Police: Man threw puppy against tree in drunken rage

ETHEL, Wash. -- Sheriff's deputies have arrested a man who allegedly punched a puppy in the face and then threw it against a tree in a drunken rage early Friday.
Officials said the man's family called deputies about 12:45 a.m. and said he was out of control and hurting the puppy.
When they arrived at the house in the 100 block of Oyler Road, deputies found Jessie Pegram drunk in the street and asking to be arrested.
Pegram was taken into custody and booked into the Lewis County Jail for investigation of first-degree animal cruelty.
Officials said the injured German Shepherd puppy was taken to a veterinarian in Centralia and is expected to make a full recovery.

My mom just adopted this pretty little girl!!
Dogs only have one fault. They don't live long enough. And if you think dogs don't go to heaven you are sadly mistaken. They'll be there long before any of us.
The police should have picked him up and threw him against a tree a few times before arresting him. I really don't like dogs, myself. In fact, I can't stand the disruptively noisy species. But they are animals with emotions and feelings. No creature deserves to be abused...not even the obnoxiously excessively barking dog next door to me.
The puppy will not make a FULL recovery. He will always remember, cower/recoil. People who would hurt animals have no problems hurting people. Despicable.Â
This was top of the bar two days ago. Why do we have to be disgusted again as if this is new?
I'm 6'4" 240. I used to wrestle and now practice MMA. Have for the past 10 years. I would love to throw this guy against a tree. A BIG tree, with knots and broken limbs(both for the tree and this dude)
@Bubba Gunners "I would love to throw this guy against a tree. A BIG tree, with knots and broken limbs(both for the tree and this dude)" Â
Â
Fixed that for you. Â The rest was irrelevant and mere muscle flexing.
Who cares, it's just a stupid dog
@SolntsevskayaBratva OMG! You really are pathetic!
@SolntsevskayaBratva This poster is all over KOMO making ridiculous comments.  Deserves our inattention.
@SolntsevskayaBratvaWho cares about you, your just an idiot?
@SolntsevskayaBratva what a very horrible comment.   Who cares? it's "just" a dog? Is that what you are going to say when he gets drunk again and does that to a human? Who cares it's "just" a person? What he did to this "stupid" dog is very serious. This "stupid" dog could have easily been a human. What's worse is he could have killed this creature and not even remember.
Â
By saying it's "just" a dog, you are putting down all dogs-service animals and pets. Is a drug sniffer border patrol dog "just" a dog? Is the service dog of a war vet that controls 80% his/her PTSD symptoms to the point they can kinda sorta live a normal life again a valuable asset to that person and their family, or is that "just" some dumb dog? Dogs aren't stupid. They deserve far better than many a human treat them.
Â
And to be honest, I've cried more real tears over the deaths of "stupid" dogs than I have many a human. Why? Because all the "stupid" dogs I've ever owned including my current two pittys-have given me the gift of humor, laughter, far more love and kindness than I could ever deserve.
@BlueJedi  @SolntsevskayaBratva This idiot gets his kicks posting stupid comments. I'm sure he has it so he gets notified whenver there's a response to one of his worthless posts. I guess whatever floats your boat. Simple thrills for simple minds.
@BlueJedi  @SolntsevskayaBratva Oh to add one thing. I could just picture in his (or hers) excitement as he re-reads his posts and the following comments as he's quietly chuckling with drool dripping off his chin.
I have a rescue dog who was severely abused. LilyBug is a miniature schnauzer, and the love of my life. I have had her for going on 4 years now. The first year took a great deal of love and patience, as she would cower and pee on the floor every time we spoke to her, or touched her. Now, she is the sweetest, most affectionate dog I have ever known.
Â
Every time I look at her I cannot help but wonder what the hell was done to her, and how much I would love to get my hands on the people who hurt her. She barely had any hair when I got her, and now she is happy, healthy, and the Queen of the house! :) I wish the same for this poor little guy.
Â
It may take some work, but with the right family, and a ton of love and hugs, he will be ok. And the drunk fool who did this? He's dangerous. Anybody that could hurt a helpless animal could surely do something equally as bad, if not worse to a person.
@pixie64 Both of my pittys were abused. Lola, our 14 year old pitty, is blind. She had battery acid poured over her face. Why? Because she refused to get into a fighting ring to fight. We suspect she may have hearing problems and age is catching up to her quickly. But in the year and a half, 2 years we've had her she's done for my husbands severe depression than 15 years of therapy. Though she knew of only one life before us (abuse, popping out liters of puppies and fighting) she is sweet. She's laid there while my troop of 5 and 6 year old girl scouts have poked her everywhere, drove cars over her, colored on her, pulled her ears, petted her (sometimes rough) and even slept on her. What has she done to them? Demanded a biscuit, a belly rub and a squeaky toy be tossed. her days are numbered, we knew that when we adopted her but her final days on Earth are a far cry from the life she knew. Our other Pitty, JoJo wants nothing more than to steal your hamburger. He's 3, had him a few months. His idea of heaven is a belly rub, chasing seagulls and squirrels, going fishing with hubby and has an extreme love of chasing balls. After reading this I gave both of them an extra treat, a hug and a belly rub. What did I get in return? Two dogs who spent the next 10 minutes seeing who could kiss my face raw first.
@BlueJedi From what I've seen, rescues are just the best. It's almost like they are so grateful for the love and affection, instead of pain and fear, that they return it tenfold. Every day when I get home I get 10 minutes of tail wagging, sloppy kisses, and happy little grunty noises. Bless you and your family for loving your 2!
@pixie64 that sounds like my house when I get home. Out running errands and I don't take them with us and/or I come in from work I get a good 10 minutes of tail wagging, body wiggles, happy grunts, wet noses in my face and wet kisses. My human kids look my way, grunt a weak "hi mom" and bury themselves in their video game.
I agree wih Tufa23 - This is no different from Domestic Violence, so I'm all for an animal cruelty register, or some way to track these $$$****.
I personally would love to have a go at him, you know, give him the same treatment. The only difference would be is I wouldn't be drunk, I'd be very sober.
How much do you want to bet he's going to say "I was drunk; I didn't mean it".
Two things come to mind when I read this story: One, I want nothing more than to hug my best friend close.
Two, I want nothing more than to beat the life out of this cruel animal abusing POS. ZERO tolerance for animal cruelty! KOMO Please make note whether this sweet pup is up for adoption and also if there is a fund to donate to for his treatments.Â
I was raised 'out in the county', so to speak, and one of the measures of a man's character was how well he kept, trained, and treated the animals in his care. Were his dogs well trained, were his cows or horses well fed, that sort of thing. I was told, and still believe, that if a man can't take care of a dog, he has no business with a wife or children. Now, the details of those beliefs don't sit well with Seattle's well-known tendancy to get all 'jihad' on a person who is made to look bad in the press with their animals. I was taught, and believe, that if your dog is dying or you cannot afford their medical bills, you put the dog down yourself. When I was growing up, the idea of health insurance for a cat or dog [or any animal that wasn't worth multiple-thousands of dollars]Â was ludicrous on it's face. We knew the difference between 'children' and 'pets'.
Â
This idiot drunk showed a glimmer of be a man when he asked to be arrested. He will go further on that path if he pleads guilty to all charges and takes the consequences without complaint. I hope he does; we have entirely too many people in our society who think acting like a self-absorbed 'Jersey Shore' native is being an adult.
Â
I am also very, very glad that the dog was removed from his care and will make a full recovery.
@svensson excuse me but NJ is not full of self absorbed people. I have been volunteering in rescue for years and now that my home state is under water all you have to do is read the new to see how Jerseyans help one another, which is the antithesis of self absorbed.Â
@Northend If I offended Northend, I apologize. I was implying the MTV TV show. Probably should have been more clear.
I wish he lived in my neighborhood, it would bring me and my friends great joy in beating this doosh bag including kicking all of his teeth out. zero tollerance in animal cruelity.
He was asking to be arrested? Really?
Â
Glad to hear the pup is going to be ok.
Establish an Animal Cruelty Register NOW..
I hate alcoholics, its the same thing every time! We hear these stories WAAAYYY too much these last few years and they seem to get more and more horrific!
Â
I think I've had enough news for tonight...its nothing but toxic ugliness and sickness. Good night!
@My-celiums Your comment is over the top.  You are not a perfect person.  Alcoholism is like a monster inside a person.  This story is sickening, I agree, but it could be the bottom for this man and he may be able to start anew.  Hating him is easy.  Hoping for him takes effort.  Yep, I'm an alcoholic.
@jackieO  @My-celiums Sorry, no sympathy here! I have my VERY valid reasons (and NO, I do NOT have to explain them to you or anyone else for that matter!) for having no love for alcoholics. You will get no where with me. Thanks anyhow!!
Poor doggy :(
Â
Â
People who treat animals in that manner dont belong in society. If he does it once, he will do it again, to animals or another person. what a selfish individual. what a beautiful little dog. It better go to a good home. Please Komo 4 do a follow up on this story, and let us know what happens. this man should never ever ever have an animal ever again.
Jessie please accept your award of "Dick of the Year"......
I would ask to be arrested too if I was him. The safest place between him and I is jail. Give me that puppy I will take care of him.
Oh, there is no excuse for this crap!!! I HATE people like this! I hope somebody teaches him a brutal lesson! B@$Tard!
This guy is nothing but a coward, scum of the earth, I'd also love to see him put in a cell with several angry pitt bulls, like mom33 suggested. He should not be allowed to own any pets or have children.
Â
Â
Ugly, sad individual. He needs a lot of help to figure out why he needs to act this way. Meanwhile I hope the judge forbids him from owning any animal again. No excuses for his behavior; often abusers have been abused. Going forward this individual may have children. I pray if that is the case he has learned from this event or those kids will have a bad life.
WICKED HEART!!!!
Another one of those times i wish the cops got a 5-minute free for all on the guy before taking him to jail
@thatsjarrod Oh, darn! This stupid watch isn't even running. We've let them go for four hours; I thought it seemed to be taking an awfully long time for five minutes to pass...Â
Somebody should do the same to him!
Alcohol. Causing grief, misery, and suffering since like, forever.
And just think...they're trying to legalize marijuana! Don't forget to VOTE.
I have witnessed more alcohol induced violence in my life than I care to think about. However, I have NEVER even heard of anyone smoking a bowl and turning violent. Unless, of course, they couldn't get their Cheetos bag open - then things could get ugly. Your comparison has little, if any, merit.
Any idea if this pup will be up for adoption?
KOMO please do a follow up next week - as in the puppy's healing progress, who owns the dog and is he back with the owners ? how are they related to this Pegram guy and his status in the system.
@justme You can follow his status here: http://jail.lewiscountywa.gov/
I hope this scumbag gets punched in the face by a much bigger person and then thrown against a tree. There should be tougher laws against people who victimize, abuse, neglect, discard and use for their greedy benefits, any and all of God's creatures.Â
I'd like to sign up for that detail!
I know it ain't right, and twisted at the least, but...
Â
Why can't the SPCA sell raffle tickets to 'do unto others' shall we say?
The winner (in this case)Â could get drunk, punch the perp, and slam him against a tree.
Â
Sounds like a win/win to me. It's certainly more horrifying than what he's gonna get.

Washingtonâs RCW 66.44.720 (2b) states: It is unlawful for a person under the age of twenty-one years to be in a public place, or to be in a motor vehicle in a public place, while exhibiting the effects of having consumed liquor. For purposes of this subsection, exhibiting the effects of having consumed liquor means that a person has the odor of liquor on his or her breath and either: (i) Is in possession of or close proximity to a container that has or recently had liquor in it; or (ii) by speech, manner, appearance, behavior, lack of coordination, or otherwise, exhibits that he or she is under the influence of liquor. Â
Â
I hope they use this on him too. Â
Â
And, they did add the alcohol charge too. Â Good.
