Police: 82-year-old man found slain was sex offender

MARYSVILLE, Wash. - Police have confirmed that an 82-year-old Marysville man found stabbed to death Friday morning in his travel trailer was a registered sex offender.
Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux of the Marysville police said the man's home in Brookside mobile recreational vehicle park was ransacked and his pickup truck was missing.
The pickup, described as a champagne-colored 2006 Chevrolet Colorado, was later found along an Arlington street. It had been set on fire. The fire was extinguished and the vehicle was impounded.
Police did not immediately identify the victim or discuss how long he had been dead. Lamoureux said late Friday he could not provide information on the sex offenses since that would provide identifying information.
The Snohomish County medical examiner's office said it might release the man's name by Monday.
Officers were dispatched to the man's RV at about 3 a.m. Friday after a grandson stopped by and found the man dead. The grandson told his mother, and she called 911.
Police determined the death was a homicide and launched an investigation. Detectives later asked for the public's help in locating the man's stolen pickup.
But at 10:45 p.m. Friday, crews responding to a report of a fire in the 24300 block of 19th Avenue in Arlington found the pickup in flames. Investigators determined that it had been deliberately set on fire.

Why stop with sex offenders? Lets just dig up the dirt on every murder victim. Next on KOMO news-- 12 year old killed was stealing cookies from mother's cookie jar. No integrity in journalism whatsoever.Â

I wonder if your glass house can withstand the stones you've gathered over your lifetime? Pharisee, hypocrite.
Well thanks dick for blowing him up like that. He did have a family that loved him, he was the best grandfather a kid could want. 30 years ago he had sex with prostitutes that lied about their age and he bought beer for the neighbor girl. There was never any ten year olds. The police wanted to make an example of him and they made up anything they could  to put him away. I don't agree with what he did in the past but it is the past and it had nothing to do with his death
@torsten38 Before I forget and to let you know, once some people see that you are on here, they will ask questions that are none of their business. (like finances, relationships, family, so on and so forth) Don't answer them. It's none of our business on what was,is, or anything. You do not have to prove to any of us that he was a good man with a bad past. You also don't have to prove to any of us that his family loved him. The truth will come out, and I can guarantee you that you will never get an apology from anyone on here.Â
@torsten38 Sorry about your lost, and I'm sorry that you have to read some of the comments on here about him. Most people on here believe that the only way to have a "happy life" is to make everyone who has done wrong in the past look like an evil monster from hell. No one on here will ever get the full story about anything. All you have to do is print what you want, and they will fill in the blanks with crap. There is no respect for anyone that has a past with these guys. They are perfect, and every gang member, child molester, animal abuser, wife beater, drug user, and so on and so on, must die. He is at peace now and is watching over you. I hope you find peace with this. Although, being on here will not help you find peace, just anger. I have respect for you and your family and I will keep you all in my prays.Â
It could have been a plain old home invasion robbery folks with the victim's past having nothing to do with what happened. Lately I've been as concerned with all of the violent home invasion robberies as I have with sex offenders.
According to King 5, the man's body had been left for days and the grandson found it while stopping in to say hi to his grandpa. Once the grandson found his grandpa dead, instead of calling the police, he ran home to tell his mom.
Â
The man served 20 years in prison for having sex with underage girls and had been out just over 8 years.
Â
His estranged daughter (the mother of the grandson)Â thinks this is just a plain robbery/murder, not someone seeking revenge. The old man, Arthur Schroeder, had valuable coins and money hidden all over his trailer.
@Tattooed_Angel I feel bad for his daughter and the vicitms. Whomever killed him should be dealt with as well.
Total speculation here but I wonder what kind of relationship the grandson had with his grandfather. His mother was estranged from him. They both knew that money had been hidden all over the trailer. The thing that makes me most suspicious is that the grandson showed up to say hi at 3am and when he found him dead, he says he ran home to his mom instead of calling the police. Hmmmm...
I would still like to know what the grandson is doing there at 3am "checking" on his grandpa.
@Tattooed_Angel Jump to another conclusion! Here's another one: Maybe he was on his way home from the bar!

KOMO POST OF THE DAY
@dylandawgie Eeeeech!  That was disgusting (in MY opinion).  I was only able to watch about 15 seconds of it.  I cannont believe THAT was a cartoon.  THAT was supposed to be entertainment?  I guess the world has passed me by, I just cannot relate anymore.  Maybe that is a good thing.... sigh.
This is why the registry should be for law enforcement eyes only (If it is constitutional in the first place). Â
@First Last  NO WAY. Our children deserved to be protected. I want to know if a pervert is living in my neighborhood. My children come first not these criminals.
@whatalife1  @First I absolutely believe in the registry.  If you  victimize others you should lose your right to privacy and anonymity.  That's fair.  The thing to remember is that there are just as many UNregistered sex offenders lurking around who just haven't been busted for their crimes.  I think the registry may give some people a false sense of security.  Don't make the mistake of thinking that because you have no registered sex offenders in your neighborhood that there aren't any living your area. Â
@whatalife1  @First The problem is though that YOU decide anyone on the registry is a pervert, without looking in to the background. There are people who get labeled sex offenders who had sex with a 15 year old when they were 18 - hardly a pervert predator. This guy had sex with prostitutes who he thought were legal, and now you decide he's a pervert waiting to pounce on your kids
@TskSeattle  @whatalife1  @First You make a good point,  there is a big difference between an eighteen-year-old having consensual sex with a fifteen-year-old and an adult raping a ten-year-old child, for instance.  However, it  says he stated his preferred age range as 8 to 14 years old, which is pretty disturbing.  It also says he used drugs, booze, and teenage boys to entice girls to his house.  Sorry, that is not the same as picking up a fifteen-year-old prostitute believing she was eighteen.  This was clearly predatory behavior.
@TskSeattle  @whatalife1  @First Good point. In Oregon you can have charges trumped up from urinating in public to sex offender just for peeing outside. Its happened.
wonder if the registry was used to find and target him.
What a bunch of cold-hearted ignorant KOMO readers we have. I am sick of the unforgiving crass remarks here.
Â
Most claim some sort of self-righteouness on here, yet vote to let morality decline by passing laws promoting homosexuality, marijuana, and do little about the evil of our own politicians, or worse yet, say nothing about the rampant sexual objectification of our society by the media.
Â
I don't condone sex offenses by any means, but I don't condone people getting murdered because of them (if that was the case).Â
Â
Â
Â
Â
@commonHuskyfan I understand where you are coming from and agree there seems to be more bottom feeder comments on this site compared to comments on other media outlet sites covering the same story.
Â
Â
@commonHuskyfan since you stated that being gay is immoral, they people that shot and killed my cousin for being gay is outstanding citizens then? me, personally i think that the middle east has it right on how to deal with thieves, murders and rapists. if we started that here instead of giving the criminals all the rights and not the victims you would see a reduction of crimes.
@commonHuskyfan At first, I saw your point that we should not condone murder and other acts of vengeance or violence...then you post this bit "Most claim some sort of self-righteouness on here, yet vote to let morality decline by passing laws promoting homosexuality"  Tell me how does one promote homosexuality and what on earth it has to do with this discussion? Â
Â
I can fully understand if you were talking about drugs and violence but what does being gay have to do with anything?
@DeadRabitz  @commonHuskyfan Are you that ignorant? It is called moral decline, look it up.
@Sandman A better question would be why don't you stand up for the rights of gay people? Why aren't you standing up against those who put the rights of fellow Americans at risk?
@commonHuskyfan  @DeadRabitz Well, premarital sex is immoral according to the Bible, and so is lying, coveting, disrespecting your parents, greed, selfishness, etc.  If you've done none of these things, feel free to cast your stones.  We are ALL immoral.  Even if you believe it's wrong to be gay, they are no more immoral than the rest of us law-abiding citizens who are living our lives not victimizing anybody. Â
@commonHuskyfan  @DeadRabitz "Most claim some sort of self-righteouness on here" You cant even spell it correctly. Look who's calling the kettle black. Step off your high-horse. BTW, not everyone believes that rubbish you call a bible.Â
 @DeadRabitz Â
One question, Why do you  have the need to defend the gay population on here whenever the subject comes up? have you been elected as a mouth piece for them?
@commonHuskyfan  @DeadRabitz By the way, this guy should have been prosecuted in Pierce County, where he lived.  He wasn't.  Because an actual digital audio recording of a man molesting a child is a privacy rights violation.
Â
However, get chatty with anyone in the Pierce County courthouse, and they will tell you: Â They know who he is. Â What he is not: Â A registered sex offender.
@commonHuskyfan  @DeadRabitz My best friend had her daughter's life totally destroyed, and her own life destroyed by a pedophile.  He is straight.  He molested, from ages 7-14, a beautiful, bright young girl.  The guy got off on a technicality:  this technicality:  a flippin' audio recording of him having sex with the kid, while the 7 year old son was asleep on the same bed.  No criminal prosecution, can't even use this in divorce court.
Â
He didn't use drugs and he wasn't gay. He's on the street and has visitation rights to his kid.
Â
GROW UP.
By the way, this guy, he works for King County Public Health.
@Telman@ @commonHuskyfan @DeadRabitz My roots are from PA and NY I never lived in CA. That being said, my argument is not with his faith, but how he views those who he perceives as immoral. I have called him a bigot because he has made multiple bigoted remarks. It's an attack on him personally not on his faith. I argue that since I am Jewish can I reasonably discriminate against those who eat pork? Can I reasonably attribute any and all moral decay to people's absolute disregard for kosher dietary laws? Just because someone is gay does not mean that they are immoral and gay people certainly do not belong lumped in wiht pedophiles.
@commonHuskyfan  @DeadRabitz You are not a bigot. The Left wing just love that name. They feel a moral superior over all you God fearing folks. Don't try and argue with these people. There roots are from California and that says a lot right there.
@commonHuskyfan  Do your homosexual friends know that you think that part of who they are is morally and fundamentally wrong and you will always be judging them as having a lack of morals? A moral is something to do with right and wrong and that extends equally to ALL people in the same manner, no matter sex, sexual orientation, location, age, or race. What this man did was wrong. Whoever killed him also behaved in what you would call an "immoral" way. Passing laws that grant basic equal and human rights to homosexuals is not "promoting" homosexuality, and even if you think it is contributing to the "moral decline" you perceive in society, I fail to see how that related to this man's criminal acts decades ago and his recent murder. You are coming across as a hateful person who discriminates and judges, and, though I hope that is not the case, you should be aware that, respectfully, that is how you sound. I am hopeful that you are not a person who is actively working to pass laws that discriminate against homosexuals. Hopefully this case will come to as much of a satisfactory end as possible given the circumstances.Â
@DeadRabitz  @K. Coleman  @commonHuskyfan Small steps, but in the right direction.
@OrcasThunder  @K. Coleman  @commonHuskyfan Moving past these attitudes is progress.  I think we have made some good strides in the last 50 years.
Very true. Â I cannot argue facts.
@K. Coleman  @DeadRabitz  @commonHuskyfan "If one goes back only 50 years, the things that gay people do was deemed by the majority of society to be deviant"
And yet, in the SAME TIME FRAME, in many areas of this nation the same majority of society also had no problems with excluding a minority of the people in this nation from equal opportunities in employment, in churches, or even in where they could live, The only thing that minority was given more weight in was incarceration and police surveillance.
@commonHuskyfan You are a bigot and you are to blind to see it.  The simple fact that you put gay people into the same group as pedophiles and then insinuate that they are part of some moral decline and are without morals shows that you are in fact a bigot.
Â
I have said nothing about progress. Â But it's good to know that you would view gay rights as moral decline. Â You are a poor excuse for an American. Â
Â
"I have homosexual friends, and don't discriminate against them" Â Yea, you just find them morally wrong and part of our decline...so tell me again how you're not a bigot. Â
@DeadRabitz Ah, I should have known you'd be quick with the bigot comment.
Â
And I see you are a fan of moral relativism.  You should've paid attention in class, because you'd know that argument is full of holes.
Â
I have homosexual friends, and don't discriminate against them - I am not a bigot. But that doesn't mean I believe it is morally right. In fact, I think it is morally wrong, and yes, I stand by the bible.
Â
Nuff said.Â
Â
And I have a little secret - what you call "progress" is nothing more than moral decline. Just because the masses say it is right, does not make it so.
Â
@K. Coleman  @commonHuskyfan Yet as a nation we are not an never were governed by the bible and those morals you speak of are not unchanging, nothing is without change.
@commonHuskyfan Wow such a change in just a few minutes.  you begin as someone who dislikes my lack of compassion for a pedophile and then you turn into a bigot.  You show your absolute ignorance by lumping gay people in with pedophiles. Â
Â
In the end you are nothing more than a bigot. Â
 @DeadRabitz  @commonHuskyfanÂ
Morals are based on a SET and UNCHANGING codes. Â I suppose it would be the reference point from which they get their direction. Â In this country many people derive their moral code from a book called the Bible. Â A book (in some circles) today to be judged politically incorrect.
Â
If one goes back only 50 years, the things that gay people do was deemed by the majority of society to be deviant, (not normal). Â In fact, back then, in the south one could be sent to prison for such practices.
@DeadRabitz Why don't you pick up a bible and read it, or just wait and mock everyone who says that homosexuality is a sin and immoral - wait until you die and then find out.
@commonHuskyfan It's pretty clear that pedophiles and drug users lack morals however what is not clear is how gay people lack morals.  So yes, go on.  how do gay people lack morals?
 @DeadRabitz Homosexuals: lack of morals
Drug users: lack of morals
Pedophiles: lack of morals
need I go on?
@commonHuskyfan Yes, pedophiles are not lack good morals but what does that have to do with gay people?
One less to pollute this world. I wonder if one of his victims paid him a visit? I wouldn't look too hard for the murderer.
@Telman@ "I wouldn't look too hard for the murderer."
Then it's a good thing that you are not involved in the investigation...
