Ore. police: heroin found in Valentine gift baskets
VALE, Ore. (AP) - Oregon State Police say a traffic stop on Interstate 84 in eastern Oregon yielded a surprise: five pounds of heroin packed into two Valentine's Day teddy bear gift baskets.
Lt. Gregg Hastings said Monday the heroin was valued at $200,000.
The spokesman says two young women from Phoenix, Ariz., were arrested for investigation of unlawful possession and distribution of a controlled substance and booked into the Malheur County Jail.
Hastings says a senior trooper stopped the Honda Accord with Arizona license plates for failing to signal lane changes last Wednesday.

Maybe it was a present for Dinky Hocker.....
Criminals are idiots. If you travel with that much dope, obey all traffic laws, stupids!
Awwww how romantic!
So I must have missed something. Â I fail to signal a turn, I get pulled over and the officer of whatever jurisdiction gets to search my car instead of just giving me a ticket or a warning not to do it again? Â Something is wrong with this picture.
After my exit from the Army I applied and was accepted for training at the academy for training to hopefully begin a career as an Iowa state patrolman. I fulfilled the requirements to become a state patrolman.
Â
It's not exactly a part of the academy doctrine, but on the job we learned different tactics. Part of my on patrol training I learned how to coerce drivers into a search without rights.
Â
Most drivers are intimidated by the badge and car and will submit to a "you wouldn't mind if I look in your trunk would you"?
Â
Most searches on the freeway/interstate are illegal until the state cop decides to make the driver wait for a drug sniffing dog [which can alert to a lot of cooler FOOD items..
Â
I have not or will I ever submit to a illegal search.
Â
Cops really hate the rules.
@outofmadison I thought that they could only search your car if you had a warrant or something like that. Unless the officer asked and they said yes.
Nothing quite says "I Love You" like a syringe full of heroin. HOW romantic!
I wish people in this area would get pulled over more regularly for failing to use turn signals.Â
Maybe they thought it was some type of confection ;-). Wow why do people find it so easy to stoop so low and throw away their lives.
Lucky catch. Looks like failure to signal can really cost you in more ways than one!
On their way to Reed College?Â
