Police: Centralia mother let toddler smoke pot from a bong
CENTRALIA, Wash. -- A Centralia mother was arrested Friday for allegedly allowing her 22-month old child to smoke marijuana out of a bong.
Police served a search warrant on a Delaware Avenue home Friday afternoon and found 40 marijuana plants and a number of guns.
Officers arrested 25-year-old Tyler J, Lee for manufacture of marijuana and three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, according to police.
Twenty-four-year-old Rachelle Braaten was also arrested for manufacture of marijuana. While at the home, officers were told that Braaten gave her 22-month son marijuana. Police say she allowed the toddler to inhale pot from a water pipe.
She's now facing an additional charge of delivery of a controlled substance to a minor.
Police seized the pot and guns and Child Protective Services took custody of the couple's two kids.

Where did this story come from? Is this a police report or did an actual reporter put this together?
there was a video made of the child and  video was emailed to the cops.
@watchtower
Where is that video,where do you get your information?
Shouldnt have drugs around kids anyways wether she smokes it or not.
its just wrong putting a childs life in danger could have a drug deal go bad and the kids are in the middle if it.what is wrong with people these days.

OK, fine, draw what judgments you will, but for the police to publish that she "let her toddler smoke pot from a bong" based soley on what somebody told them and not providing any more compeling evidence of the charge is WRONG.
@Reality Control
I'm glad that I am not the only one who see's the glaring lack of anything other than police accusations in this story,and yet look at these comments,I thought we were supposed to be innocent UNTILL proven guilty.
Toss this chowderhead in a deep pit, close the cage lid and toss the key! Mutts like this should never be allowed to procreate and these kids deserve a far better home.
@kcsparky
And You base your condemnation of these parents based on what? Do you understand that a sensational headline and a police report does Not equal guilt. If you have more details about this story please share.
my cousin ratted her and her boyfriend out to the cops. ZANE SMITH IS A RAT. She never did such thing cause she don't smoke weed!Â
@Chris Mott
More info please
@Chris Mott Are you trying to prove that the only member of your family with any common sense is your cousin? By this exhibition of stupidity, if I was your cousin, your butt wouldn't be worth a plug nickel about now!!
P.S.- By the looks of your grammar, you should have payed a whole lot more attention when you were in school.
@Chris Mott Of course, those forty pot plants are problematic.
And the guns...
@Chris Mott Hey! Look everybody! Another First-Timer telling us the perp was Mother Theresa.
@Getov Mylon @Chris Mott
Really? , you got That from the comment.
Life in our backwater drug cities...
Another responsible gun owner. I'm guessing that she did not donate to the NRA when she illegally obtained those firearms.Â
@lakeview Must have been one of their "customers" and are just annoyed that a new supplier has to be found. I believe the article stated that Lee was arrested for three (3) counts of "unlawful" gun possession. Never was the term "responsible" used anywhere. Have another toke and fold into a corner.
@lakeview We don't want those types.
This should result in permenent loss of custody. If these two !diots can get help later on, maybe, just maybe, they could be granted visitation. However after this, they should never ever be allowed custody of those kids again.
Why can't we have more severe penalties for crimes where a child or children are the victims?
Wow...simply wow, another model parent nominee.Â
I'll go even farther today and call it public slander without more evidence than hearsay. Nobody here seems to understand the implications.
@Reality Control Help your toddler smoke pot = loose custody and go to jail. Pretty simple concept, what's not to understand?
And yet you have to pass a test to drive but not one to have a child.. hmmmm
Perhaps they should make Heroin legal......<sarcasm>
@whitewings2003Â You mean make it legal again.Â
I hope she at least played some Cypress Hill for the little guy and then gave him some Doritos.
Boy, two stories in the news lately about the wonderful parenting skills in Centralia. Sounds like it hasn't changed much since I left it in the 90's.
@thirtysomethingnwnative Nothings changed! Still the most conservative Republican controlled county in the state with one of the highest rates of child abuse, teen pregnacy, drug use, and high school dropouts.
IOh I see it's bush's fault...:)
@Linc239Â No but I bet her lawyer will say that it's THE bush's fault for being in the house.
Wow! Not cool at all. This makes me sick. Hope the child is taken away and put with a family that wont hurt this child ever again. They should also force this mother to never have a child ever again.
@voices88Â Â The term should be children, not child.
The article says-----
" Child Protective Services took custody of the couple's two kids.
@voices88Â sure, send the kid to a "family" that enforces blind obedience to perceived authority and mindless worship of some cloud fairy based on hearsay...
@unobtaniumÂ
Even without the "Hearsay" that you refer to, the couple would probablyÂ
lose custody because of the weapons and grow charges.
the story headline makes it sound like the cops personally witnessed the girl forcing her kid to smoke pot.. only to find out that they 'heard" about it.. in reality, chances are, if the kid lived in that environment, he has contact-because-he-is-in-the-room .. really not much worse than people who smoke tobacco around the kids... not condoning it.. just shaming the sensationalism of it.Â
@everyoneelse Either way, enough reason to remove the children and start a dialogue about placing the children in a better home.
 OohHâ¦..iiItâs  OoHhKAAYâ¦â¦Pot  is  cool.Â
 MoM  wahz  just  helping  her  little  fella  with  his  anxiety.
Itâs naturalâ¦.right?Â
I just want to smack the shhhh out of parents like that.
@Tattooed_Angel2 I'm in. Let the "Smack-A-Thon" begin. Road trip to Cen"trailer"ia!!
@Tattooed_Angel2Â Yes! Because what this mix of guns, drugs and child abuse needs is a little violence thrown in.
I think it's wrong broadcasting serious allegations regardless of the source because it seems to be based merely on hearsay.Â
@Reality Control Doubtful. The media, if anybody, knows quite well what and what not to print. Nice to see you defending trailer trash wanna be growers though. It sounds like you think they're outstanding parents... I beg to differ.
@Reality Control Yes, obviously when police have a search warrant and -ahem- allegedly find 40 pot plants, firearms and a toking toddler, any report of it is hearsay.
@Reality Control  that is what ppl do here.  they make sh** up and call ppl names.  they R not totally 2 blame tho, KOMO puts up some pretty sketchy stories with little info 2 go on.
@Sissy @Reality Control Please use proper English in this forum? You're not texting with 12 year olds in here. Thanks.
No, I do not believe this is related to the legalized pot at all. This mother was probably doing that before they legalized the marijuana in the first place. Some parents just don't know how to take care of their children, but the anti-drug nuts out there that have turned America into a country that incarcerates more people than any other country in the world will use any excuse. Regardless of pot being legal or not, there are always going to be some that do something stupid, it's something that the America seems to excel at lately.
@Bob WagnerÂ
ick
My my my! There sure are some pretty weird people in the news today. Pot was involved? No way! </sarcasm>
@Zoso Voted IN
Some people look forward to motherhood and do the best they can, others like this one, see it entirely differently. What is ironic is sometimes the mothers that feed their child right, send them to the best of schools, and do all  by the book can turn out a child that feels entitled and fails in many areas, and the neglected, maltreated and abused child rises above it all. Go figure. One might wonder if it is all in the spin of the gene wheel.Â
