OCEAN SHORES, Wash. -- Some apartment buildings allow tenants to have cats or dogs, but very few are okay with alligators.

A 51-year-old Ocean Shores resident learned that lesson the hard way Wednesday when police seized a 4-foot long gator from an apartment complex in the 600 block of Ocean Shores Boulevard NW.

Police received several tips about the alligator, and when they arrived at the complex with a search warrant Wednesday afternoon they found the reptile relaxing in the back seat of his owner's car.

Police say the resident was trying to move the alligator before police arrived.

Officers turned the gator over to the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. It's unclear what they'll do with him.

A case has been sent to the City Prosecutor's Office for review of possible charges against the resident.
