Police: 14-year-old Moses Lake boy shoots parents
MOSES LAKE, Wash. - Moses Lake police say a 14-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly shooting his parents.
Officers responded to the scene, a home in the Peninsula area of Moses Lake, just before 10 p.m. Friday after receiving a 911 call.
Arriving at the residence, they found two adults with gunshot wounds. Detectives also recovered a gun believed to have been used in the shootings.
The Columbian Basin Herald identified the two adults as the boy's parents. Both victims were transported to an out-of-area hospital for treatment.
The names of the victims were not released.
According to school officials, the boy is a student at Moses Lake Christian Academy. A dance scheduled for Saturday has been canceled because of the incident.
School officials released a statement Saturday on their Facebook page:
"We don't have much information to share right now, but we want to acknowledge that one of our students was involved in an off-campus shooting last night. The student was the shooter and he is in police custody.
"There are two victims who are hospitalized. We do not have information on their conditions, and in coordination with the Moses Lake Police Department, we will wait for the MLPD to release specific information on the investigation and the alleged crime.
"Our information will be coordinated with Moses Lake Police to make sure the investigation's integrity is sustained. We are directing the media to contact Moses Lake Police for information specific to the investigation.
"There is no risk to other students or the school.
"We are extremely saddened by this incident and we are praying for the student and the victims. We are a small school and everyone is extremely close, which is a blessing because that is one of the qualities which will help us all get through this tragedy.
"In addition, the MLCA high school dance which was scheduled for tonight has been cancelled in respect for those involved in the shooting incident."
The Moses Lake Police Department is continuing to investigate the shooting.

Did I miss something here? I have read alot of your posts and frankly I'm a little shocked and confused. This article doesn't give motive or enough information to make any kind of judgement. And the fact that someone attends a Christian school says nothing about that individual persons character. Nor does it mean that this school wasn't teaching good values. Just because someone acts contrary to what they should doesn't mean the fault lays with the parents or the school. I've known good parents to have troubled teens. Again, I haven't read anything that has told what has been happening in this family's lives.
Looks like the training he got from his parents has paid off and he used it on them!
@Pollywannacracker May be a sad bit of truth right there...
Just what kind of values are they teaching the kids at this so-called "Christian" academy? Obviously not the commandments about honoring thy father and mother, and the one against murder.
@Whobeke Well, the parents may have missed the verse about "do not frustrate your child", also. Or they may not have understood that when the bible says "the rod is for the backside" it is talking about a pliant green branch of size suitable for grafting, applied to the buttocks of a standing child on the outside of a loose-fitting garment or robe of fairly heavy homespun cloth - NOT about raising welts on bare skin!Â
Just sayin'....
@Whobeke while I agree that murder should not be condoned, sadly, not all parents should be honored...
I am not sure why they would cancel a dance. We had a large school event the day I found out one of my friends had died, all of us being there was very comforting.
I am going to church in a few minutes and praying for Jesus to unshackle this poor boy's soul
He must have had a Quick-pull trigger on his Pop Tart gun he made at school.
 TO EVERYONE WHO HAS POSTED PRIOR TO THIS POSTING:  All of you who have sarcastic, rude, facetious, finger-pointing remarks regarding this incident need to look in the mirror and ask yourself if you truly are a good person and if you have any right to be tearing down the parents and/ or child in this matter. Being as how they got transported out of the area to another hospital for treatment, must be pretty serious of injuries to do so, right? You're sitting there smug as can be blaming the parents for lack of security on their weapons, and others are blaming the child for not living a "christian" life or that their is something wrong with "14 yos" these days. Remember, "JUDGE NOT LESS YOU BE JUDGED YOURSELF..." None of you who are posting comments know the boy or these parents, nor do you know what the situation in the home was with guns, the relationship they had with each other, any firearm safety/ training, or if there was any abuse or violence in the home. To be sitting on the outside looking in and casting judgement, just wait until time for you to be judged.
Like I said, NONE OF YOU KNOW THE FAMILY, let alone what anyone in that home may have been going through or was subjected to. Fortunately, I am able to sit here, next to my fiancee, read all of these comments, our hearts torn, tears in eyes, and have no guilt about thinking how heartless and careless all of you are! My fiancee's cousin happens to be the father that was shot. Did you know that this family was raised to be hunters? Believe it or not, people do raise their children with some of the same attributes we were raised with and implemented in our lives daily before everything started to revolve around technology. This family consists of fishers, hunters, campers, forestry majors, etc... Skills needed should something happen and they had to provide for themselves and their loved ones. Did everyone out there forget that these skills are necessary? Think about it, a 14-year old can have a hunting license, right? Therefore, by having a license, a child would have obviously been through proper training and safety courses, and more than likely raised around guns, knowledgeable of them, and probably have a gun cabinet in the home, just like the majority of you posting probably did as well.
Even being related to the victims, there is no validation for us at this point what the true cause of this was. For all you hypocritical, finger-pointing, your farts smell like roses posters, Karma will catch you! How guilty would you feel if in the end, the story comes out that the child had been getting abused? I HOPE YOU FEEL GUILTIER THAN EVER FOR POINTING FINGERS once you wake up and see the big picture... Just like @Seattlesaid... wonder what the parents did... , @Seahawker, @Darn it!, Quit being sooo gosh darn quick to point the finger at people! Would the two of you like to give everyone a summary of how all of this ends? Probably not, because just like @Suzie-Qsaid, you don't have all the facts! Once you do, then you can sit there and say who's at fault. Until then, why don't you quit being so negative and do what @Content_People said and say a prayer for the boy and the parents. Unfortunately, we (me, my fiancee, and his family) know the status of the parents' condition, and believe all you I addressed in the beginning as those who have posted sarcastic, rude, facetious, finger-pointing remarks hope you Karma will cross your path soon.  Â
OH... and you, @JLS1950, I THINK YOU ARE THE WORST OF THEM ALL ON HERE!!! You just have to make a comment on pretty much everyone's post, don't you? If your stats are actually stats, not just numbers you've thrown out there to make yourself seem somewhat intelligent, CITE YOUR SOURCES!!! I WANT TO SEE THEM! In all reality, all of your made-up figures along with the facetious, finger-pointing, inconsiderate comments you've posted make you look like the biggest idiot out there! I hope Karma gets you the worst! Just because I know the status of the current situation at hand, I'D ALMOST PAY TO SEE IT WHEN IT HAPPENS!!!
THANK YOU  @Suzie-Q, @Content_People, and @Seattle, I thank you and applaud your compassion, consideration for a different aspect, and your prayers. The three of you are are true, genuine people; the kind of person that this place in which we live lacks too many of. Thank you for being REAL, which, last I checked, is how the vast majority of us were brought up.Â
@Msimmons1331@Seattle@Seahawker@Darn it!@Suzie-Q Not sure which "stats" you refer to, unless my references to FBI stats showing that there are twice as many firearm suicides as firearm homicides (including "self defense" and justified police shootings) in this country. That translates pretty much directly into that you are more than twice as likely to be killed by your own firearm (whether at your own hand or that of another) than you are ever to kill someone else in "self defense" or for any other reason whatsoever. The source figures - none made up by me - are all on the FBI/DOJ crime stats website. I have asked another poster here to provide me sources for some more interesting probability statistics, however.
Karma? I renounced Karma and all such Eastern idolatry when I became a born-again trinitarian Pentecostal Christian now more than 34 years ago. I can actually relate to these parents quite well, inasmuch as I have known, respected and been mentored by devout Christians including parents who financed their children through prominent Christian schools. However, as an evangelical Christian, I have also seen most of the failings that Christians fall into when they attempt to apply worldly methods or "traditions" in violation of the clear instruction of scripture - ignoring, for example, "all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword".
If you know this family or this school, well please feel free to convey my best wishes to all as a brother in Christ Jesus. But I will not be silenced in speaking the truth as I am able to perceive it. God Bless you!
@Msimmons1331Â Are you this passionate about every story with horrible posts?
@Msimmons1331 really? I'm guessing you don't read comments on the internet much. Not saying it pejoratively, just saying....
@Msimmons1331Â I notice that this is your first comment on these forums... You won't last long here.
@Tattooed_Angel2
Under that name anyway..
 @Msimmons1331  feel better now that you got it all it out?  jeeze.. F###ing chill out!!
@Msimmons1331Â I know such a long post means you are smart and have a million points to make but yyyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannn
TLDR
@Msimmons1331 @Seattle @Seahawker @Darn it! @Suzie-Q yawn ...
@Msimmons1331
I will say this, you have a set to come on an "OPEN Forum" and say the things you said, however, your rantings do nothing but make you look overly angry, sensitive, and possibly out of touch, this sir is a comment board open to the public, you may not like things people say, but they have a damm right to say them, just as YOU did, from your shouting in caps to your raves about what others say, sounds as if you need some anger management classes, weather you like it or not, everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if you disagree, get off the soap box and be a better person, your anger  on here does not help this family, time for YOU to look in a mirror, and as you like to quote: Remove the rafter from your own eye, so you can see better to remove the straw from your brothers..
@Sandman @Msimmons1331 It appears that Msimmons knows the family as well as shares the ideals and beliefs upon which the school is founded. I think I'll cut her some slack more or less as I would the victim parents and even the child. We must give thanks that no one has (yet) died and pray that on one yet does. And I think we must have compassion for a whole little community that has been absolutely shredded by this event.Â
But it should still be an object lesson for all the rest of us!
@Sandman @Msimmons1331 Only difference is I learned "remove the log from your own eye before removing the spec your neighbors"Â
@SusabelleÂ
Probably getting way off the subject here, but sometimes we need to lighten up in between sad stories, but  all my animals are rescue animals no one wanted, and they are really fine animals.
Please people spay and neuter your animal friends.
@Susabelle
I have both, 2 cats and 2 overly large dogs, and they all get along very well, my big ol Pittbull/Dalmation licks the kitten until he is sopping wet, they even share a bed, it's really cute I think, she's so much bigger than he is, it's quite the sight.
@Sandman @Susabelle LOL, always liked cats, sadly my husband is allergic...
@Susabelle
And we have a winner!!!!!!!! bravo.
And who said cats and dogs don't get along? and quite possibly think alike..
@Sandman @Susabelle JLS1950 often is the winner of my own tirades... Sadly I am not immune to his special brand of irritant.
@Susabelle
As I said, the days not over yet, he might be back, now don't feel that way, a lot of us dodged the rath, we all can't be special....lol...
@Sandman @Susabelle wow, not even an honorable mention, I feel so slighted...
@SusabelleÂ
Make that JLS1950, see how easy it is to get confused with all these names flying around? any excuse will do at this time....lol...
@Susabelle
Heavens NO, I would never do that, I just did a quick recap on the names he mentioned and it wasn't  you he praised for being true and genuine, that honor went to SuzieQ, Content_People and Seattle..and the winner of his tirade goes to JSL1950, sorry, neither one of us even got an honorable mention....(.yet.)...the days not over...lol...
@Sandman @Susabelle LOL, did you insult me? I must have missed that...
@SusabelleÂ
I take that back, me, being as perfect as I'm I mis-read the name he was commenting on, by gosh it wasn't you after all it was SuzieQ, oh these dreaded SSS's, so confusing sometimes, please accept my humble apology, with deepest regrets if anything was said out of line.
@Susabelle
No one was mentioned in a flattering way, it just seemed he thought your comments were better than some others, nothing wrong with that...lol..
@Sandman @Susabelle Actually, in the religious sector, I believe Buhdists corner the market on the polite issue, but that is my personal observation.
@SusabelleÂ
I think I was thinking about Moses, being on that big raft, with all the straw and such....lol...ok, ok...I'm done...peace to all...
@Sandman @Susabelle I didnt see my name mentioned in a flattering way. Of course I didnt see my name mentioned in a negative light either. I myself get pretty worked up about some issues, so I will ask that you call me on my own hypocrisy if you see me slide down that road.
@Susabelle
We are all guilty of that, no one is perfect, it's just simple courtesy, when on a comment board, to express your thoughts about the subject without being rude, name calling  and acting  like a complete lunatic while in a public place, contrary to what many think, Christians don't  corner the market on being polite, anyone can claim to be Christian, in some cases actions speak louder than words, depends on where you are, and who you're talking too.
He seemed to speak highly of your comments, so I guess his anger was not aimed at you....lucky you....he was right about one thing, and I think we all know what that was, or do we??? I do...
@Susabelle
Guess it depends on the one doing the translation, hell, it could be anything, A log, A tree, A splinter, I've heard it said all ways, but no matter what object you want to remove, the meaning remains the same, and you get my drift...right?
Like walk a few miles in someone elses shoes, see how they fit, was that the way you heard that? lol, probably not....
@Sandman yes of course, LOL, but I had never heard it that way before. It does seem wrong to point fingers and scream quite loudly at others while engaging in the same activity you condemn others for. Of course I probably am guilty myself from time to time. While I do not consider myself Christian, I was raised both in the Church and went to a Christian school with bible study part of my coursework. I think Christian values in themselves are actually a good thing, I just wish more Christians actually followed their own tenets.
You sure have mastered finger pointing!
@Msimmons1331Thank you for your Russian Novel. Â
Things are going to be awkward at Thanksgiving.Â
Wonder what the parents done to this child to make him shoot them.
@Seattle Told him "no", usually.
If his parents were armed none of this would have happened.
@skullcrusherÂ
Actually if the parents would have shot first this wouldn't have happenedÂ
@Randall Flagg @skullcrusher Sure. That's the solution to EVERYTHING! ...NOT!
@skullcrusher Oh... yeah! Like they would have just blown their own son away! I'm sure you would not have spared your child!
Like Pete said, it highly possible - even likely - that the firearm belonged to the parent(s). Therefore, if the parent's weren't "armed" none of this might have happened!
@skullcrusher Â
It is highly possible that the weapon that the youth used was hisÂ
parents.
Why did this article shift suddenly to all about the school? The crime happened in the family home, it did not happen at or near school?Â
I get why they would cancel the dance, frivolity right after a horrible tragedy would certainly be in poor taste.
Because A) The police are not releasing much info at this time so there is no "meat" to the article. And B) Schools and shootings make a great combination for "news fodder".
It is indeed a tragedy. Prayers to the parents for full recovery and for the boy to get the help he needs.
