Part of medical building evacuated after complaint of chemical smell

SEATTLE -- Hazardous materials crews were sent to a medical building in Seattle Tuesday morning after someone complained of getting sick from fumes, but crews sounded the all clear a little while later.
A person reported a chemical smell when they got off the elevator on the third floor of the Northwest Kidney Center at 548 15th Avenue, said Kyle Moore with Seattle Fire.
Fire officials found there were 12 people on the third floor and were working to evacuate, including some who were hooked up to medical equipment.
The person who was complaining of being sick was evaluated by medics and found to be OK. Then HazMat crews worked to determine the source.
"We're using specialized equipment to test the air around the elevator shaft," Moore said. "Trying to determine if there is something in the air that is causing some people to get sick and to find the source of it."
Moore said their analysis found nothing hazardous and patients were being allowed back into the building.
