Overturned dump truck creates mess on I-5

EVERETT, Wash. -- Drivers trying to get north into Everett Friday morning had quite the mess to contend with after a dump truck overturned on I-5.
The crash happened just before 11 a.m., blocking two northbound lanes just south of 128th Street SW in South Everett.
Midday traffic was fairly light overall but the backup still stretched more than two miles in the minutes after the crash. Troopers say there was spilled debris around the crash site.
There are no reports of any injuries, and the Washington State Patrol are still looking into what caused the crash.

What a mess! At least no one was injured....that's a good thing :)
I passed the truck right after it happen, from the way the dirt was spilled and the pattern on the ground it looked like the trailer started a dump cycle, when she seen it happen she swerved and caused the trailer to fall over. And yes, i said "she" because it was a woman truck driver. and before the jokes start i know of many women drivers and my mother was a truck driver for 32 years.
@James Hart It certainly looks like that is what happened, though I am not sure how in a normal situation. And you are absolutely right about women truck drives. I had one for several years and I rarely had to adjust her clutch. She was easy on the equipment.
@James Hart This is the most plausible explanation so far. We can count on KOMO and the State Patrol to avoid any follow-up reports, for sure.
If it happened as you speculate, then it was a good save on the driver's part. (Regardless of gender, union affiliation or political preference. ;-) Â )
At least it the driver wasn't hauling something with chemicals. Looks like dirt to me so the rain should wash that away in no time.
Don't let your limited comprehension of driving a big rig truck and trailer and the details of this accident  limit your profound insight and comments.
More crap truck drivers, yet another reason we need to rebuild our rail infrastructure and reduce trucking by 90%.
@NorthwestEconomist LOL ... yeah I guess you could use Volts to deliver all those construction materials to build the train and keep it supplied, just because weed is legal now doesn't mean you need to smoke it all at ounce dude.
@Eugene357  @NorthwestEconomist Sorry smart guy, sounds like you're the one imbibing. You see, several other countries have already rebuilt their freight-rail infrastructures and reduced their commercial trucking by a huge amount. On top of that, they've built separate road/highway systems for their remaining trucking freight which is not only safer for everyone, but helps grow the economy as well. Do you have any idea how much it costs the economy to shut down a major freeway? Do you know how much money traffic really costs? Go re-take econ 101.
@Eugene357 Yeah because that's the typical nuty mentality, love it or leave it right? Can't change things can we? Guess you need to go back in time and tell the writers of the constitution they shouldn't have put in that part about "amendments" huh?
@NorthwestEconomist Sounds like you need to live in "other countries"
biggest problem the truck driver will get more of a ticket that the driver in Tacoma who ran from the cop and hit a house.
Not quite as good as those photos from England where truck drivers with their noses buried in their GPS get literally stuck in roads built for horse drawn carriages 500 years ago in country towns but it still adds to the growing list of truck mishaps lately.
Doh!
These guys always driving too fast for the large size of truck. This is what happens when driving too fast and trailer cannot handle a turn creating a whip like action.
@m There are no sharp turns right there.
@DarkParty @m Probably trying to avoid a distracted driver.
Dump truck took a dump.... and the driver may have as well.... ;-)
These trailers don't just "flip" on their own. I'm betting the driver swerved to avoid someone else or they over-corrected and the back trailer lost control.
Â
Whatever the case - I'm glad nobody got hurt.
NIce driving. So did he fall asleep or was he cut off by another dirver?
"There is no reports of any injuries..."Â We are please, yes for thanking you for the Engrish lesson KOMO.
@bagsofdirt  It should also read "...and the Washington State Patrol is still looking into what caused the crash." Â
Â
Â
@lakeview  @bagsofdirt the first sentence is technically correct. There IS no REPORT of any injuries. the report is the subject, IS is the verb. The second sentence is also technically correct depending on whether "Patrol" is singular or plural.
@Jalharad  @lakeview  @bagsofdirt The article has been corrected to read 'are no reports'. The original had 'is no' and 'reports' which is not correct. A division of the government is always singular, when speaking of people IN the division, then it is plural.
I will take "Driver's who cut off Semis" for $1000 Alex!
@DarkParty I'm certain the truck driver was blameless </sarcasm>
Â
My partner was slammed into by one of these dump trucks who decided he needed to be in the left turn lane my partner was in.
Â
These dump truck drivers seem to be untrained as a whole. I see them speeding, weaving in and out of traffic and driving aggressively. This is not good behavior in a prius much less a giant truck with a trailer.
I'll take the truck driver, driving like he was in a sports car for a true daily double.
At least it wasn't a load of fish guts this time.
Oops. At least no one was hurt.
@katiemcc It's easy to forget sometimes to take your power take off (PTO out of gear after you dump the load especially if the dump site is hard to work with. The PTO is the pump that lifts the box to dump so if it is in gear and you hit the lever it will start going up before you can realize it some times. Glad no one was injured.
