PDC complaint filed against gay marriage opponents

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - A Seattle woman has filed a complaint with the Washington state Public Disclosure Commission against two groups seeking to overturn the state's gay marriage law.
A lawyer for Sandra Turner Fukumoto filed the complaint against Preserve Marriage Washington and the National Organization for Marriage on Wednesday. She alleges both groups have not properly reported their finances.
Frank Schubert, the national political director for NOM and campaign manager for Preserve Washington, says they are in full compliance with the law.
Referendum 74 forces a vote on the law passed earlier this year allowing same-sex marriage in the state. That law is on hold pending a November vote.
Preserve Marriage Washington has raised nearly $382,000 in opposition to the law. Washington United for Marriage, which supports gay marriage, has raised $5.8 million.
Public Disclosure Commission officials will review the complaint to determine whether they want to pursue it further.

Once and for all can someone who is opposed to gay marriage please tell me how it will affect you? Unless you are gay I don't see how it can have any affect.
I don't see why this is news. The public disclosure rules should be enforced for everyone and if someone missed a step in filing paperwork, fix it and pay the applicable fine. Simple. Assuming intent is just silly.
Typical Ultra Right Christian:
Spousal Abuse: God will forgive you.
Murder: Forgiven
Beat you kids: Forgiven
Steal: Forgiven
Sexually assault young boys: DEFINITLY FORGIVEN!!!!
Â
You're Gay?:Â BURN IN HELL!!!!!
There is no end to the insanity of the homosexual community.  Also, have you noticed that this Seattle "news" station over the years has plentiful coverage of all things homosexual?   One estimate states that the US population consists of about 4 million homosexuals or about 1.2 % of the population. What other minority gets as much attention, especially by the media? There is considerable resemblance to children screaming and having a tantrum until the frustrated parent gives in to shut them up. Excpet here the homosexual community has gone to far. Push back if you dare to have a spine!
 @rjjm:Â
And how many in the GLBTQ communtieis throughout the US would willinging identify themselves in light of incidents such as what happenede to matthew Shepard? I would bet if there was a REAL count, not just estimates like yours, but based on actually speaking to them face-toface, the number would be MUCH higher.
@rjjmd what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.Â
 @rjjmd
"the US population consists of about 4 million homosexuals or about 1.2 % of the population"
It would seem intuitive that the smaller the numbers in a discriminated class, the more important it should be to pay attention to and fix the injustice.
@rjjmd you make no sense. Nothing you say in this post is at all applicable to the article I just read. I think you reveal yourself for a hateful zealot with an anti-gay agenda in this post.
Â
"Oooo... where did THEY get $382,000? WE only have $5.8 million!!!"
@JLS1950 And we - the voters - have the RIGHT to know who is financing each side. It's called having an informed electorate.
@OrcasThunder Well, assuming the $5.8 million is all very well documented down to the individual soul...
@JLS1950 And I feel that it probably is - or they wouldn't be making the complaint.
And, at the core of the issue, if you suspect that the other side isn't following the letter of the law, that does not justify taking that course yourself.
The same sex-marriage debate is not about extending basic human rights to all citizens. It is about fundamentally changing the definition of marriage to fit a chosen lifestyle of a small but vocal minority. I have nothing against same-sex couples in the big picture, but I believe their actions in regards to the relationship are sinful, unnatural, and against God. I am not a bigot. I do not uphold ...an ideal blindly. Rather. I stand by my beliefs based on the Christian principals I was taught; marriage is between a man, woman, and God. Same sex couples have the right to be joined in a civil union but that should not be called a âmarriageâ. I believe that redefining marriage would taint the meaning of Christian marriages. I am not the only one feeling this way - look how many signatures were collected in Washington state to put this issue on the ballot. Only 125,000 signatures were needed and over 230,000 signatures were collected and the voters will decide on this issue in November.
You say marriage is between a man, woman and God. Isn't that a menage a' trois?
@Hotrod You are entitled to your religious beliefs. I personally cannot reconcile a belief in Christ with an active attempt at enforcing a "separate but equal" policy of any kind against any fellow human being.Â
@Hotrod Then why don't you let God decide? Tell me how gay marriage affects you? It doesn't, unless you're gay.
@Anarchy Like I said earlier, I am going to be voting based on my christain principles. Everybody has a there rights to their opinion on this issue like Chick-fil-a demonstrated. Nobody going to change my opinion on this matter or how I am going to vote. How many signatures that were collected to put  this on ballat should be a clue as to how most of washington state voters feel in this matter. Washington state voters will decide this issue in november.
@Hotrod The polls tell a different story. All of the poling done so far shows that people in Washington are ready for gay marriage. http://blog.seattlepi.com/seattlepolitics/2012/06/19/same-sex-marriage-in-substantial-lead-poll/ http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/07/us/gay-marriage-opponents-face-tougher-test-in-washington-state.html http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/06/21/us-usa-poll-washingtonstate-idUSBRE85K1D120120621
@Hotrod No, I never figure a bigot will change their mind. I just find it funny when "Christians" spout about it going against God and god this and that and that he makes the final judgement but then they still continue to judge themselves. Doesn't the bible say something about judging? And you never answered my question - how does gay marriage affect you?
@Hotrod We live in secular society where everyone gets equally treatment under the law. You right wing extremist christians saw something in the constitution that wasn't there that said we have to conform to your religion even if we don't believe in it. This isn't ancient Israel, this is the United States. We don't follow the Torah as the law of the land, we follow the constitution which literally states that there is no official religion. Somehow you all lost sight of that. I don't care what the bible says about homosexuality because we aren't a theocracy. If you can't live in a world with people who are different then you, that's on you, not the rest of us. We don't owe you our loyalty to your religion.
@Hotrod To state it very simply, you have been misinformed. It is exactly all about extending basic human rights to all citizens--nothing more. It takes nothing away from the Christian sacrament of marriage, it adds nothing to it. It isn't even about religion. It is about whether the state of Washington will legally give a same sex couple the state regulated marriage license already bestowed upon that 'special' group called heterosexuals.. No one in the state is forcing you to marry someone of the same sex, no one is even forcing you to get a marriage license in order to 'shack up' with a man or woman of your choice. If you feel so strongly about the sanctity of marriage based upon a religious concept, I suggest you spend more time working on those heterosexuals who go against the will of God in their marriages by divorcing, by abusing spouses, by abusing and neglecting their children, by having extramarital affairs. Concentrate on those people, and you will find that having same sex couple allowed to marry will have no effect whatsoever on any heterosexual marriage. Besides, I have to tell you, I do not dwell upon what married straight people do in the privacy of their homes, but I really have to wonder why so many straight people are concerned about what goes on in the homes of same sex couples. Can you explain that to me? (without a lot of detail please, because I'm just a little grossed out by what I have heard about what straight folks do)
@Hotrod Let me ask you this.  What does anyones religion have to do with this debate?  Seems to me that if you want to have a marriage that is blessed off by a church you go get married in a church.  If that is not what you want you can go to a justice of the peace.  Either way you should be free to choose for yourself. Â
Heck if we are going to leave this up to religion, what religion shall we use? Â Christian, Catholic, Muslim, Buddhist, Jewish...the list goes on and on so what one shall it be? Â How about this...I'll choose for you. Â From now on all marriages shall be performed under the laws of the Muslim religion. Â Look, divorce is easy and you get to have multiple wives...what could go wrong. Â
Â
Oh shoot, I totally forgot about the separation between church and state. Â I guess that wont work.
@DeadRabitz My religion and my faith has everything to do with how I vote. I will stand by my beliefs based on the Christian principals I was taught; marriage is between a man, woman, and God and I feel that their actions in regards to the relationship are sinful, unnatural, and against God. I am being told that the church needs to stay out of the state business. Why doesnt the state stay out of the church business. Christians are always under attack. I am glad that this was put on ballot and that I get to vote on it.  I am not the only one feeling this way - look how many signatures were collected in Washington state to put this issue on the ballot. Only 125,000 signatures were needed and over 230,000 signatures were collected and the voters will decide on this issue in November.
And when the voters decide to uphold the law as passed in Olympia, will you honor that vote & accept it? Or will we be forced to keep fighting this every election round when yet another petition to shove YOUR "religious morals & beliefs" down our throats? See, this is NOT a religious issue, and you claiming otherwise will never make it so.
@Hotrod Yet again you fail to understand the scope of this and how your religion or anyones religion does not matter.  You are free to have your faith and worship as YOU please.  Your church is free to include or exclude whomever they want to.  Your church is free to say that they will not recognize gay marriages. Â
Â
However when it comes to the rights of others your religion has no say, nor does mine.
Â
I am appalled that this is up for a vote. Â The rights of others should not be left up to the whims of the masses.
Â
Please try to understand that this is not a religious issue. Â It never was. Â It is solely and issue of civil rights and equal protection under the law.
@DeadRabitz Ultimately we're all accountable to God, like it or not.  What to some is a right, is to others consensual debauchery.  How do we as a society, made up of a rainbow of beliefs,  come together and draw distinction as to what's acceptable.  Most all cultures have memory of Gods judgement of sexual immorality.  We're not talking church-state, but innate moral conscience of when perversion goes to far.
You *claim* that "....most all cultures have memory of God's judgement ....".
Â
Only problem with that is the fact that it would only possibly apply to those who share your particul;ar version of "god". There are MANY faiths in this world, and not all of them are the same as yours.
Â
Who are you to place "your" god above or in place of someone else's chosen God?
Â
Who are yu to call a lifelong loving realtionship a "perversion"?
Â
You should mind your own morals.
@cheekygesturton I find god to be unnecessary and morality to be easily practiced without a deity.
@cheekygesturton I take issue with your assertion that anyone has a memory of God's judgement of sexual immorality. Every culture has its mythology, but that is different from memory. You presume to know the one way of righteous living- as does every believer out there. You are certainly entitled to your beliefs, but you have no right what-so-ever to impose them upon me or anyone else.
@cheekygesturton My apologies, I am not trying to be short sighted, just not long winded.
Â
In reality my point is very simple.  First this is not a religious issue.  It is an issue of civil rights and equal protection under the law.  Religion has nothing to do with that.  Nor should it.  This is exactly why we have the separation of church and state.  This way tim and eric can get married, have that marriage recognized by the government  and churches are free to oppose it.  The government can not force a church to recognize any marriage they don't want to.  Heck we just saw a case where a predominately white church refuse to marry a black couple.
@cheekygesturton "Wars have more to do with the "Father of Lies""
Â
Sure they do...

@OrcasThunder  "For the modern man, the roles are quite reversed. He is the judge: God is in the dock." short article:
http://www.commentarymagazine.com/2012/06/21/god-in-the-dock-religious-faith-doubts/
Wars have more to do with the "Father of Lies", Â and we as a people are so easily deceived. Â Our national and commercial leaders wear Lucifer's apron; ready to do his bidding. Â Did the words coming out of Bush's mouth make you think he gave any thought to God?
 @cheekygesturton
"Ultimately we're all accountable to God, like it or not"
Prove it.
Besides...given all that has been done in His Name, often by His Edict...some feel that He should be accountable to US.
Name ONE Euro/American war in which one side or both have not been convinced that He was on their side, and would give them victory...and no, the Pig War does not count...
Â
@DeadRabitz  @cheekygesturton God is not a religion,  He's a philosophical necessity, and foundation to what is moral.  You make some good points, but you're a bit short sighted.
Â
@cheekygesturton This is not a religious issue. It never was. Let us not forget that judgement is individual in nature. If you don't want a gay marriage don't get one. It's that simple. But don't stand in the way of people's rights. The right of marriage that we are dealing with is not the religious marriage but the state right to marraige. These are two separate things. I'll give you an example. My brother was married by a justice of the the peace. No church, no priest, no rabbi (we are Jewish) no one else but him his wife and the justice of the peace and his best friend. So tell me where was the religion in that. Lastly, since when is it illegal to be gay? Since when is it immoral? Since when did you get to judge? I have an idea. You live your life, live it the best way you can. Let others live theirs and stop worrying about others and worry about yourself.
Money is the core problem. It always has been. Eventually a future generation is going to have to do away with currency to allow civil liberties to flourish. But there are more immediate problems now. the currency is going to crash on its own and my guess is we'll move to digital currency as we have already started which will make corruption even worse. I feel sorry for Generation X. We've left them very few options at this point and they would be smart not to trust anyone over 30. There are some of us older boomer generation that understand the normal cycle of death and rebirth but there's not very many. The latest cycle started at approximately 1912 and will in approximately 2025. The dates aren't meaningful only the forces applied by human nature.
@Blindman Are you referring to the Forth Turning theory? Interesting, but somewhat simplistic and rigid view of the life of nations - and radically skewed towards western civilization.
Well, if the aforementioned comments are applicable to homosexual marriage, Â perhaps we should have a broader view of what defines 'money'. Â After all, Â ...
What people do with their printers in the privacy of their own homes....
How can what makes people happy in any way lessen the value of what's in your wallet?
Please don't allow your bigoted traditional concept of money stigmatize a talented graphic artist.
i'll help you all; the word is counterfeit.
Why is everything on political issues based on how mush $$$$ you raise?
I don't give a rat's rear end about how much money the issue collected, only the issue itself. And by the way my vote isn't for sale.
@Crimsonkid It is important due to the power it gives to get the message out to the electorate.
How many anti-same sex marriage TV spots have been run? I've seen 2 good dignified ones from the Pro side, none from the others.

@Blindman Reluctantly "marked as read"...now I need to give my eyes a shower...
With all the issues in today's world, it seems so stupid to focus on this one....why should anyone give a damn whether men marry men and women marry women? What difference does that make? There are far too many people in the world already so it isn't about procreation...it's about relationships; sharing time together; enjoying the one you are with...what's so bad about that? I JUST don't get it...what's with these people who insist 'their' way is the 'right' way? Get over it people...move on with you own life and leave others alone!
@ytboarder "it seems so stupid to focus on this one"
Yes, it does...but some people do focus on it, and use warped interpretations of laws to enforce their view on others.
So...we need to focus on this stupid issue because stupid people insist on it.
Men with men, women with women, dogs with cats, Fords with Chevy's, Harley's with Honda's, Up is Down, Black is White, forward is backward, and wrong is now right. Did I miss anything?
 @ErichBritton "Did I miss anything?"
Yes - your pills the court said you have to take every morning...
@ErichBritton You missed a few... hate is love and bigotry is acceptance.
You're right I did. Forgot to mention intolerant liberals who preach tolerance as long as it's their brand of tolerance.
@ErichBritton You are right.  We have zero tolerance for intolerance.  Bigotry is wrong and I will call it out every time.
@ErichBritton  It's about individual freedom and equality. When a man chooses a man or a woman chooses a woman, they do so as consenting adult human beings. When a man chooses a child (pedophiles are almost always heterosexual, by the way) there is a power dynamic that is simply wrong. Same with humans on beasts. Equality and freedom assumes adults acting with equal responsibility and equal rights under the law.   Our laws are about freedom and equality. Not about your particular vision of righteousness. That is what our ancestors fled other parts of the world to escape...persecution.
@None Got my history book out and checking, lets see religious persecution, oppressive taxes, tyrannical government, land of opportunity. Nope not seeing heterophobic immigration anywhere. Shall we go ahead and revise that so it's more to your liking?Â
