EVERETT, Wash. -- A pedestrian was killed Tuesday evening after he was hit by a train and knocked into Possession Sound in Everett.

Aaron Snell with the Everett Police Department said a northbound Amtrak train was traveling along the waterfront near Harborview Park at about 7:45 p.m. when it hit the man.

The victim and two others -- an 18-year-old from Everett and a 19-year-old from Yakima -- were walking on the tracks when the train approached. Two of the men were able to get out of the way, but the third was hit.

Snell believes the impact tossed the man into Possession Sound, and a dive team was immediately sent to the park. Divers found the body at about 9 p.m.

Detectives with Everett's traffic investigations unit were called to the scene to investigate the collision. The Amtrak train resumed its northbound travel into Everett at about 9:45 p.m.
