BELLEVUE, Wash. -- A Bellevue dentist accused of sexually assaulting three young women working at his office has been charged with rape and related crimes.
King County prosecutors contend Dr. Kam Derakshani attacked the women at his business, Bellevue Advanced Dental Clinic, and threatened their jobs if they reported him to authorities.
The three young women went to police in March after he pinned one woman against a wall and touched her genitals, a Bellevue Police detective told the court. A subsequent investigation uncovered myriad allegations against Derakshani, who is charged with sexually assaulting all three employees.
Another former employee interviewed by police also claimed Derakshani often found excuses to brush his hands against the breasts of female patients and sent staff out of the room when he was examining them.
According to charging documents, one woman told police she went to Derakshani for the first time in late 2011. Having diagnosed her with several cavities, Derakshani treated her teeth and ultimately hired her to work for him.
Derakshani, a 48-year-old Mercer Island resident, groped the woman on her first day at work, and continued doing so on a daily basis in the weeks that followed, the Bellevue detective said in court documents.
"(She) felt disgusted and didn't know what to do and couldn't' believe this was happening to her," the Bellevue detective told the court.
In March, Derakshani again reached into the woman's clothes and forced her to touch his crotch, the detective continued. That day, she and two other employees went to the Bellevue Police Department, which launched an investigation.
Another woman told police Derakshani began groping her months after she went to work at the office.
Speaking with police, the woman said Derakshani was briefly deterred after she threatened to break his hand if he touched her again. Six months later, the woman continued, Derakshani called her into his office and shoved his hand down her pants.
The woman told police Derakshani reached inside her clothing on several other occasions and sometimes pinned her in place when she tried to leave.
The third employee offered similar allegations against Derakshani, saying he reached into her clothing and threatened her job when she rebuffed his advances, according to charging documents. The woman also told police Derakshani pinned her against a wall on several occasions.
Several former employees told police Derakshani groped them, though some of the alleged assaults occurred several years before. According to charging documents, at least one expressed her thanks that someone finally reported Derakshani.
Writing the court, the detective noted that several of the women were either afraid to lose their jobs at the clinic or concerned Derakshani would ruin their chances of finding other employment. According to charging documents, one woman who left was unable to find other work because of an unfairly poor review given by Derakshani.
Bellevue officers searched Derakshani's office on March 16, the day the three employees went to police with the allegations. Derakshani's medical license was suspended in August.
Derakshani has been charged with third-degree rape and unlawful imprisonment, as well as indecent liberties, Washington's law against unwanted sexual touching. Prosecutors have asked that he be held on $50,000 bail, though he has not been jailed in the case.

BTW, did everyone hear about the New Mexico state representative who has proposed legislation that would make women who get an abortion after being raped or becoming the victim of incest guilty of a felony count of destruction of evidence? Yeah, I'm not a fan either. Here's her contact information. Go wild: Brown, Cathrynn N. 1814 N. Guadalupe Street Carlsbad, NM 88220 cath@cathrynnbrown.com (575) 302-2746
Humm doc, that isn't my first bicipid..
Too bad we can't just give him a root canal without sedation.
He was in a position of authority as an employer and a dentist. Sometimes these people feel they are God, and that the rules don't apply to them. It's disgusting, and I am very glad these women had to guts to go to the police.Â
He must be a sex offender more than phony dentist !
It's like a real life Horrible Bosses in reverse. Â Yikes.
My urologist did a lot more than grope me. Ouch!
Just a goofy idea, but I think he needs to be locked up in a private cell with "Bubba" for a few years so he learns the hard way that what he did was very wrong. I would prefer it if they shot him, but no such luck around here.
What is going on in Bellevue? First a lawyer that rapes massage ladies and now a dentist that gives breast exams and screws his workers! Both of the guys were rich and powerful thus probably feel that they can do whatever they desire...
It would be such a waste if Dr. Kam Derakshani actually committed these crimes. He went through all those years of school to become what he is and then possibly messed it all up because of being horny.
@3rase There is a major difference of being horny and abusing his powers! Most people at work will make funny comments if they trust the each other and even that can get you in trouble today!
@3rase Thinking with the little head so often seems to override thinking with the big head.
The only thing weird is that it has been going on for such a long time. The threat of losing a job at a place where I am assaulted would not really be a threat to me. One incident like the many described would have been sufficient to get out of there. Then again, I am not a woman.
Wow, after all the money, time, and effort to become a dentist plus extra money, time, and effort to open his Bellevue Sexual Assault Dental Clinic....  Well, it's a time to say "Adios!"Â
If I were the boyfriend of one of these girls I would have gone in there and personally pinned him against the wall and then some. Give him a taste of his own medicine. What a POS.
MossMan ~Â Yeah, if I were the bf of one of these girls, I would have removed all his teeth for free, but the old fashioned way though...
All on the same day three women got the courage to tell police. They reported that he would reach into their clothing, why didn't they push his hand away. If they were so concern about their job at first, what change. I am not calling BS but I am saying that there seems to be more questions about the actions of everyone here. I would really like to know how this story ends.Â
@Just my say Perhaps they weren't aware that it was happening to the other girls until the day they went to police. Individually these girls may not have been strong enough to report it out of fear of not being believed, losing a job, and not being able to get a new one. Together they might feel more confident in reporting it.
@Just my say Wow, really? First off, the women probably banded together and decided to report it together. And why didn't they just push his hand away??? Seriously? Things like that happen so fast that most of the time you don't even see it coming. One woman did threaten him "the woman said Derakshani was briefly deterred after she threatened to break his hand if he touched her again" but that only worked for 6 months. And it doesn't sound like it is just these 3 women that have had issues with him.... did you not read in the story all the other former employees that have admitted to being assaulted by this guy?
@Tattooed_Angel  @Just I have had people try to grab me and I have push their hand away and had a very loud tone to saying no. I did read the whole story and I can't picture not one women walking out on her job, or telling her husband. I think something happen but I don't think something happen to every women.Â
@Just my say Various reasons could apply but for starters they might not have a boyfriend or husband. If they did, they might not have told them. Mine would probably destroy the man in a nano second.
@queenofthenight You are right, everyone will react different to these situations, I am still wondering why a boyfriend or husband did not step in. If the past employees are having a hard time finding work, I hope this will help them.Â
@Just my say I think he chose to hire women who he knew could not afford to walk away from the job.
@Just my say  @Tattooed_Angel I've had someone grab me inappropriately once and I froze. I always thought I'd stand up to them and deck em, but nope, I froze. Not everyone is confident to stand up for themselves and some people can't afford to lose their job. If the part about former employees not being able to find work because of him is true, then they have every reason to worry.
@Just my say " why didn't they push his hand away". Are you serious? You've obviously never been sexually assaulted. What a stupid question.Â
