming adoptions will be posted on its website.
The dogs range in age from puppies to mature dogs, and include German shepherds, terriers and mixed breeds.
“Once these dogs get back to the road to health, we think their recovery will go even faster when they are with a loving family,” said Harmon.

Wow, those girls were so young to think that they could attempt to run a rescue with that number of dogs. Ever seen Pitbulls and Parolees? They have 200+ dogs and it takes lots of staff to make sure the dogs are properly fed, kennels clean, exercised. Plus I wouldn't even want to think about how much the vet bill would be with that many dogs.
Â
I don't know if the girls got in over their head or they just didn't care about the dogs but what makes me mad is that those dogs suffered. Look at the pictures! Those poor animals were starving.
Those poor dogs. Â Hope that they all recover and are adopted into loving homes.
people are created in God's image. they are more important. let a person go homeless and hungry, but save a dog. how stupid.Â
@harborgal These dogs were not saved. They were starved. Did you even look at the pictures?
Â
 @harborgal You are ridiculous.
Best of intentions gone awry. Tough lessons for these ladies and tough on the dogs. Hope they will all find a home.
all dogs go to heaven, their owners don't go with them.
@Cindertang dogs are not allowed in heaven. and yes it is in the Bible
 @harborgal  @Cindertang Then I'm not going.
@harborgal where ? please give scripture
 @harborgal  @Cindertang Can't be certain that God's creatures weren't revered before the council of Nicaea banished a whole lot of text from the original canon.  The Bible was written by humans and we know how flawed THEY are! LOL.
People make me sick.
Honestly, one wonders if these women got in over their head. Â The only other explanation is that they were doing it to scam money.. otherwise, it think it's an example of some young and clueless women who had more of a hoarder mentality, and were thriving on the ego boost when people heard about their rescues. Â
Those poor creatures. Stupid women. I hope they end up in prison.
