Oregon woman cited for DUI after driving off cliff
YACHATS, Ore. (AP) - Authorities in Lincoln County say an intoxicated woman accused of assaulting her boyfriend and another woman in an Oregon coast pub, then driving off a cliff onto the rocks and surf below has been hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries.
Sheriff's Deputy Jeremy Gautney says the Eugene woman has been cited for DUI and faces several other criminal charges.
The Oregonian reports that deputies responded Saturday afternoon to a disturbance at the Underground Pub in Yachats (YAW-haats). They learned that after the alleged assaults, a woman had left the pub and driven recklessly, nearly hitting several bystanders.
Gautney says she drove across the lawn at Yachats State Park, nearly hit a vehicle with four people inside, then drove off the cliff.
The deputy identified the woman as 41-year-old Maya Thomas.

I absolutely despise people like her that think they have the right to endanger the lives of innocent people because they selfishly CHOOSE to drink too much and drive.I hope she is in pain and I hope the prosecutor also charges her with additional charges in relation to almost hitting the bystanders â something equivalent to assault with a deadly weapon would be fine because that what it essentially is.It is absolutely disgusting how people get away with it over and over in this state.If we had laws that were considerably tougher that would keep these jerks off the streets it would make it safer for everyone.I have known many people who were murdered by drunk drivers â yes, I said murdered because they CHOSE to drink too much and get behind a wheel.Until laws get tougher and people quit making excuses for these jerkwads (i.e. he canât help it, etc.) it will never get better.
glad she was the only one hurt... normally there are a few others who get hurt, and not the drunk who is driving..
