Ore. police: Seattle driver crashes head-on into car; 2 killed

WARRENTON, Ore. - Two people were killed Friday when a car driven by a Seattle man with a suspended license veered into the wrong lane of Highway 101 near Warrenton, Ore., slamming head-on into another car, officials said.

The Oregon State Police responded to the scene, about eight miles south of the Washington-Oregon border, at about 6:50 p.m. after receiving a report of a serious crash.

A preliminary investigation found that a 38-year-old Seattle man was driving south on Highway 101 when he veered across the centerline into the northbound lane and slammed head-on into a 1974 Volkswagen Bug with two men inside.

Both the men in the Volkswagen were found dead at the scene. They were later identified as driver Mark Wayne Agalzoff, 52, and passenger Tryg Walker McCord, 20, both of Seaside, Ore. They were wearing seat belts.

Police said the Seattle man who drove across the centerline was driving with a suspended license.

Both he and his passenger, a 32-year-old Seaside, Ore., woman, were seriously injured in the crash. They were taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria then transferred to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center for further treatment.

The highway was closed for five hours after the crash as State Police responded and investigated.
