PORTLAND, Ore. – A drunk driver doing 90 mph crashed his SUV through a home in Southeast Portland on Friday night, police said.
Homeowner Greg Buckland told KATU that he was home during the crash, and the impact threw him against a wall. He said his injuries are minor and he may need surgery on his arm, but he's otherwise OK.
"I feel very blessed and very fortunate tonight," said Buckland. "It easily could have turned out something different. And he should feel fortunate too, because six inches, he'd be facing manslaughter."
It happened at around 11 p.m. at 6020 SE Flavel Drive.
Sgt. Pete Simpson said police arrested the driver, 28-year-old James Kelly Anderson, after he left the scene. He was driving 90 mph on Southeast 60th Avenue when he crashed into the home, Simpson said.
Buckland said he's not sure about the extent of the damage. His insurance company will take a look at his house on Monday. Work crews were at his house all day Saturday boarding things up.
Anderson faces charges of DUII, reckless driving, failure to perform duties of a driver and criminal mischief.

KATU's Lincoln Graves contributed to this story.
When you find out who the insurer is - that refuses to come and assess this damage until Monday - please let us all know, KATU.Â
Â
Incredible. What in the heck are homeowners paying insurance premiums for - to have them ignore you so blatantly and cruelly in your time of need?Â
Â
God bless this man. Who very really could have been killed inside of his own home - by this drunken monster behind the wheel of a 90 mph car.
This guy looks familiar. I wonder if he's been in trouble in Clallam County near Port Angeles or Sequim? I swear I've seen his picture before. In the local paper.
Nobody killed or even seriously injured.
Lots of harm done, of course, but still...
There's a story for the grandkids. I bet his insurance company is going to poop a brick when they see that. Can you "total" a house like you can a car? That place looks like it has a lot of structural damage. And why does the reporter keep looking at his phone? Is he checking his hair? Is he late for something?
Does Oregon have better drunk driving laws than Washington? Â If that was Seattle, he would be free again for another try to kill someone.
Â
Just wait until this low life has the victim's homeowners insurance come after him. They'll file a lien against him for every penny spent repairing that house which will cost far more than the DUI fines.
Humm, wonder what failure to preform to duties of a driver are thought DUII would cover that..
@Windowseat Um what? Are you DUI right now?
 @Windowseat lol... wht choo say?
Well, I hope a few of these charges are felonies. Â They certainly wouldn't be here.
Yikes, what a mess... this numb-nutz needs a good b!+tch slappin', then lock him away.
I said it once and I'll say it again... Â If we catch someone drinking and driving, take away their car. Â Impound it. Â Wait for a trial, if guilty, sell the car to pay the damages and costs of the court and off to jail they go. Â It's hard to crash your car thru a house at 90 MPH when you're riding the bus.
Â
We need absolutely no tolerance for DUI and DWI in this nation. Â You can't respect the ton of metal and the damage it can do, then you can walk, nike or take the bus.I can almost guarantee you this was not this drivers first go around with this.Â
@John Bassett He crashed into a house. It's going to aweful hard to sell that car to make a profit for insurance. I guess you are assuming a previous DUI? I
Don't make Lerm go there, because, he'll go there...
Cars just need to be banned. They kill far more people then any gun every year.
@Common Sense They are regulated, with sensible laws, registration, and careful licensing.
Â
Sensible gun laws are needed, as well.
@Common Sense I think you mean steering wheels, it couldnt possibly have been the car or the driver, thats the answer a steering wheel ban!!
Â
@Common Sense Especially the assault automobiles such as this person was clearly operating- FAR more dangerous.
@Crashbox  @Common Sense Yeah... It was black with shiny wheels. The most dangerous all all automobiles.
@Common Sense Get some common sense and stop regurgitating the NRA partyline at every opportunity. It gets REALLY old. (and besides, NRA has said to no longer use that line, didn't you read the memo?)
Do you actually ever think for yourself? Don't answer that.
@DrugFighter Do you think for yourself or do you let Obama do it for you. Cars do kill more people, including kids, then guns. Fatty foods and poor diet kill more. But you liberals don't really want to address real issues so you focus on your BS gun control stuff.
@Common Sense  @DrugFighter What on earth gives you the idea I'm a "liberal"? My ID should be give-away of quite the opposite....
It's clear you really have not thought about this issue if all you can do is spout off the same old & tired NRA rhetoric that makes no sense. THINK, will you? I know it probably hurts, but it really is better in the long run.Â
He seems to be thinking, "Puny humans and their substandard dwellings!"
He should get a MINIMUM of 10 years for this.
@Tattooed_Angel That sentence range is already reserved for elderly beatings that result in death...
I would need to change my pants if that happened...if I was wearing any.
@Elvis I think the force of the impact would have de-pants me...
All cars need breathalyzers, apparently. The car had everything it needed except a brain. They will get those soon enough. As much as I enjoy driving I know the computers could do it better. Then I could nap.
@Elvis Maybe. I've wondered about that.
This is the way that DUI offences ought to be handled. Show the mug shot of the happy "I didn't do it" winner in the news. Now if only they'd toss the book at DUI's.
I hope the home owner will not need surgery. Â I hope you didn't spend hours getting that part of your house clean to have happen.Â
Wow! He was drunk? No way! Only a sober driver could do that! LOL!
Wow, the bald guy looks extraterrestrial!  Rather, the GOVT engineered the army of these freaks to cause public chaos!
Glad the homeowner is ok, but really sorry his home has been destoyed, what stress.
Â
As for the drunk, another loser who thinks alcohol is a toy.
What? Oregon doesn't have hit and run or leaving the scene charges? Â
@achoo2 It looks like the "failure to perform duties of driver" charge covers that.
loser alert!
